All you need + tons of other stuff!

  2. Happy Christmas to all my BCF friends!
  3. 40. If we threw our problems into a pile and saw everyone else's, we'd grab ours back.

Oh, I may wish to swap one or two. :)

Yes, picking and choosing our problems to suits our strengths may be the way forward. :)

I'm going for a dog walk in a bit. Will be a miracle to not be washed or blown away.. Will accept that as my miracle today! :)

Everything distils into this when you really think about it.

  6. Five Neil Gaiman books on the Kindle Daily Deal today, £1.49 each.
  7. Very impressive Gaia! Wishing you a highly productive reading year in 2014.
  8. I personally preferred it to The Help, I was absorbed much more into TSLoB than I was with The Help and it had many more stand out moments in it too. (And a nicer cover! ) A Monster Calls was a fab read, nice and quick but highly emotive. A Discovery of Witches was brilliant, it's a big book but I read it in just a few days it was so good. Sadly the second in the series, Shadow of Night didn't grab me as much, I'm hoping the third book will recapture me!
  9. Wow, KM, you are very organised this year! Good luck with your reading and the challenge in particular. I have American Gods and The Angel's Game on my TBR shelf, I will get to the latter in the New Year but the former isn't grabbing me and has been demoted to the TBR drawer for now.. I have Alone In Berlin too but that has been borrowed by a friend who is not a fast reader so I may not see it for a while! Of course Human Traces is a must read (maybe I should get a tattoo with that on?) The Road, The Secret Life Of Bees and Sister are brilliant reads to in my lowly opinion. I will keep a close eye on your book blog in the New Year as you have a lot of books on your lists I don't recognise but could well be gems of the future! Happy Christmas!
  10. Just about to watch The Ladybird Books Story on BBC4.
  11. I thought the Kite Runner was an excellent book, nearly as good as A Thousand Splendid Suns by the same author. I've not seen the film as yet, I really should look out for it on Sky.
  12. Jojo is 6.5 months now, very active but great fun. Unfortunately she is a very early riser so I have to have earlier nights so less time to read! Wolf Within is by and about Shaun Ellis, a guy who has dedicated much of his life to caring for wolves.
  13. Hi Karen, I haven't reached my book target this year either, also due to life, or rather puppy getting in the way! I'm not planning on setting myself a target for 2014, whilst targets are fun when you are keeping up with them they are less so when you're not. I'm hoping to just read as much as I can, and relaxing when I do so, not worrying about how many pages I have read that day. I'm glad t hear though that you have enjoyed what you've read, and hopefully life getting in the way for you was all good too. I have a few favourites from this year, including The Language of Flowers, Tell the Wolves I'm Home and Wolf Within (a biography).
  14. A couple of Diane Chamberlain's for 99p/£1.09 again today.. Necessary Lies and The Courage Tree.

Especially at this time of year, there are so many children who have nothing and who are suffering..

  16. Deck the Halls and the second half of Avengers Assemble, I love it!
  17. 36. Growing old beats the alternative .. dying young.

  18. Written at the time?
  19. World War One or Two?
  20. 35. Don't audit life. Show up and make the best of it now.

  21. You're welcome Laura, I hope you have a good one too.
  22. I have The Shadow Wife on my TBR shelf, hopefully I'll around to it soon, plus I have Brass Ring, I tried this a few months ago but couldn't get into it, it was around the time we got the puppy though so I will give it another go. I have Kiss River and Keeper of the Light coming soon from Amazon as they were a steal at just £1 each! Hopefully I will get to read them all in 2014!
  23. I finished A Christmas Carol, it was ok but I'm not sure if it was because I have seen the films (mainly the Muppets version which didn't help! ) or because I am not a fan of the Classics that I wasn't so keen. I'm glad I read it though as so many others have loved it and I would have always wondered if I would. After much deliberation I have now started Silver Bay by Jojo Moyes. I can't believe that I stood in front of my TBR shelf for so long and nothing was grabbing me.
  24. I swear my hot Manuka honey and lemon when I have a cough Chrissy, that and some echinacea to ward off the cold. I am delinking Detox Tea as have had migraine and an iffy tum due to the tablets so trying to have a cleansing few days!
  25. 34. Your job is to love your children, not choose who they should love.

You just have to hope that you have given them the skills and confidence to choose good people.

As a person whose kids have chosen many years ago, you also have to lean on the Good Qualities of their spouses, and don't focus as much on the Bad. We all have both, don't we ?
