  1. That was a great review , and I have a gnawing feeling that I have a copy somewhere.....
  2. I’m trying not to buy books this year, so I’ve requested a few new books from the library instead. The trouble is that I don’t seem to be able to control the requesting at the library either! At the end of this afternoon I have: Goldfinch - Donna Tartt Position: 7 in a queue of 28 Love, Nina: despatches from family life - Nina Stibbe Position: 11 in a queue of 16 Shock of the fall - Nathan Filer Position: 3 in a queue of 3 Longbourn - Jo Baker Position: 8 in a queue of 8 Library of unrequited love - Sophie Divy Position: 2 in a queue of 2 Let’s hope that they come a reasonable timing. Chances of that happening are : slim chance or fat chance
  3. Oh dear, frankie.... the realisation that telling someone to "b*****r off" can be a bit unpleasant . Lovely word.... the Lestrade joke is rather good too .

  5. I was brought upon TV Westerns in the 70's (The Virginian, The High Chaparral and Alias Smith and Jones are my fond memories). My Dad loved westerns, and Lonesome Dove was his favourite. Robert Duvall was superb as Gus. He was wonderful!
  6. I've never read any LMcM books, but I watched the series of Lonesome Dove so many times, and I adore it! You have got a great haul there .
  7. Yup, that was great review! . (Oh heck, I might have to just have a browse of these Joe Abercrombie books in the library.)

  13. Certain a case of "loss in translation", indeed. Good for you, Sister! *punch in air, in a feminist power type thing* Those recommended things can be good or dangerous
  14. Thanks Alexi, it definitely brings out different opinions, at least .
  15. Hello Noll, pleased to meet you
  16. Same type happened with me, when I was taking my A Level English Lit., so I am a bit hostile about Charles Dickens novels and W H Auden's poetry . Huh, tutors can be so dismissive to authors, and affect their pupils ideas too....
  17. I think if we ever any other life forms, we humans will destroy them, as well as others on our own planet Ouch!
  18. Managed to restrained myself, and only ebook of Life: A User's Manual by Georges Perec today
