^ Look, Raven, look! Charm is tempting me with more books! What hope do I have? huh.gif

Somewhere on the South Coast in the UK, a head has popped up like that of a meerkat.

He looks left and right and thinks aloud to himself "Somewhere, somehow Kylie is finding a way to buy MORE books" He chuckles a little, and settles back to his work.

haha.gif Excellent visual there, Chrissy, and not least because I love meerkats! Will Raven be chuckling though? I'm afraid he might be shaking his little meerkat fist at me...can meerkats make a fist, I wonder? I suppose I shall find out in 6 months' time. I love meerkats so much that I'm going south to a zoo where you can pay to go in with the meerkats and spend some time with them climbing all over you. giggle.gif I will be sure to inspect their little paws.

Right I am not going to review each of the following individually but really say whether I enjoyed them or not, I also haven't included the few I have given up on for being really really terrible, luckily they were free so I am not that worried about it.

Sorry for the poor reviewing :D lets hope this cut and paste works as I am on my lunch break and not got my spreadsheet from home here.

139 Trophy Hunt C J Box second one of his I have read, I am quite likeing the concept of crime from the point of view of a game warden and the setting in rural Wyoming is good. Will def download more as they are cheap on the kindle

140 Kiss Me Deadly Michelle Hauf Terrible, a real Mills and Boon masquerading as a Paranomal book really not worth it except it was free

141 Redeemer Heather Killough-Walden Quite like some of her Big Bad Wolf series this is not one of them however its an interseting concept of vampires possibly Angels

142 Katies Hellion Lizzy Ford Started slow but actually in the end I quite liked it, the heroine was normal she drank she swore and didn't fall at the feet of the hero at any time, its part of a trilogy so I wil probably get the next one when its out.

143 The Beast in Me Emma Petersen Terrible but free

144 Hunters Choice Shiloh Walker Terrible but free

145 The Day is Dark Yrsa Sigurdardottir Love this Icelandic crime series wasn't expecting it on the kindle but I must have prebought it. This one was set in Greenland and inspired me to realise I know nothing about Greenland beyond its name and therefore do a little research.

146 Spiders Bite Jennifer Estep Really enjoyed this one, not what I was expecting a heroine who isn't afraid to kill. Part of a series will probably read more of them.

147 Twist Of Fate Jaybe Anne Krentz Love this author part of my guilty pleasures romance sigh!!!

148I n Too Deep Jaybe Anne Krentz See above

149 Giving Chase Lauren Dane A bit to run of the mill romance for me these days probably would have loved it a few years ago but ow its too cliché

150 Midnight Awakening Lara Adrian I haven't read any of Lara Adrian for ages having read the first two books a couple of years ago this is the 3rd book and I enjoyed it still she is trying to be J R Ward and not succeeeding although recent comments on Amazon do suggest that later in the series she is coming more into her own

151 Frozen Out Quentin Bates Another Icelandic thriller and again I really enjoyed it

152 Veil of Midnight Lara Adrian For some reason I can't bring myself to read the 4th in the series so I sjipped right onto the 5th I may go back and read it. Again its still a bit run of the mill vampire etc but worth sticking with the series when I am in need of something to read I think.

I know I have read a couplf of book books as well recently but as they are at home I am not entirely sure what their titles are one by Amanda Quick and another by Sherilyn Kenyon...to be continued :D

Yeaah these are definitely more of the thriller variety I have quite enjoyed them though, they are part of a series about Joe Pickett a park ranger I haven't read the first of these rather I seem to have started in the middle saying that they are all stories on their own. One of the most interesting things is the landscape so different from the Uk and the wierd political shenannigans between Federal and local law. Not something I am yet au fait with but intersting nonetheless, I guess I am used to a law being the law for the whole country not just a state (which admittedly is probably twice the size of the England :D )

Ha ha Weave cheers but they are terrible reviews mostly one liners because I can't keep up with my own reading.

You get your point across, so they are great. :)

Finally I may have written more than a one liner review for the following :D

153 The Skeleton in the Closet - M C Beaton Chesil inspired me to get this one and she was right (read her review it will be better than anything I can do ) it was a lighthearted read with a bit of a mystery thrown in, I love the quirkiness of it and will defnintely try the Agatha Raisin books now.

