  1. You'll only need to read a few pages to see what we mean poppy..
  2. He is gooooooorrrrrgggeous!! :) I'm not sure how it came about, but it's lovely that we can share in each others reading, although I've had to steer her gently away from my True Blood collection!
  3. Just found this review, I'm glad you enjoyed it VF, thought you might like to know that Anne Berry released another book last year - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Water-Children-Anne-Berry/dp/0007303475/ref=sr_1_3?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1349074145&sr=1-3
  4. Getting into Hollow Pike now and think it could be a good 'un
  5. Reuben is growing into such a handsome boy, is he still a good boy? Looks like butter wouldn't melt, but I know Labs, that's often a front for food stealing and shoe chewing.. Neo is gorgeous too, sadly I have to avoid all male Goldies on our walks as Obi is not a big fan and they don't seem to understand his body posture and murmurs of disapproval like other breeds do, but the males of the breed are particularly stunning and affectionate as a rule. Oh I don't believe that for a minute,he looks like an angel . Were you not tempted, even just a little, to switch the fan on?
  6. Welcome
  7. Welcome
  8. No I've not seen that, I'll have to look out for it! That quoting didn't work so well on the iPad but I'm too tired to sort it, I'm sure you can see whatever I've written there!!
  9. I bet Laurel used poetic licence and added a few pauses in her reading, she'd have had to or she wouldn't have lasted the duration of the book! . Only 20 pages into Hollow Pike as a) It's the weekend and kids are here and b) my mum has come for an impromptu visit (I'd like to think she wants to see us but I think she's actually trying to avoid my Dads constant Ryder Cup television ritual! Or get the audio version.......
  10. Chicken in creamy tarragon sauce in the slow cooker at the mo, just about to make some sauté potatoes to go with it..
  11. Soul Surfer, was surprisingly good, hence why I'm up so late...
  12. Gave up very quickly on How I Live Now, the punctuation was awful, no where near enough commas left me exhausted and infuriated.. Will start on Hollow Pike instead..
  13. Well that is what Maddie chose but I'm sorry to say I practically threw it across the room after only 20 pages, does Ms Rosoff not believe in punctuation?! I was exhausted reading paragraph after paragraph with no commas or full stops, I felt myself asphyxiating!! I'm no punctuation/grammar tyrant but I just knew that book and I were not going to get along.. So it's onto Hollow Pike tomorrow!
  14. Or me, so there'll be a seat in Camberley if that's a help...
  15. Finished Home Front by Kristin Hannah today, loved it!! Now onto How I Live Now by Meg Rosoff, a YA book that has had mixed reviews on here, we shall see!
  16. It's been in the group of 3 twice already, maybe it'll get it's turn today!
  17. Well, I gave myself the promised half hour reading and finished a book, Home Front by Kristin Hannah. She wrote Night Road, one of my favourite books of 2011 and she didn't disappoint with this offering, her stories are so real I can feel myself there! So now I can start working on my TBR shelf, I've picked out three books for my daughter to choose from.... Hollow Pike The Pain Merchants How I Live Now All YA books as fancy something easy to read after Home Front which was a wee bit emotional!!
  18. Do you have any recent pics? Would love to see them if so!
  19. Thanks bobbly, that's definitely in my top ten! . (How's that puppy of yours doing these days?) Sadly I have little time to read during the day but I am going to try and grab half an hour a day, spending less time on the computer would help! That must be the SciFi/Fantasy part...
  20. That's on my wish list too, don't remind me!!! . Good luck with your pile too! Almost makes it acceptable Michelle! Thanks Janet, I need to have a plan I think, I was thinking of setting out an order in which to read the books but then realised that would make it a chore so I'll stick with my current method, I choose three books I'd like to read and then my daughter selects one of them for me to read, she takes her role so seriously I now have to do the same for her! There's definitely quite a few books on my shelf which have had great reviews by the wonderful members on this forum so i'll try and start with them, there are a few non fiction ones there too which I find harder to read (even the doggy ones to some extent) so I need inter disperse those between the fiction books.
  21. Thanks for the encouragement poppy, I need it! I do hope to spend more time reading now though time seems to be at a premium lately, even with the kids at school all day I barely have time to stop, 2 separate dog walks a day isn't helping, especially as I always seem to be able to predict when it is going to rain.. . Still, onward and upward, off to bed to get on with some reading!!!
  22. OK, I'm officially useless!!! I stated on the 7th July (post 163) that I was going to make a serious effort to get my TBR pile down...Two and a half months later and it has increased by 8, not including the (very) few books I have read in that time AND the ones I have evicted from the house as I had lost interest in them!!!! I have now updated by TBR list (on page 1 of this blog if you're interested, I'll understand if not!!) and I am going to make a concerted effort to not buy any more books until I have made a serious serious dent in the pile, I hate clutter and mess and my shelves aren't looking as neat as they could I only have one book on pre order so have no excuses for buying any more (other than that I am a comfort buyer, some people comfort eat, I comfort shop!! ) I have decided that if I have an shopping urge that cannot be ignored I will either buy a book for the children or a friend, or I will indulge in a cookery book or two.. Hopefully I will have the willpower this time, it is officially Autumn here so perfect reading conditions!!!
  23. How did it end?! I had a recording clash at the end (b****y kids!!)
  24. Great pics frankie! I hope you get a chance to work there again sometime soon..
