  1. It does work, as does taking echinacea at the first sign of a cold, as does honey and Manuka honey to soothe a cough and sore throat, I used to be a cynic but these things are all better than the chemical concoctions that are night nurse and lemsip.
  2. Decisions made in the heat of emotion may be brave, but not wise. Wait until the clamour has died away and in the calm you will see what must be done. (Pam Brown)
  3. A Dog's Purpose by W. Bruce Cameron is only £1.29 on Kindle today, a must read for any animal lover, a very charming book that let's us see things from the other side.
  4. I just bought Twelve Years A Slave on Kindle for 49p..
  5. Another nice quote from my Calm Days calendar ... Wisdom can be possessed by the active but seems to favour those who lead the most simple lives. (Pamela Dugdale)
  6. I'm glad people are enjoying these and finding them helpful.. My parents rarely cried either Noll and it made me very uncomfortable and therefore I hate to cry in front of anyone, even at funerals I will concentrate on anything but the ceremony to try not to. I agree there's nothing wrong with purple, I think it may be referring to the fact that so many people stick to wearing dull colours as they are 'safe'. I'm a navy blue girl! I remember reading about your tattoo before, I think it's a great quote and choice for a tattoo.
  7. Dr Who was an integral part of TV when I was growing up here, but I've only watched it sporadically in recent years. I enjoyed the Christopher Ecclestone series and loved the episodes with David Tennant but I couldn't enjoy the Matt Smith ones at all..
  8. Very true, though maybe that would be the ideal time to read all the books I couldn't finish previously.. No he is just a wuss, maybe it's a boy thing Steve..... Hee hee, go Michelle! Hee hee again! Me too Gaia! Thank you.
  9. I've not heard of that Diane chamberlain title, I hope you enjoy it and I'll look out for your review
  10. I definitely will now! I'm thinking I really need to get around to reading more or the books I have been given by friends.
  11. . A friend have me Paper Towns for Christmas, I'm a little reluctant to read it as I gave up very quickly on Looking for Alaska..
  12. Happiness consists not in having much, but i being content with little.

  13. Thanks Noll, think maybe it's best if I read it first. I was planning on reading it anyway. I'm sure my near 15 year old son could cope with the issues raised but he might not get on so well with the creepiness.. He still refuses to watch Dr Who.. Because it's rubbish he says.. Yeah right!
  14. I went into Waterstones twice this week to get Hollow City but they didn't have it so have had to order it from Amazon, they've said 1-3 weeks but I'm hoping it will be quicker than that.. I'm hoping it will be as good as Miss P's too but am so often disappointed by sequels. Nora Roberts is my go to author if I want a stress free read that requires little or no thinking! There is no mention of a dog in the synopsis but I live in hope! Yes, it's exactly that Laura.. I think I read in my sleep too though, I often fall asleep reading, wake up enough to put a bookmark in and turn off the light..then wake up, open the book and have no recollection of the last couple of pages! I think it may not be here for a week or two so I must try and finish The Secret History first.. Would you say it would be suitable for teens? (Aged nearly 15 and 13). I'm pretty relaxed about what they read but wouldn't want graphic sex scenes!
  15. The Host.. again!
  16. Three more books to add to my TBR shelf and more on the way. Earthly Joys/Virgin Earth - Philippa Gregory (probably not something I would have bought myself but I'll give it a go at some point.). What Alice Forgot - Liane Moriarty (I haven't read The Husbands Secret yet but I liked the synopsis for this one) Catching Snowflakes - Nora Roberts On their way.. Hollow City - Ransom Riggs Unwind - Neal Shusterman (recommended by Noll) I'm about 40% of the way through The Secret History and I think I'm enjoying it, I just wish I had more time to read as I'm sure I could enjoy it much more if I could read more at a time.
  17. Ok, so the books were written by THE Elizabeth Taylor? It did cross my mind but then I figured it wasn't a particularly rare name..
  18. We're being taught by a woman who is a member of Bucks SAR, she does is for 2 reasons, to raise money for her group (we each pay £10 for 3 hours training) and to see if there is anyone with potential and who would like to volunteer. At present I wouldn't be able to volunteer as I have to be around for the children but maybe if Jojo takes to it well we could apply to join a SAR team in a couple of years. I went on the Surrey SAR website and they put a lot of emphasis on fitness and navigational skills. Would you fancy trying it with Reuben BB? I'm sure I could ask if there is anyone doing it in your area..
  19. Fish n Chips from the chippy and a glass of Pinot Grigio.
  20. I did find Dark Matter scary Claire, very dark and foreboding, but I am a wimp for things like that and Steve was working away when I read it! very good though.
  21. I couldn't find it in town so have ordered it from Amazon, hopefully my kids might like it too. I have this and two of her others on my TBR shelf, a gift from a friend, I was planning to read at least one of them this month but I'll have to see how it goes as I don't have much reading time at present and The Secret History is taking me a while to get through.
  22. Unwind looks interesting Noll. I may see if Waterstones have it today..
  23. I'm in Lightwater and whilst soggy we've had no real flooding, partly due to recent flood defence work on the ponds in Lightwater Country Park. We're very lucky in that we are surrounded by heathland which drains well but still the Country Park has many rivulets running through it (which the dogs love) and I don't think I've has a Muckboot free walk since November!
  24. Welcome Prestongal.
  25. Well, there's a fair amount of flooding too..