154 The Secrets of Pain (Merrily Watkins ) Phil RickmanI love this series and have been following since the first book a mystery wrapped in a spiritual conundrum, Merrily is a very human character with human frailties and although she is a vicar its not overblown with christianity rather its spirituality and good. You really have to read the rest of the series to get these books but Phil Rickman is a talented writer and his stories always have an element of mystery and ghostliness. The only flaw for me in the whole series is the daughter Jane she is almost too teenager to be real. to cool for school into all the extremes of rebellion and gets herself into stupid situations maybe I am flawed by looking at this from the point of view of an adult but I don't remember being that bad as a teenager maybe I was the exception though. Even the descritions of archaeology don't make me cringe all that much.

155 Along Came a Demon Linda Welch This was ok, it could have been better, the main character can see ghosts of people who have died violently she can also see people who are different who appear to be maskerading as demons. As I said this was an ok book it didn't grab me as much as it peobably should have done but the ending was too pat and predictable not sure I will read any more of the series.

156 Moon Child J R Rain This is the 4th book in the Vampire for hire series and I have really liked them, the mian character is real apart from the vampire thing obviously but rather than it being a glam thing its something she suffers from, she was a normal mom in a happy marriage and her violent turning has ruined her life. Not going to give too much away as you all 4 books are connected and need to be read in order.

157 Promise Kristie Cook This is the first in a series called Soul Savers a YA series about well really Angels and Demons or at least there human offspring but related to the greek gods (authors really love those Greek gods….its never Roman ones go figure ) again like a lot of mediocre YA books this is ok, not brilliant but not terrible it was cheap otherwise I probably wouldn't have bothered when I say YA I mean older YA as there are scenes of a sexual nature (feel like a television presenter) obviously with the demons and angels synopsis its about the battle of good and evil.

158 The One you Love Paul Pilkington A freebie from Amazon and ok, (free makes it better) the story of a young woman on the verge of getting married arrives home to her flat to find her fiance's brother badly injured and her fiance missing. With the help of her best friend and family she tries to find the truth about what happened. Now I got the twist about half way through and in fact solved the murder at the same time so nothing to special about this book, but an ok lunchtime read.

159 Web of Lies Jennifer Estep This is the second in the Spider Assasin books and I love them, the character is great she is a woman who takes no prisoners she doesn't need a man but if she does she gets one, for adults as again the scene thing but well worth it. It seems a shame to me that for some reason the 3rd book is twice the price of 1 and 2 and the 4th back to the normal price I can't figure out why but I will definitely get it.

160 First Frost Jennifer Estep This is by the same author as above but the first in a YA series and its really good I will get the rest of the series based on this at ome point. The characters aren't soppy but fighting which I prefer.

161 Demon Girl Penelope Fletcher Odd YA book obviously set in a sort of post apocalyptic land where humans are in enclaves surrounded by so called demons, my problem is the story didn't grab me enough to keep up with the compexity of characters the author kept throwing at me. Not sure I will go any further in the series after this there are better books out there.

right its that time o update my kist again prepare for some one liners for my reviews :D

162 - Silent Blade - Ilona Andrews not a great book it had a lot of potential from the synopsis but in the end it was more of a romance of a traditional variety a lot crammed into a small book which could have done with being a bit more. Cheap though!

163 - Ecstasy in Darkness - Gena Showalter

164 - Savour Me Slowly - Gena Showalter I have become slightly addicted to these they are adult paranormal/urban fantasies so of course there are scenes of an mature nature :D . This is part of her Alien Huntress series set in a world where aliens have landed or been discovered on earth. If you know and like Kresley Cole or Sherilyn Kenyon you might like these.

165 - Prophecy Child of Light - F E Heaton thanks to Charm these appeared on my list (dam you) I did enjoy it and this is the first of a trilogy so its setting the scene for the next two books which I hope will move at a better pace, I will read them though as its a good story.

166 - Fire and Ice - Dana Stabenow This is the second book I have read of hers although this time featuring Liam Cambell and Alaskan Ranger who arrives in an out post in Alaska to murder and mayhem and a face from the past.

