  1. That must be difficult! I've never actually phoned anyone from my pocket, I have been called a few times by my dad, with his phone in his pocket.
  2. My brother texting me he's coming home/here in half an hour.
  3. x This is one of my favourite science-fiction series! x That's nice, I've watched quite a few cartoons and films when I was younger. I stopped at some point though, can't remember when or why exactly. Yesterday evening and the evening before we started to watch Game of Thrones (season one). My boyfriend and my brother hadn't seen it before, so it was quite nice to see it with them. It looks like we'll have to buy season two soon XD! I've just watched some coverage of the Boston explosions. I'm glad not more people died, it could have been even worse. It's really sad .
  4. It's really sad . @various people Good luck with all your dentists' appointments. I always dread going to the dentist, I'm scared of it. I'm quite sensitive in my mouth, well, in general really, so it can be quite painful even if not a lot is happening. I feel for you all!
  5. @Miss Mabel I hope your dog feels better soon @bobblybear My best wishes to Reuben! Hopefully he'll feel better in a few days. @pontabla Wow, 6 cats! That's a lot .

    Book News!

Some of the books I buy are ebooks (Kindle), most of them are paperbacks (and a minor few hardbacks, generally if there is no paperback, ie. with cookbooks). I'm reading quite a bit on my Kindle. My Kindle has a light and I find that in the earlier morning or in the evening, or sometimes during the day when there isn't much light where I am, it's a lot easier to read it rather than trying to read a physical book.
  7. Me too a bit. I don't like it when language has errors, such as the "could care less" and "I could of done" mentioned in this topic. I prefer it when there are no errors in language used. Especially in books this bothers me. I mean, if it's in a forum post people can make mistakes. But a book is checked by a hopefully proper editor and all that (if not self published, at least. If an ebook is self-published and contains a lot of errors I'd abandon it). I try to not make too many errors in my language use, English is my second language but even in typing English I don't make more mistakes than many British or American people, in my opinion. Sometimes when my boyfriend makes a post or something, I correct it. His education was not good (btw, he's British and I'm not), so he can't really help it. I know the way he usually misspells certain words, it doesn't bother me too much with him, it's kind of cute though if I can help it I'll tell him the correct spelling XD. I have an eidetic memory so if language is misused or such it really bothers me. As a child, I often spotted language errors in Dutch children's books. Another thing, when people use both British and American English in one (blog)post/presentation/book/website, it annoys me (ie. sometimes they say 'colour' and sometimes 'color').
  8. x I look forward to hear/read what you think of this one. I'll definately buy it when it's out in paperback.
  9. This sounds interesting! I've put it on the wishlist for now and will download it for free from Amazon, sometime soon (currently on work/uni laptop).
  10. Good luck, pontabla and Miss Mabel!
  11. I hope he won't feel too bad!
  12. I'm currently reading Charles H. Elliott and Laura L. Smith - Overcoming Anxiety for Dummies and Sophie Kinsella - Twenties Girl. Both of them are quite good so far .
  13. Thanks . I've finished reading Allen Elkin - Stress Management for Dummies. It was quite good. I've made a summary for myself, put the important points on a list (after highlighting them with my Kindle). I've done the same thing for Elizabeth Wilson - Stress proof your life (52 brilliant ideas). I'm hoping it will help me a bit, at the very least reading it and making the summary was relaxing. Both books offer different tips. Rating: ***** (5/5) I've started reading Overcoming Anxiety for Dummies by Charles H. Elliott and Laura L. Smith. It's also pretty good so far. I've read a few chapters. The next physical book I might read may be a Sophie Kinsella book. I've also gotten The Crimson Petal and the White out to remind myself to read it in a little while. It's a bit of a daunting read, it's quite a big (and heavy for a paperback) book, I'm not sure if the language will be complicated or not. I haven't read any fantasy for a while. Maybe it's time for some of that too XD (problem is most of the fantasy books I know are series, well, will have to see).
  14. I love Jane Eyre! It's very interesting to read your post . I'm not sure which books I'd put on mine, there are many who've had somewhat of an influence on my life, something to think about.
  15. I also liked The Time Machine by H. G. Wells, might have to get hold of some of his other books too. Watership Down is on my TBR, glad to hear you liked it. The first book of the Cassandra Clare series you mentioned is on my wishlist, glad to hear you like it. It sounds like it might like it.
  16. This book is on my TBR, thanks for the review . I'll read it at some point, but I'm not in a rush.
  17. Welcome here ! I like The X-files, I haven't seen all episodes yet, but I like the series.
  18. My edition has 410 pages (Wordsworth Edition), this excludes the explanatory word list (with it included it's about 440).
  19. Thanks! I'm glad to hear you're doing a bit better .
  20. x Divergent is on my TBR, glad to hear you like it so far!

    Me

    Welcome here !
  22. x I have Tigana, Lord of Emperors and Ysabel. I've heard good things about this author so when I saw some of his books cheaply available I decided to go for it and buy them. I believe Ysabel is a standalone story if I remember correctly, I think the other two are part of series? (GoodReads will know). x x Thanks! Nice review . x x XD, I hope you like it!
  23. @series I always find it helpful if on the book cover itself (or at the inside of the book), it's mentioned what series it's in and which number # it is. @Guy Gavriel Kay I own three books by this author, look forward to hear what you, Karsa, answer to Devi's question. x x Did you like Old Man's War? I own it as an ebook but the Kindle doesn't seem to display PDF properly, the text is too small (I bought it as the Humble Ebook Bundle). I might have to see if Calibre can covert it, or whether it'd be worth it buying a paperback version of it. x x This sounds good. I was planning to read them in publication order, starting with Gridlinked from the Agent Cormac series (I thought that was at least the order they were supposed to be in.. I haven't looked at them in a while! I haven't been in a science-fiction mood much.. also I own much more fantasy, contemporary fiction and chick-lit books compared with science-fiction) @Devi I hope you enjoy your newly bought books !
  24. I've finished reading Joe Haldeman - Marsbound 3: Earthbound. It's the third book in the Marsbound series and I have to say I liked it less than the other two. It's still good once you get into the story, but it took me a bit of time to get there. It could be I left too long between the other two books and this one. Anyway, this book was a bit different than the first two books, and different from most other science-fiction books I have read. That's because it's (only read if you have read the first two books or if you don't care about being spoilt bits of the first two books) In so far as it went, I wouldn't recommend reading it because I found it different. There are similar books out there (which I haven't read). I do however recommend reading the series (especially the first and second books) if you're looking for a nice science-fiction read. Once I got into the story, it was quite good. I was never quite sure what would happen or how things would end up (but with Haldeman, you never quite know). I've read one other book by Joe Haldeman, The Accidental Time Machine. On my TBR list is Peace and War, an omnibus of the Forever War series, with: Forever War, Forever Peace and Forever Free. Other books by Joe Haldeman are on my wishlist. I've also read more in Stress Management for Dummies (which is quite nice so far). My mojo seems to have picked up a bit, I seem to be reading more .
