Sedge Posted November 17, 2012 Posted November 17, 2012 St Austell continue the road to Wembley this afternoon against Bemerton Heath Harlequins. For the first time we're the underdogs, but we can still dream! Quote
Inver Posted November 17, 2012 Posted November 17, 2012 Did you win? Andy and 'Dale drew 2-2, as per normal could have won it by more, had the most diabolicle ref, weird decision making and they sent one of our guys off, for what we are not sure. One of our coaches asked why and he said he couldn't tell him, asked again if he had sworn at him and said the same! U'15's away game tomorrow, pretty chilly up here so hope there is not any frost overnight. Quote
Sedge Posted November 18, 2012 Posted November 18, 2012 Unfortunately we had to abandon our Wembley dreams for this season after a 3-2 defeat. I think it's good to be disappointed though, because we went into this game expecting a 3 or 4 goal loss. Instead we had a chance to at least think about progressing as we had a 2-0 half time lead! Bemerton's class showed in the 2nd half though. I found out yesterday that they've recently gone top of their Step 5 league (we're at Step 6), so at the risk of sounding too cliched, the lads did themselves proud yesterday! Your referee sounds a bit mysterious Inver - has he signed the Offical Secrets Act? Quote
Inver Posted November 18, 2012 Posted November 18, 2012 bad luck there Sedge....3-2 not too bad then all in all. Was a cold and frosty morning today, so wondered if footie was cancelled, but no call to say so. We trundled out to Inverurie and there were games on, although they were delayed by 1/2 hr, ref was nearly calling them off apparently. Ours did go ahead and they were playing the top of the leaguers. Down 4-0 at half time, not to bad and then they picked up a bit in the second half, defeated 7-0 and unlucky not to score with the last kick of the ball, which the goalie saved. Andy wasn't expecting them to win, but as per normal they gave away soft goals at start of game....ho hum. Glad I had my thermals on though was very cold, but beautiful sunshine, but no heat in it. So glad our tea ladies were there with their flasks and tea and coffee for halftime. Quote
Inver Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 Hope weather is OK this weekend. Andy & 'Dale have footie tomorrow, but we won't be going...change of venue and the shape of the ball for us. Off to watch Scotland v Tonga at Pittodrie. Thermals on for that one I guess...due to be cold there. Hopefully no snow unlike that last time we went!. No Sunday footie for U'15's, Banchory trying to get their Scottish Cup game played or they probably would have been playing us in another cup. Have a good weekend. Quote
Sedge Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 No thermals down here, just westuits! Yesterday we were hit by a biblical deluge and after a day's break, it looks like there's another huge storm coming tomorrow. Several pitches are completely submerged. Our drainage is really good, but I think chances are I'll be at home watching Final Score tomorrow afternoon! Quote
Inver Posted November 25, 2012 Posted November 25, 2012 Same here.... although yesterday was nice, cold and sunny...ideal for watching an diabolicle performance of rugby from Scotland...no wonder the coach resigned today! Quote
Inver Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 Doubtful there will be any footie played here this weekend.....frosty Quote
Sedge Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 (edited) After last week's washout (some pitches are still underwater!, I've just got back from our match against Launceston in the Cornwall Senior Cup. After having a 2-goal lead twice (2-0 & 3-1), we conceded a penalty in the 8th(!) minute of injury time. In Extra Time we just looked totally disinterested and ended up on the wrong end of a 5-3 defeat. It's only November and we're out of every cup competition! Oh well, we'll just have to make do with winning the league! Likewise for the weather down here Inver - tomorrow is supposed to be even colder. It's a good job I'll be spending a warm afternoon at home with Mrs Sedge! Edited November 30, 2012 by Sedge Quote
Inver Posted December 1, 2012 Posted December 1, 2012 AS predicted...nae footie....we even had wee bit snow overnight and very cold and frosty. Have to be a heatwave overnight for any games tomorrow! Unlucky with the cup competitions...and as you say concentrate on the league and win it... Quote