167 - Tempest Rising (Jane true)- Nicole Peeler this one is thanks to Chesilbeach and its great the main character Jane True is hilarious the author writes for us her thoughts and they are the sort of thoughts you have yourself when you tell yourself to shut up etc.... Jane true is a half Selkie half human who becomes mixed up in a world of mythical creatures she didn't realise existed.

168 - The Bride that Time Forgot - Paul Magrs I a a big fan of this series from the first (Never the Bride) featuring Brenda and her pal Effie, Brenda owns a B&B in Whitby she is a woman with a mysterious past who lives in a place where wierd things happen. You need to read the rest and they are funny. this is probably not the best of the series but its still worth the read.

169/170/171 - Snapdragon Alley/ Freak City/Dragon Town - Tom Lichtenberg I was really keen to read this trilogy the synopsis looked good along the vein of Neverwhere and UnLundun but I was dissapointed. In the first book two children decide to take every bus route in their city to explore but between one map of the routes and the other there is the mysterious dissapearance of Snapdragon Alley so they decide to go and investigate where its gone. In the second book a period of about 15 years has gone by and the younger brother of one of the 2 children in the first book is coasting through life not quite sure who or what he wants to be, then he starts to recieve mysterious notes and he and his housemates decide to investigate. By the third book one of the two original characters comes back to investigate a mysterious happenings in the original area of snapdragin alley. Ok so I thought this would be a great series but I was SO dissapointed by the ending, it was terrible.

Right I reckon its about time I updated again I am woefully behind on this as usual so I have a few more to add.

172 - Dragon Actually -G A Aiken

173 - What a Dragon should know - G A Aiken

174 - About a dragon - G A Aiken

175 - Last Dragon Standing - G A Aiken

These are all part of the Dragon Kin books and I fell in love with them, they feature a family of dragins who spend there time as humans and fall in love with human men and women, They all contain scenes of an adult nature so definitely not YA in any way shape or form but a good read none the less, I am trying to think what to compare them too and can't think of anything apart from those which feature a shifter community in some way. One of the things I like most about the book is the dialogue between the men and the women its quite wittily written and the female are not weak subdued characters but you have a queen known as The Bloody and many more.

176 - The Darkest Edge of Dawn (Charlie Madigan 2) - Kelly Gay

This is the start of a new series for me, and I thought it had great potential it reminded me a lot of Gena Showalter's Alien Huntress series

Synopsis from Amazon Deep beneath Underground, a cunning bid for power and revenge has begun—one that threatens to make Atlanta the new battleground in the ultimate confrontation between good and evil. The powers of hellish Charbydon have the upper hand after plunging the city into primordial night. And under the cover of darkness, a serial killer targets the most powerful Elysians in the city, the angelic Adonai. For Detective Charlie Madigan and her siren partner Hank, tracking deadly predators is all in a day’s work . . . but this case will test the limits of their strength and friendship as it draws them into a deadly world of power plays, ancient myths, explosive secrets, and a race against time that risks all that Charlie holds dear.

177 - Changes (The Dresden Files) - Jim Butcher

Its been ages since I read the last of the Dresden Files books and I loved it thank goodness I have re-discovered it again. In this book the wizard detective is once again called upon to battle this time mostly against the Red Court I can't say to much about this book because I know others are in the process of reading the book.

178 - Dead(ish) - Naomi Kramer

Thank god this was free it was awful...truly awful I cannot even be bothered to review it...just don't be tempted.

179 - Dark taste of Rapture - Gena Showalter

Another of the alien Huntress series which I have become totally addicted to.

180 - When The dead Speak (1st Sam Casey) - S D Tooley

a freebie on Amazon and I might read more of the series although there were moments where the story was confusing and you weren't sure who was who, I guesss as this was the first of the series it had to introduce a lot of people fill in a backstory and introduce the idea of someone able to talk to the dead and visualise their demise, although in this case its a background of native american rather than any paranormal thing.

181 - Awaken Me darkly - Gena Showalter

Another of the alien Huntress series which I have become totally addicted to

182 - The Serial Thrillers

a bit of a cheat this one as its really a series of introductions to all sorts of crime books some of which I might purchase as a result....well I will definitely get the new Tess Gerritsen which looked brilliant.

