Athena
Well.. a new year, a new film topic! I haven't seen any films in the past few weeks, because I haven't had enough energy to watch any. Post about any film(s) you've seen recently that you feel like talking about.
Madeleine
As it's only just been released I've copied it over from 2019: I saw Little Women on Sunday - I enjoyed it, but thought there was too much jumping back and forth between childhood and adulthood, I think anyone who doesn't know the story would be completely confused! Beautifully filmed and acted though.
itsmeagain
Watching Mrs Wilson on iPlayer. Pretty good really.

itsmeagain
Knives out. A semi comic crime romp with Daniel Craig.
Raven
Blade Runner 2049 Second watch of this, having been given a copy at Christmas. Bloody awesome! A really good story that doesn't widdle all over the original, with fantastic visuals and an excellent score. Possibly one of the best sequels ever made. Why did I avoid it for so long?! Brian.
I went to watch Parasite last week just before the oscar win and it was every bit as good as I hoped it would be.
willoyd
Went to see Emma with OH today. It's had mixed reviews, but we loved it. It's not classical, but there's some real bite, and love the somewhat irreverent approach. Anya Taylor-Joy is excellent, as are most of the women (although feel Jane Fairfax was a bit underused). Men are fine, but several didn't quite fit the parts for me, especially Johnny Flynn, who played it well but was simply too young. Loved Bill Nighy as Mr Woodhouse though.Sets, costumes etc were cracking (OH, a bit of a specialist, commented that for once the sewing looked genuinely hand-done). Not perfect, but I'd go and see it again tomorrow.
Raven
Alien: Covenant Not seen this before, but it was on Film 4 last night and in these days of Coronavirus when you are looking for a diversion... Can easily be summarised as a poor remake of Aliens. On the plus side, I do quite like Katherine Waterston, so it wasn't all bad.
Onion Budgie
Ready Player One -- and I really enjoyed it. It's made me want to read the book, which is apparently very different to the film.

I've just cancelled Prime for a bit, but I have a few days left to run!
Madeleine
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society (think that's right) - caught up with this at the weekend, after the first half hour or so I enjoyed it. There was a really strange coincidence involving the book I'm currently reading - in the film the main character gives the farmer Charles Lamb's tales, illustrated by Arthur Rackham - that night I carried on reading my book and got to a bit where the heroine finds a valuable book has gone missing from her old nursery, and the book is Lamb's tales illustrated by Arthur Rackham! Seems such a coincidence, especially as I'd only watched the film a few hours before, and then read about the book a few hours later. Twilight Zone or what! Madeleine
the Snowman - the film version of Jo Nesbo's novel - what a mess! I have read the book but couldn't remember that much about it apart from the basic storyline, but it was very disjointed and they fudged the ending - the final confrontation is done much better in the book, whereas the film's ending felt very rushed and anti-climactic. I also thought Michael Fassbender was too young, again this is where the book comes in - Harry is about 10 years older than MF in the book, and he was just too young to capture all the world weariness that Harry has, he just came across as the usual petulant maverick cop, which he is in the book but there is much to his character than all the usual clichés. It was obviously hoped there'd be another film judging by the last scene but I remember the reviews weren't very good so I wasn't expecting much. Also one of those films with lots of familiar faces popping up in tiny roles. Great scenery though.

I went to the cinema to watch it when it came out and it remains one of the worse films i've every seen. I still remember two things which really, really annoyed me. Firstly, Fassbender's disappearing and re-appearing moustache between scenes was an unacceptable oversight. Secondly, the redub of Val Kilmer's voice was terrible and didn't match the screen at all. I know it was due to his throat cancer surgery but I've seen better re-dubs in episodes of the The Inbetweeners.
Madeleine
Glad I didn't waste money in the cinema, it was on TV! I noticed a continuity gaff too, but I can't remember what it was.

Marie H
The 39 Steps (1935, Director Alfred Hitchcock). Why haven’t I see this classic before? It was excellent.