Sedge Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 Still cold down here, but no sign of snow yet. We're just relieved it's not raining any more. We're back in league action next Saturday and yesterday our opponents were knocked out of the cup by a narrow 9-0 margin - I'm quietly optimistic! Quote
Inver Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 Snow, snow, snow.... Guess what there probably won't be any of this weekend.... Also well done Celtic on your win tonight and getting throught to the final 16....good stuff. Quote
Inver Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 Nothing to report from here this weekend....snow stopped play. Quote
Sedge Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 After 2 straight cup defeats, St Austell were back in league action against Falmouth Town yesterday and earned a huge 6-1 win! Falmouth have always been one of the giants of Cornish football (even reaching the 1st round of the FA Cup in the 70s), but they're going through some serious difficulties at the moment. I hope they make it to the end of the season, but yesterday's game was very important for restoring some of our fading confidence! Quote
Inver Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 Hoorah....6-1 ...great stuff Sedge. Shame if a team of their size has to fold! Hopefully not happen. Still up here, so Andy isn't holding out much hope of footie this weekend again....if pitches aren't frozen they will be well soggy. Quote
Ben Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 I know this thread is a bit of a local team kind of chat but delighted to watch Bradford beat Arsenal in the Capital One Cup (League Cup) quarter-final tonight. I live in Bradford and even had a season ticket a few years ago, but in the end stopped going because of school and now university. They've been on a downward spiral down the leagues for a while now, and this cup run/result will do wonders for them. Three tiers down from Arsenal and they played their strongest team, but Bradford still ground out a win; what a marvellous result for the lads and the city in general. Quote
Sedge Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 It's good to see one of the big teams taking the cup seriously, which makes Bradford's result all the more special - well done to them! Quote
Inver Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 Yeh...great result for Bradford...well done. Watched Arbroath take on Celtic in a Scottish Cup replay tonight, but unfortunately went out 0-1. Now we have our home time team Raith Rovers v Celtic at home.....come on Rovers....you put Aberdeen oot the cup a few years back, let us see another upset. Quote
Ben Posted December 13, 2012 Posted December 13, 2012 Yeah was great, be lucky if Rovers knock out Celtic but here's hoping. Quote
Ben Posted December 14, 2012 Posted December 14, 2012 Am well happy for you Ben. I knew they had a chance, I could feel it. I remember 1997 they beat Everton, and City had Chris Waddle in the team! I support Sheff utd but spent years working and living in Bradford, down by Lister park. Yeah. It's been ages since they've had this kind of notice in the media and it'll do great things for the team spirit I'm sure. Hopefully they can use it as a platform to kick on in the league now because the deserve to be in a better position than they currently are. Quote
Sedge Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 What level of the pyramid do Sheffield play at itsmeagain? Quote
Sedge Posted December 25, 2012 Posted December 25, 2012 (edited) St Austell may be entering the FA Cup next season, so you never know, we may be meeting you! Our Christmas fixtures have been completely washed out this year, so it's warm few days in front of the fire for me! Merry Christmas everybody! Edited December 25, 2012 by Sedge Quote
Ben Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 I'm going to Old Trafford today, someone bought me tickets for the Boxing Day game against Newcastle. Looking forward to hopefully seeing us picking up three points. It'll be a great day I'm sure. Quote
Sedge Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 Two local matches went ahead today, but the clubs involved are regretting it - their pitches probably won't be playable again for 3 weeks! Quote
Sedge Posted December 29, 2012 Posted December 29, 2012 We've had days like that, but they make the good days that much better! Hope you get the managerial vacancy filled quickly and that 2013 starts better than 2012 finished. It's been yet another Cornish washout today, but pleasingly our last league defeat was on 17th October. Our next match is at Newquay on 4th January and the sun has just come out, so maybe we'll dry out in time! Quote