183 - The Unicorn Crisis (Hidden Academy) - Jon Rosenberg

This was a bit of a revelation and I really liked it perhaps along the lines of Jim Butchers books but set in the Uk worth it if you are a fan of the other series. will look out for more of this series I think.

184 - Tracking the Tempest (Jane True) - Nicole Peeler

A brilliant series which I am loving thanks to Chesil for recommending it on her thread. Not going to say to much as I think it might give stuff away of you haven't read the first one.

Thats it I think most of these are on the kindle and I know I have managed to find a few others in my normal mode may have to go and dig them out sooner or later.

Right I have been bad bad person and not updated this for ages even though I keep promising too so I am over a month late. Some of these will be a little brief as there is a lot to get through

185 - Black wings (Black Wings Series Book 1 - Christina Henry

Synopsis from Amazon -

As an Agent of Death, Madeline Black is responsible for escorting the souls of

the dearly departed to the afterlife. It's a 24/7 job with a lousy benefits

package. Maddy's position may come with magical powers and an impressive wingspan, but it doesn't pay the bills. And then there are her infuriating boss, tenant woes, and a cranky, popcorn-loving gargoyle to contend with. Things start looking up, though, when tall, dark, and handsome Gabriel Angeloscuro agrees to rent the empty apartment in Maddy's building. It's probably just a coincidence that as soon as he moves in demons appear on the front lawn. But when an unholy monster is unleashed upon the streets of Chicago, Maddy discovers powers she never knew she possessed. Powers linked to a family legacy of tarnished halos. Powers that place her directly between the light of Heaven and the fires of Hell...

My thoughts I quite enjoyed it not the best of this type of book but nonetheless a good read will probably get the second one eventually as its out. :D

186 - Hour of Dust and Ashes - Kelley Gay

This is the 3rd book of the Charlie Madigan series and its a good one. In this she ventures into the world of Chabrydon in pursuit of a cure. well written and and worth pursuing for the future

187 - Dark Light - Jayne Anne Krentz

An old favourite author think I had read this before without realising buts its an easy read when I need something light. A bit of a fluffy romance with a mystery thrown in (arcance society book 11 I think)

188 - A Bloody Good secret (Secret McQueen book 2) - Sienna Dean

189 - Something Secret this way comes (secret McQeen book 1) - Sienna Dean

I enjoyed both these books quite and easy read and not bad for the genre of urban fantasy. Secret McQueen is a slayer of rouge vampires working for the vampire council. As a half werewolf/vampire she is shunned by both societies but able to work on the strenghths of her two halves.

191 - Blood Law (Aalexnder Sabian series book 1) - Jeannie Holmes

Not a great book but I might still read another one but its a bit samey, it assumes that you can catch up on quite an intricate back story but there were a few times when I just wasn't sure I cared enough. The premise of the story is not to bad she obviously uses the Charlaine Harris method of introducing vampires (they have some out with the introduction of synthetic blood and therefore no longer need to feed from humans) Alexander Sabian is an enforcer in a small town who fights prejudice agt the vampires as well as tries to solve the murders of vampires in the area.

192 - Deadly Sanctuary (Kendall O'Dell Mystery) - Sylvia Nobel

This was a freebie, but in fact I quite enjoyed it, kendall O'Dell is a plucky reported given a job in a small town investigating the dissapearance of her predecessor and other mysterious occurences in the town which also has a mental institution so woerd but not bad.

193 - The Dragon who Loved me - G A Aiken

The latest of the series, not the best but still enjoy the books. :D

194 - Embrace the Darkness - Alexandra Ivy

A bit run of the mill vampire falls in love blah blah

195 -Taken by the Wolf - Bonnie Vanak

short and pretty terrible

196 -Angela Blood (The Guild Hunters series book 1 ) - Nalini Singh

197 - Archaengels Kiss ( The Guildhunters series book 2) - - Nalini Singh

Not as good as the Psy-Changeling series but I like the idea so I will probably read more of the series, the Angels are real they rule the world and aren't all loving and giving infact they are terrible.

198 Shadow Magic (Prince of Hazel and Oak) - John Lenahan

second book in this series its light hearted and fun very different very good.

