  1. Birdsong ~ Sebastian Faulks (widely read and recognised as quality literature). I'm not a fan of Harry Potter but agree that they would stand the test of time.
  2. Brian Cox has written books about space and Earth that are directed at the layperson.
  3. Logan: excellent, but much darker than the other X-Men films.
  4. Could it be the Rizzoli and Isles series by Tess Gerritsen?
  5. My kids are older now so don't dress up for World Book Day any more but their secondary school holds a 'drop everything and read' day every year, so they have to have a book in their bags and teachers can at any time say drop everything and read. My older two just read text books as they are studying for exams but Robbie took in the latest Diary of a Wimpy kid book.
  6. Will have to give it a try, maybe when my youngest is in bed!
  7. Thanks Madeleine, I probably won't hurry to give it a try then!!
  8. Kay, I've been reading a lot about the thyroid lately - yes, I know how to live! - as I have a fair few of the symptoms for an overactive one (and some for the underactive too!) the symptoms include anxiousness and fatigue...there are many others! Some reports, mainly U.S. ones, are saying that due to modern diets and lifestyles as many as 20% of women have undiagnosed thyroid issues! Unfortunately the way thyroids are tested in the U.K. we may never find out! I'm doing some reading on the subject at the moment to see how if I can improve my symptoms with more diet and lifestyle improvements - sometimes otherwise known as feeling miserable and deprived! I would love to consult a Functional Medicine specialist but I'm not sure we have any decent ones over here, and if we do, I'm not sure whether I could afford them!
  9. Broadchurch was fab, will be looking forward to Monday evenings for a while! I was wondering whether to take a look at Roots...is it good?
  10. Have either of you read The Virgin Blue? I've had it on my TBR shelves a while...
  11. Kay, i was put on beta blockers to try and help my migraines but they made me so exhausted I couldn't hack it. That was one of the reasons I had a complete overhaul of my diet which has helped more than I'd hoped. Still not amazing but I just couldn't cope with feeling so tired all the time.
  12. Salmon and rice with lots of vegetables! Love it!
  13. I have this on the Sky planner to watch, though suspect I should read the book first, which is sitting on my TBR shelves, so really wouldn't require too much effort!
  14. Yay, good news Frankie, that must be such a relief, you can keeps your eyes peeled for something else but not feel rushed or stressed to do so.

  16. Thanks ladies, I need to spend less time online and more time reading!
  17. Same here, I do have a few reference books on the go but I don't count them unless I read them cover to cover.
  18. For me it would have to be something light, probably with an element of romance...possibly from an author I am already familiar with so as to enhance the likeliehood of me enjoying the book.
  19. I like strange, and dark, so sounds like a possible hit! The Epsom Book Fair is once a year so that's it for a while...I did google other book fairs but nothing nearby which I am trying to be grateful for! March WILL be a no book buying month! Honestly!! .........
  20. Finished Mischling by Affinity Konar (novel based on the experience of twins in Auschwitz at the hands of the despicably Dr Joseph Mengele), the first half left me a little flat but picked up in the second half, just horrific to think what those poor children, and adults, went through.
  21. Bit of a colour theme there, a new book challenge?! Hope you enjoy them all, when you get around to them of course!
  22. Indeed, I don't feel bad about it at all! Thanks Madeline. Thanks L.P, I'm looking forward to it! In more book buying news, I found an Amazon code I hadn't used so bought three more books...well, it is still February! Hold Back the Stars - Katie Khan It Ends With Us - Colleen Hoover The Penguin Book of First World War Poetry Happy days!
