You think that's bad? My mother once burned lime jelly! The kitchen stank of it for weeks and to this day I can't stand lime jelly. :smile2:

I have had a strange life, but here goes.

1. Born to unknown Asian parents in Chelmsford, Essex in November 1955.

2. Illegally adopted by another Asian couple & taken to Bangalore, India 8 months later, where I grew-up without knowing my origins.

3. Never got on with my foster family, and upon discovering in 1984 that I was living a false life, legally changed my name, disinherited myself and broke all contact with them - never to restablish.

4. Meanwhile, I had got married - incidentally my best friend's girlfriend whom he made the mistake of introducing to me :smile2:.

5. Worked as Dr first in India as a GP, then as Radiologist before coming to the UK in 1985. Then changed to Anesthetics for 6 years before going back into General Practice in 1992 and here I am!

How can you burn jelly???:smile2:

Well, it's a funny story...

My Mam used to melt the jelly on the stove in an enamel dish, rather than melting it in the hot water (don't ask me why). one day when she was making the lime jelly in question, a friend came to the door and kept her talking - she left the jelly on the stove.

She later said she'd never known it was possible to completely destroy an RAF-issue enamelled tin dish, but you can do it with lime jelly, I assure you!

It's become a running joke in our family - some people could burn water, my mother can burn jelly!

One word of warning - don't try this at home - the reek is indescribable!

And what is it about food with holes that gets to you?

Oh, you gave me a heart attack! I used to sell real designer handbags, and we were constantly being bothered by people who wanted us to give them free repairs and cleaning on their fake bags. But I still have to admit that even I have one fake Louis Vuitton...but I can't bring myself to wear it outside! :smile2: I can only be seen in public with my real ones.

3. I'm not as confident as people think I am.

I wonder if many people think that - I certainly do. My daughter can lack confidence and I tell her not to worry as a lot of people do, but I tell her if you tend to portray confidence (even when you feel scared to death) you tend to get through. Well it seems to have worked for me and having gone through quite a lot I now tend to find that not as much phases me!
