  1. I took the kids to see Night at the Museum 3, we all thoroughly enjoyed it and it was actually quite emotional, not least due to it being Robin Williams last film.
  2. Hi everyone, life has been crazy this year so I haven't been on here much. I hope you are all well and wish you all a very merry Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year x x x

  3. Finished The List of My Desires. Not a long book, I suspect I should have taken a little more time over it but found it a little stilted and depressing.. good read though.
  4. You're very welcome Diane, It has recipes at the start of some of the chapters too!!
  5. The Sky Is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson, a fantastic read aimed at older young adults.. will be passing on to my daughter. I didn't enjoy the first chapter and nearly gave up on it.. so glad I didn't.
  6. We have a fair few adders here, we are on heathland and they like to bask in the sun on the paths, they blend in quite well and it is hard to see them. Best to familiarise with what one looks like as if there are adders there will normally be grass snakes and maybe others too. Often the dogs that get bitten tread on them by mistake but a friends GSD was bitten on the nose as she tried to play with it! If bitten it will generally swell up quite quickly so you need to get to the Vet asap, preferably carrying the dog as any movement speeds the movement of the venom into the bloodstream. I always carry Piriton (recommended by my Vet) and if bitten the dog will get one of those before I do anything and will give me more time.
  7. Sadly have given up on this book.. I just found it so dull and couldn't warm to his unemotional, slow and unrealistic approach to the end of the world. I have read some of the above comments and can maybe appreciate what he was trying to achieve and that he was hoping that this would be how people might behave. But whilst there would be pockets of stoic people who might behave this way the world would invariably be dominated by people desperately trying to live that bit longer and also plenty taking advantage of the situation too.
  8. Put 'On The Beach' to one side (dull) and picked up 'Jellybird' by Lezanne Clannachan which I thoroughly enjoyed. It's her first novel and I'm looking forward to her new boom next later this year.
  9. Absolute Radio - the top 100 80's songs as voted for by the listeners.. Loving it!
  10. Two episodes of The Crimson Field.

    Dreams

I have very vivid dreams, some fun and some not so.. Once I dreamt I had woken up and there was someone in the room (a non friendly someone), I was terrified but then woke up for real.. that was horrid, I had to put lots of lights on and woke my son up! Lately I've been having what I call reminder dreams, I dream that I have forgotten to do something, I then wake up and it's something I need to do in the next day or so, hence a very sharp and unforgettable reminder to get it done! Both my sons talk in their sleep and I wonder if it has anything to do with what they are dreaming about.. Sometimes my daughter and I sit and listen to youngest son as he can be hilarious!
  12. Reading On The Beach when I have time, which isn't too often. I'm not particularly enjoying it though which I think puts me in a minority.. For me it is very stilted and dull, sorry! And unrealistic too.. Maybe it'll improve soon..
  13. I cooked meatballs for the men and non meatballs for me as I don't eat beef.. They were made with aubergine and were very tasty!
  14. Finally finished The Storyteller by Jodi Piccoult yesterday, was a good read, pretty harrowing but what you would expect with concentration camps being the subject matter. Disappointing ending though, I've only read two of her books now, the other being My Sister's Keeper, and I was disappointed by that ending too.. Not sure I'll try another..
  15. Captain America.. Very good but a bit long..
  16. That's how I read it Claire, so I'm glad Michelle said that! I'm not a fan of ghost stories either but I enjoyed this as I always enjoy atmospheric and descriptive books.
  17. I won one of his books on Goodreads, The Echo, which I believe is a follow up to another book of his, The Explorer, which I haven't yet bought. I may well now based on your review.
  18. Started and gave up quickly on Apple Tree Yard, now starting Jodi Piccoult's The Storyteller.
  19. Finished Sisterland this morning, sad to say it disappointed me. I quite enjoyed the first 75%, then a storyline was introduced that didn't fit with the rest of the book. By the end it was like I had read two different books in one, with no satisfying conclusion for either.
  20. Definitely..maybe it will make sense when I read the rest, will let you know!
  21. 75% of my way through Sisterland and a twist has occurred that I really really didn't like.. I think this may well ruin the book for me..
  22. Halfway through Sisterland, can't see where it's heading but definitely enjoying it.
