I read it a while ago now and have to say I was rather disappointed after thoroughly enjoying her previous two books, The House at Riverton and The Forgotten Garden, it was a big book compared to them and I felt it could easily have been a third shorter without losing any of the story. I have bought her latest book, The Secret Keeper though as the reviews suggest it may be a return to her original form.

So sorry to hear about your Dad KM, I'm sure you have done the best you can. {{hugs}} I have Mrs Palfrey and The Light Years on my TBR shelf too so hopefully we'll both get to read them sometime soon.

I'm glad you received Replay safely Kay, and I hope you and Alan both like it. It was a very free flowing, fairly quick read, and I must admit when I reviewed my 2013 books read a couple of days ago I upped it from a 4/5 to a 5/5. The story has really stayed with me and I can still recall a lot of what happened which for me at least is unusual, and I am still thinking about what it would be like to be able to do what this character could do, and how would I handle it. Steve will be so happy if you like it too!

I have finished my first book of 2014, The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd. Another fantastic book by her, a definite 5/5. I'll hopefully start The Secret History for the book circle later today.

Down to the last 50 pages of The Invention of Wings, it's been a great read so hope it ends well!

Not bad out of all those books that only four were 1/5... Lots of good ones there and a few I really likes too. I should really do this on my 2013 blog.

I never had more than 2 or 3 books waiting to be read before I found this forum!!

Not a lot! Rather boring now.. much as I didn't like seeing when I lagged behind my target before, at least there was something to see, bit boring now!

I'm tempted to do the challenge again so I can see what has changed?!

We watched Man of Steel yesterday, I really enjoyed it but it really bore no resemblance at all to the original films and a lot had changed. I wasn't sure if it was supposed to be a prequel or a retelling.

Tell The Wolves I'm Home was a wonderful read, very cleverly written I thought and found it sad yet uplifting in parts. Miss Peregrine and The Night Circus were excellent too. I'm going to make time to check out the others on your list very soon.

Sounds fantastic. I suppose she thinks she is a normal person but us readers know different! Are you planning on writing something? Will be lovely to have you back, you've recommended some of the more unusual books I have enjoyed.

I've only read Shanghai Girls, I remember thinking it was ok but it did drag a little. I have it a 3/5 but of course that is only my opinion.

Long time no see NB! I'm reading The Invention of Wings now and very much enjoying it. I've not read The Mermaid Chair but I did like The Secret Life of Bees, both stories about the poor treatment of black people in the US. The Amy Greene books look interesting, I've added them to my wish list - you always did find interesting books.

It is Julie, it involves the slave trade in the early 1800's, about two main characters, a young white girl from a 'good' family who is given a slave girl on her 9th birthday and how their lives change and intertwine over the years.
