  1. It's not bossy at all frankie, you're just 'doing your job' It would be lovely to meet you if possible frankie, I can't promise how many dogs I'll have by then though I'm in Surrey which is south of London if that helps?
  2. Fingers crossed its a good one!! :-))
  3. I've been very lucky overall, I've got so many books now (by my standards) that I can pick and choose whatever I fancy as what I feel like reading very much depends on my mood.
  4. Definitely a thread to be resurrected!!
  5. I was very lucky to get an iPad for my birthday and it's great for accessing BCF, my only gripe is that I cannot use emoticons, do any other iPad users know if I can download an app maybe to help with this?
  6. I suppose there's always a chance, I'll try and save the voucher for after the closing date, wonder if my willpower can hold out that long... :-)
  7. Another great review Michelle, I'm wondering whether to use my Amazon voucher for this.....
  8. You're welcome, I wonder if there is a thread somewhere where we can talk about and recommend books about dogs and other animals?? :-))
  9. We had and still have cake, a very nice choc chip with white choc buttercream icing on top, I had to share my buttercream with the dogs as I'm not a big fan of white chocolate...they didn't complain! Are you only reading books set in and about Paris now? To get you in the mood? :-))
  10. Thanks everyone! A Dog's Purpose looks right up our street frankie, it was recommended to me by Amazon after buying The Art Of Racing In The Rain! Here's the synopsis from Amazon......... This is the remarkable story of one endearing dog s search for his purpose over the course of several lives. More than just another charming dog story, A DOG S PURPOSE touches on the universal quest for an answer to life s most basic question: Why are we here? Surprised to find himself reborn as a rambunctious golden-haired puppy after a tragically short life as a stray mutt, Bailey s search for his new life s meaning leads him into the loving arms of 8-year-old Ethan. During their countless adventures Bailey joyously discovers how to be a good dog. But this life as a beloved family pet is not the end of Bailey s journey. Reborn as a puppy yet again, Bailey wonders will he ever find his purpose? Heart-warming, insightful, and often laugh-out-loud funny, A DOG S PURPOSE is not only the story of a dog s many lives, but also a dog s-eye commentary on human relationships and the unbreakable bonds between man and man s best friend. This beautifully crafted novel teaches us that love never dies, that our true friends are always with us, and that every creature on Earth is born with a purpose.
  11. Thanks everybody!! I'm still reading The Good Father by Diane Chamberlain, which is going along very nicely, an early night tonight may finish it.
  12. Hi Mary! I loved The Host and have Delirium on my TBR shelf, I noticed Marina by Carlos Ruiz Zafon is a Spanish title, do you know if it's one that has been translated into English? The reviews don't look very good for it, how did you find it, he was one of my favourite authors last year...
  13. Well it was my birthday today and I was fortunate to get some lovely book presents and with the money gifts I got from family I bought even more books! Now I need to spend more time reading them..... (And not playing on my new iPad!!) So, I got - Enduring Love - Ian McEwan The Blue Door - Lise Kristensen A Dog 's Purpose - W. Bruce Cameron When Night Were Cold - Susanna Jones The Good Father - Noah Hawley The Light Between Oceans - M.L Steadman Hollow Pike - James Dawson The Pink Hotel - Anna Stothard The Essential Tales of Chekhov - edited by Richard Ford One Perfect Summer - Paige Toon 15 Seconds - Andrew Gross I think they will keep me going, though I have an Amazon voucher too, just in case!!! Can anyone recommend any of them? :-)
  14. It's odd that some dogs can see people on screen when others can't, you'd think they'd all be the same! Dylan (black Lab cross) does the head cocking thing, we used to sine a laser ont eh floor which made him do it like Emma, so so cute.. Funnily enough the dogs don't go any madder when Steve comes home after 2 months away than they do after he's been out for an hour, always very enthusiastic!!!
  15. It's my birthday today and I got lots of book pressies, along with money from family that I spent on books too, I'll list them on my book blog shortly. :-))
  16. Welcome Mariana! I have friends visiting Brazil for a wedding in August, I'm so jealous!
  17. Hello and welcome April! :-))
  18. Do you know, I'm not really sure, I just googled it and apparently it was marketed as his first book for adults yet other people have said they have studied it age 13. I think it can safely be said that it crosses genres and is suitable for young adults yet will appeal to adults too. I know I will be encouraging my children to read it in the not too distant future.
  19. I'm not a big Bear fan Poppy but this was very funny, I hope you like it too.. :-)
  20. 64 Charing Cross Road...
  21. Great review of The Book Thief Karsa, so glad you liked it, I'm hoping it may become compulsory reading in schools someday.
  22. Hmmm classics, not my speciality I'm afraid, I have Rebecca on my TBR so I'll be interested to hear what you think of it. I remember enjoyed Sons and Lovers at college but I believe I've seen some less kind reviews of it on here, Lorna Doone and Tess of the D'Urbervilles were teenage favourites as was Of Mice and Men, To Kill a Mockingbird obviously, though I only got around to it last year. What defines a classic, would The Secret Garden be allowed?
  23. Sorry Ben, there is no safe place! We were at a badminton tournament today and the place practically emptied for the last 10 mins of the Man City game as it was being shown in the adjoining coffee shop, what an exciting end to the season, at both ends of the table!!! Oh, and I'm a Chelsea supporter so I don't have a huge amount to shout about!! Although I'm hoping that may change next week!
  24. Finished Tiny Sunbirds Far Away which was a lovely read, I must see if Christie Watson has written anything else yet, starting The Good Father by Diane Chamberlain, which is a review copy for Waterstone's, not to be confused with The Good Father by Noah Hawley!