199 - Loose Ends (Mary O'Neil mystery) - Terri Reid

Coming back from the dead gives Mary O,Neill the ability to see ghosts of people who have passed away violently, I have read similar books this wasn't the best neither was it terrible, if it remains cheap on Amazon I can certainly see myself reading more of the series.

200 - Spying in High Heels - Gemma Halliday

a bit of a Janet Evanovich wannabe really if you haven't read any of her books and read this put it down and read the Stephanie Plum books much much better.

201 - 211 The Psy Changeling Series books 1- 10 - Nalini Singh

What can I say I got on a role with these book, I loved them some were better than others I loved Brenna's but in reality they were all great. I love the idea of three types of people coexisting the humans at the bottom of the pile and then the psy's who posses psychic powers of various strengths and abilities but they have sacrificed there humanity and emotions for it, and the changelings in this case werewolves and leopards and can I say very sexy :D

212 - Freaks - Tess Gerritsen

Love Tess Gerritsen but this was only a chapters worth of writing so a good chapter nonetheless.

213 - Shadow Magic - John Leahan

Very funny part two written above love it easy reading but well written and funny.

214 - Hunting Season (The Gathering book 1 ) - Shelly Laurenston

Not a bad book not great Vikings winged warriors tried to be a bit more Kresley Cole than she could and I prefer this.

215 - Canyons of Night - Jayne Anne Krentz

Love it, light hearted, romantic with an easy mystery part of my guilty pleasures.

216 - Blue Heaven - C J Box

I have to admit I prefer his books with the game warden but C J Box certainly captures a part of the world which is obviously close to his heart 'the wilderness'. In this a sister and her younger brother witness the killing of a man in the back woods and are then running for their lives, interestingly it also manages to focus on outsiders coming into areas and buying them up and the benefits and drawbacks to this both financial and ecological. To be honest like some of the reviewers on Amazon I didn't get why the characters followed certain routes in this as there are easier ways of getting things sorted but in the end it was not to bad.

217 - Anno Dracula - Kim Newman

it started slowly but then I got embroiled in the plot which features a Victorian London where the widow Victoria has married Count Dracula, neither feature until the end but its a case of spot the name of either real or fictional characters. Set mainly in Whitechapel it does of course concern the hunt for the 'Ripper'. Dark and engrossing it explores this seedy underbelly of London, characters from the original Bram Stoker play real roles and you learn of their fate as they failed to vanquish the Count as per the book. Author Kim Newman has other subsequent books though I understand they are not sequels, will go and check them out I think.

218 - Pale Demon - Kim Harrison

the latest in the series and I am not sure its not just a bout over as its tied up a lot of loose ends. I like the main chracters and I do find Kim Harrison does on occasion write very witty dialogue so although I think this is the end and I am not sure where she can go from here I am sad and did enjoy it.

219 - Veil of Night - Linda Howard

I have read this before but I do love her books and it was the end of the month so I was desperate to get something out of the library and not spend any money :D

220 - To The Nines -Janet Evanovich

I think this was the only one I had been missing, love the series love Granny Massur and Lula very jealous of Stephanie and her relationships though.

Right thats it, its taken me ages I am not leaving it so long next time, I must do more and read less as from this you can see I have no other life.

Along with my resolution to keep up with my own list here is my latest victim.

221 - Our Tragic Universe - Scarlett Thomas

Just finished this last night, loved it, she writes such intersting stories, I have read The End of Mr Y and Popco I preferred Popco to Mr Y but enjoyed this one immensely. I am interested in cryptography and numbers although I am useless at deciphering both :-) probably because of their beauty and the fact that they are solveable, maybe thats what appeals to me the mystery coming to an end.

With this book I was again drawn into the idea of the philosophy of the end of the universe and the implications of living forever. I can never totally resolve my ambivilant feelings about her main female protagonists in any of her books they are so remote from how I am, I don't think things quite as in depth as they do, and I act upon my gut instinct far more and am far more proactive in my approach to life. I liked the resolution at the end of the book which in reality was the start of something, it didn't have a happily ever after which makes it more life like. Her characters are deeply flawed and not always very likeable but they suit the story better than some writers who make their characters insipid and flavourless.

Really recommend this
