I started reading 'Matched' by Ally Condie this afternoon and I am re~reading 'True Grit' by Charles Portis :)

True Grit is such a great book. It really puts a different perspective on the John Wayne film. I don't fancy watching the new film version at all.

>Xiaolu Guo: A Concise Chinese-English Dictionary for Lovers<

Kylie this seems an odd choice of phrasebook! Or is there something you are not telling us ?

>Lloyd Jones: Mister Pip <

I wondered is this some sort of a sequel to Great Expectations ?

Kylie that's quite a collection there how did you manage to carry them all home!

I am still reading Wally Lamb - I know this Much is True - it is 900 pages though but I am hoping to get it finished today so I can start on Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman

mocking.gif Perhaps I should have pointed out that the Guo book is a work of fiction. It was shortlisted for the Orange Broadband prize in 2007.

I can't remember exactly what Mister Pip is about, but I think it is about some students in a foreign country who are studying Great Expectations.

Luckily I didn't have far to carry them to my car, but my arms were quite sore after that short distance! Several of the books are particularly heavy.

How are you enjoying the Wally Lamb book?

Do you take a small pack horse with you when you go book shopping?

Yes, it does sound interesting. :) I recall reading the story behind the title of Catch-22 before, but it'll be interesting to read about other books.

I finished The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas - John Boyne and have started Wicked - Gregory Maguire.

I loved both of these. Did you cry at the end of TBitSP?

Do you take a small pack horse with you when you go book shopping?

No. I had to leave my pack horse at home this time because there wasn't enough room for him to roam the aisles with me.

I'm going to Canberra for the big book fair next weekend. This time I'll be taking trolleys (yes, multiple trolleys; but I'll just load one at a time).

I am pushing on with Vanity Fair tonight, which I begun months ago! I will get to the end!!!

You go girl! It will feel like such an achievement once you finish it. smile.gif

I've had no book activity whatsoever today. I might go and shelve my new books shortly.

I have started to read Dreamcatcher and as a result I have also introduced myself to Stephen King. Always had a bit of a block with this author - but 50 pages in and I am wondering why I waited so long. Hes got me already !

I received the paperback Dead in the Family by Charlaine Harris in the mail today. :)

Other book activity: I have been busily updating my various lists to take to the book fair this weekend. Now I just need to work out my spreadsheet app on my iPad and then I will be very high-tech at the fair. cool.gif

My Dad also built a sort of gate for my library entrance. It's about half the height of the doorway so I can see into the library but Jasper can't jump over it (not yet, anyway). It looks very nice. :)

I've read only a few more pages of Invisible Cities, but it's an excellent read so far.

Sin Undone by Larissa Ione

The Witches Of Eastwick by John Updike
