  1. Happy reading with your challenge in 2014 .
  2. Hello nursenblack You have a varied TBR list . Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children is on my wishlist, and Snow Flower etc. was one of the best books I read in 2013. Happy reading!
  3. Hello Stephanie
  4. Georges certainly seemed to be a frantic writer, he wrote everything he possibly could. I've read A Void so far, and that was good, so I'll keep any eye that one.
  5. I managed only 30 minutes reading yesterday, and no reading at all today, so far . *bad kitty!* Maybe tomorrow.....or at least I will have the 'cone of shame' for such a pathetic attempt .
  6. I picked that one because it referred to The Horse Whisperer, though I've only seen the film. I just couldn't resist the offer of 10 for £1 My rational brain was going "Look, just go with the nice 5 that you really want, but don't mad with 10 books", and my irrational brain was going "What?!!Why have 5 when you can have 10 for the same price etc etc. Oh dear me, this is not the way I wanted book purchases in 2014 to go .
  7. Went to the library this afternoon, and they had a book sale . Paperback were 10 books for £1 I chose Shanghai Girls – Lisa See The Many Conditions of Love – Fahara Zama (Never read author before, but toyed the idea previous) The Marriage Bureau of Rich People - Fahara Zama The Bad Girl – Mario Vargas Llosa Lean Mean Thirteen – Jane Evanovich Leaving Mother Lake: A Childhood at the Edge of the World – Namu and Christine Mathieu The Darkening Glass – Paul Doherty Making Shore – Sally Allerton The Light Behind the Window – Lucinda Riley The Brave – Nicholas Evans (The bold were ones that I grabbed at, the other were just to make the 10.)
  8. Yup, he should have a commission .
  9. Ohhh, ohhh.... I'm pretty sure I have read this one, and am sort-of sure the author... But I only read it from library, and I can't remember the title Is it written by Dodie Smith?...
  10. Happy Reading in 2014 . The Poisonwood Bible is a very good, and a memorable read too.
  11. . There were no Ken Grimwood books in the whole of Shropshire libraries' . So I found a reasonably prices paperback of Replay, and if I don't get on with the book, then I can donate it to the community via the library .
  12. Better to read the end of the book in privacy, but it is a wonderful book, and worth the tissues used . It took me some time to read that part of the book; my specs kept steamed up with the tears... . I'm not that easily brought to tears by a book, but that was worth it that time. Hope you enjoy A Monster Calls bobbybear
  13. Collected today from The Hive: A Short History of England by Simon Jenkins (Hardback, reduced from £25 to £5 ), and Replay by Ken Grimwood (Paperback). Plodding through Who Fears Death?, and 300 pages to go *sigh*
  14. Good haul! . More Than This is on my library wishlist now, I have to admit I didn't notice that he had a new novel recently . A Monster Calls was a wonderful book, but needed a quite a few tissues at hand.....
  15. Thanks for letting me about IOT, I circled this one in the RT weeks ago, then forgot about it .Good timing with IOT . I would be lost with the IOT podcasts, one of the best programmes on R4. It should be particularly good, as Angie Hobbs is very interesting and incredibly sharp on IOT, so it be great to listen to. Also on is Frisbee Sheffield, Director of Studies in Philosophy at Christ's College, University of Cambridge - I had to google that name, and it is not a mistake, that name and title are true
  16. Ooh, lovely TBR lists . Happy reading in 2014 Janet!
  17. I hope to join in the read-a-thon this weekend . Not absolutely sure what to read, but it would be good to try short stories, maybe Fyodor Dostoevsky's.
  18. That's a daunting-ish list there! Plato's Symposium (basically Socrates via Plato) was a good read for me, and I have Aeschylus - Oresteia,Sophocles - Oedipus the King and Euripides - Medea in my TBR list. They could be there for quite some time too . Happy Reading!
  19. Good old Tove, she did some great novels (esp. short stories Travelling Light), as well as The Moomins. I think I read a thread by frankie about Augusten Burroughs recently, but they sounded pretty daunting as subject matter for me! . Since then I've read some of his short tales Magical Thinking, and they were a hoot so far.
  20. Hell's Bells, those Lists are amazing . Happy New Year frankie
  21. Happy New Year to you, Julie . The Book of Ebenezer LePage is in my TBR list, and it was in our library reading group book in 2012, but I only managed a quarter of it then. It is a bit of a tome!
  22. Sound advice . Happy reading in 2014
  23. Happy reading with your TBR in 2014
  24. Wow, some wonderful TBR lists you have there! I've recently started a Sherlock Holmes collection (Study in Scarlet & The Sign of Four read so far) Happy reading in 2014
