Nollaig Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 I like James Marster's voice, but I've never heard him sing or talk in his actual American accent. When he was singing in the musical episode, I thought the English accent sounded a little forced, when normally it doesn't, so that spoiled it a little. I agree that Anthony Head has an amazing voice - Standing makes me cry every time. Also, r.e the character thing, I agree with Mia. Quote

Nollaig Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 I tend to get caught up in the relationships that are more hinted at than ever actually acted out, like say some actions have an outward obvious effect, but some others don't have an outward effect but leave a sort of negative, or imprint. The most obvious example was the father daughter relationship between Buffy and Giles - and the reason that song makes me cry is because it's (I think) the only time either of them ever uses the word 'father'. Nollaig Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 Okay, I'm skipping ahead to watch the musical ep. I have to, I've been listening to the soundtrack. Can I also say - Sweet is totally underrated. Just because he's 'only the demon', he gets dismissed. His songs and voice are amazing. I love the kind of music he sings. Quote
Mia Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 I've never seen Buffy or Angel. You've missed a couple of really good shows! Why not rent the first two seasons of Buffy? I say the first two, because the first series, although excellent, is more a "baddie of the week" format, but some really excellent story arcs get going in season 2. Go on, you know you want to! *adopts Mrs Doyle voice* Go on, go on, go on! Quote

Nollaig Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 It won much-deserved awards. It's superb. The songs stand alone pretty well, most of the cast have alright voices, while Giles and Tara have superb voices. It's witty, there's proper structuring, harmonies, reprises, duets, dances, some ballet, it's amazing. Quote
Nollaig Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 Sorry about the double post but OH MAN!! I just saw the bit where Buffy and Faith meet Wesley for the first time, the dialogue is superb!! *Buffy walks into the library* Wesley: Ah, this must be Buffy. Buffy: New Watcher? Giles: New Watcher. Wesley: *inane ramblings with Buffy and Giles* *Faith walks in* Wesley: Ah, this is perhaps Faith? Faith: New Watcher? Buffy and Giles: New Watcher. Faith: Screw that. *Faith walks out* I actually choked on my drink I laughed so hard  Quote
Nollaig Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 Triple post, but I don't care. I'll merge them once someone PAYS ATTENTION!! Nah I'm kidding. Just watched Prom, now onto the two part Season 3 finale, meaning I've watched 54 episodes. 90 to go. Also, I've cried more in the last week watching all this Buffy than I have in the last ten years. I'm not a crying kind of person, the last thing to make me cry was Christian the Lion remembering his owners after a year in the wild. But man, watching Buffy has unleashed the inner teenage girl. It's also funny how, when I was about 15, watching these episodes I thought Angel was the big bad for leaving Buffy, I refused to accept they could not be together. Bit like Buffy. Now that I'm older, I'm actually seeing it from Angel's perspective, that it's really for the best and you can't always do what you want, even if it's what you want more than anything. Does this mean I'm growing up? *clings to youth* Quote
Mia Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 Nah, don't bother with the growing up. It's not all it's cracked up to be. That exchange you quoted when Buffy and Faith meet Wesley is hilarious! I laughed like mad too, especially when Buffy says, "Now why didn't I think of that?" I forgot all about Wesley - I really, really dislike him. And then he turned up in Angel. Ack. Well, I've started watching Angel and last night I watched the one where Kate the cop goes to sensitivity training. Very mediocre. Quote
Nollaig Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 Kate the cop is a useless character and will be gone soon. I forgot she ever even existed, tbh. I really want to watch Angel Quote
Stephanie2008 Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 Kate the cop is a useless character and will be gone soon. I forgot she ever even existed, tbh. I really want to watch Angel I agree. I've just watched the episode where her father dies and I just can't stand her. She just keeps saying "I'm not your girlfriend" and I just feel like saying HE NEVER SAID YOU WERE. Sorry but she just annoys me. I haven't seen the first season for so long so most of these episodes feel brand new. The next episode I have to watch is the ones where Faith shows up. I haven't seen these for so long and I really love Faith Quote
Nollaig Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 I used to like Faith but she just annoys me now. Probably because I love Tru Calling and Tru is a much more likeable character than Faith. To me Faith is a weak and ignorant little girl who talks big but has nothing to back it. Quote

lopeanha Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 I'm tempted! When I saw Roxi say there was a musical episode, I got quite excited - my new obsession with vampire stories, plus my old obsession with musicals ... how could I not love it? The musical episode is awesome, all this singing and dancing Giles has the BEST voice, most definately! I even bought the soundtrack from Once more with feeling, because I couldn't get enough of this episode. Spike's song would be my favourite after Giles. Quote
Nollaig Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 I just watched the Angel episode, 'I Will Remember You' where Angel is turned human for twenty four hours. I cried. A lot. Quote
lexiepiper Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 I really like that ep too, I watched it a few weeks back Quote
Stephanie2008 Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 I love that episode It's so sad that he finally gets to be normal. I'm watching the first disc of Season 2 at the moment Quote
Nollaig Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 Now I just watched the one where Doyle dies. I don't think I have any tears left, and my throat hurts. 'Is that it? Am I done?' <- I get teary just thinking about that line. Quote
Stephanie2008 Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 That is a hard one to watch. I really liked Doyle I do love Wesley too but I had just started to love Doyle. They were the two saddest episodes for me too. I really like the one where Cordelia gets pregnant too. It's so random Quote
Nollaig Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 (edited) I'm now skipping 4 seasons to watch the episode where Cordy dies. Inspired by the fact that it's the 100th ep of the show, and the one where they rewatch Doyle's tape. I shouldn't skip, but I really want to watch it. ET: Okay, NOW I'm all cried out. Nollaig Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 Okay, can I just say, I hate Buffy? I HATE BUFFY!! What is her PROBLEM?!?! I just watched the two Angel episodes with Faith, 'Five By Five' and 'Sanctuary', where Angel tries to help Faith, and succeeds, and Buffy shows up. And first of all, she hits him, a Slayer, hitting a vampire, and goes all sexist when he hits her back, and then later has the audacity to talk about how hard it is for her to see Angel with Faith (he wasn't even WITH her!) and then starts talking about Riley. And how the Riley thing is new because she knows him, and trusts him. WHAT THE HELL gives her the right to turn up in ANGEL'S life after he left hers for both their sakes, and comment on his actions like she's still his girlfriend, before rubbing in his face that she's with someone new? Can someone please explain to me how she is not a stupid, pathethic, whiney little witch with a B? I take back what I said about Faith. I don't like her attitude at the start, and Buffy has it harder than perhaps she lets on, but I have far more respect for how the murderer turns out than the whiny schoolgirl. Quote
