  1. Hello Kasei . I read The Call of the Wild many years ago (maybe 35 years ago) and the book is still haunting me; it was so different, written as the dog's perspective. I hope you are successful with your illustrations - I love book illustrations, and quite often I'm drawn (not meant to make a pun there ) to a books by it's illustrations.
  2. You seem to be having a great Bond fest pontalba . If you were in a sort of 'fantasy' Bond film, who would you like to be: a Bond girl, or a Bond baddie?
  3. Wow, a suitcase full of books , what a haul Athena!!
  4. Ah, The Railway Man should be good. Happy reading (after the fall off the wagon )
  5. That would be really good , and it would be very interesting just to be 'a fly on the wall' just to see how it goes.
  6. I have a little book of Tim Burton's poems called The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy: And Other Stories (with his weird drawings), very strange, but that is his style. I like the term 'outside the box'; my way of thinking can be a bit odd sometimes .
  7. Glad that you really enjoyed Hollow City Kylie . Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children is on my wishlist, so I think I'll get that one soonish, so then I can read HC. I'm glad that you reading mojo is in top form too. It's a joy to read when it is, and a hell when it's in the doldrums.
  8. I love The Great Wave too, in fact I love and have a few books of the Japanese prints (by Hokusai and Hiroshige mostly, are my favourites).
  9. Great review Ruth . I have had Bluestockings on my library wishlist for quite a while (there so many books on the list that it's become so long, that it's intimating now )
  10. Great review frankie . Soucy sounds a little Tim Burton-esque, (and I love Tim's films ) especially with a title of The Little Girl Who Was Too Fond of Matches.
  11. These are 2 books I've read about introversion: The Happy Introvert:A Wild and Crazy Guide to Celebrating Your True Self By Elizabeth Wagele The Introvert's Way:Living a Quiet Life in a Noisy World By Sophia Dembling Both were okay, but just not that helpful with hints; things that you have probably worked out yourself. Both books are basically blogs that have been collected as a book, and I thought they were a by expensive for what they were. I browsed and found a recent published Success as an introvert for dummies, then ordered a copy from the library, and that could be more helpful. I quite like the format of the 'for dummies' series , and I find Mindfulness for Dummies is very good for anxiety/stress. I'll let you know how the success as an introvert book is, when I have a look at it . Edit: I've forgotten this ebook , I'm only approx 1/3 through it so far, but it's pretty much the same blogs made to a book. Insight: Reflections on the Gifts of Being an Introvert by Beth L. Buelow Okay, yet again, but not that helpful.
  12. Crapulence!, that is a real hoot! (Plus the following posts too )
  13. Poppyshake Good to hear that The Library of Unrequited Love was good, and I should get it from the library in a couple of weeks. For me The Goldfinch seems to be going on forever, and I'm trying to read it a couple hours each day, and the HUGE plot twist last night was amazing .
  14. Daughter Of Fortune - Isabel Allende is really good read . Who can resist BOGOF offers?!
  15. Managed to find a free e-book of Mrs Bridge by Evan S. Connell On page 556 of The Goldfinch - a very, very gripping story!
  16. Yes, I'm interested on Moonfleet, especially the Vintage cover art (I think it's a very cheeky nod to the Japanese print The Great Wave by Hokusai .
  17. I hope to do some reading this weekend, although I have tried to do this in the recent read-a-thons, then failed miserably . But I have a book already to read - Bill Bryson's Troublesome Words.
  18. I had seen (and loved) the film of Breakfast at Tiffany's so many times, but the book is quite different; more harsh and realistic. Good read though .
  19. Well folks, these posts have been a real eye-opener to me, and to find that so many people in BCF are introverts . It's not that surprising, I suppose, as introverts seem to be naturally drawn to reading books (and love to discuss them), and often prefer to communicate with others through the internet. I have read so many posts that I agree exactly with you!!
  20. I'm really looking forward to read this book now! I was a bit unsure before, but it feels I have just been down memory lane, suddenly in my teens in the early 80s, and the letters are as if I have sent, or received those letters! Very much À la recherche du temps perdu feeling about it; moments that will be never the same. The anticipation and delight of letters dropping through the letter box. Spending ages in Athena shop deciding which paper and envelopes to choose, actually writing then posting letters.....*sigh, in a fuzzy, happy sort of way*
  21. I think that sums up introvert/extrovert differences exactly! I think Quiet was just a bit dry and dull, I hope that when you read it will be helpful at least. I like some books about introversion a bit more light hearted. I'll have to look up which introversion books I've had - but all ones have all been short and pithy, and they seem to be previously as blogs on the Internet. And I love the "introverts unite, individualy!" is so good. I loved reading your experiences as being in intro. and having to deal with extros., and how sometimes they can be so 'negative' about introverts. It makes feel better about my self, knowing that it's not me who come in the situations. The last time it happened to me, someone asked me "Are you anti-social?" , to which I managed to say "Yes!" I'm really glad that started this!Ramble away, it's great to read them!!
  22. Good to hear that you loved Room - I thought it was so good, and it stays in you mind for a long time.
  23. As poppyshake said - Tell it as it is! .
  24. Good haul Athena! I'm very interested in Per Petterson, but not read any of his books yet. I think the Ut Og Stjæle Hester is the Out Stealing Horses that I was most interested in. Hope you enjoy your new book! Edit: I must put The Art of Racing in the Rain in my 'must read next' note,as so many people have adored it. I'm glad you enjoyed it too
