  4. Have started The Blue Door by Lise Kristensen, very sad already...
  5. I'll be interested to hear what you think of The Red Tent Janet, a friend of mine raved about it so I read it and couldn't see what all the fuss was about. It's definitely a good book club read though, lots to discuss!!
  6. I think there may be a male/female divide with this book, I read it for my O'Levels and hated it with a passion...My son is now doing it in English and is enjoying it very much, apparently the girls in the class are not so keen...
  7. Maybe you could give them a call for me? She picked the wrong dog, Obi prefers older females as a rule, so he's normally on the look out for 'Cougar' dogs! It's on the wishlist already!!!! That makes perfect sense, thank you!! Did it work?????
  8. Pickled onions, mmmmm
  9. About halfway through The Villa by Rosanna Ley, nice easy read so far...
  10. Thanks for the advice, I'll try to remember that one, I need an 'I Don't Wish LIst'!!! Oh, and a quick tech question, how to I reply to a message and get the individual quotes to come up in boxes so that I can reply to each one separately without having to do it like this?! I'm sure it's obvious but I'm not very bright!!
  11. He was the only one of the three that I don't think believed he could win it too. They were all gracious at the end, they all just seemed keen on improving their own baking rather than belittling everyone else.. It was nice to see what all the other contestants are going now as well.
  12. Wasn't it just! Well deserved I thought though. :)
  13. 3 fabulous books, Born Under a Million Shadows was easily as good, for me, as The Kite Runner, you're very lucky to have these ahead of you!
  14. I think a very wide range of people of various ages have enjoyed The Hunger Games trilogy, I certainly did (age 41), as did my son (12 years old at the time). Hope that helps!
  15. Just finished Seeking Crystal, the third in Joss Stirling's Benedict Brothers series, very enjoyable YA read.. Now onto The Villa by Rosanna Ley
  16. Hope you're feeling better soon Laura x x
  17. I've never cooked it myself but have eaten it out and enjoyed it, I believe I've seen some recipes on the BBC Good Food website, worth a look!
  18. I don't think it would be worth it for me, I haven't yet made the leap to kindle and I'm not sure I will but being able to borrow books for free/cheap would be an incentive, but £49 a year for a maximum of 12 books, £4 ish each certainly isn't an incentive for me...
  19. Kindle Owners' Lending Library is coming soon From late October, Kindle owners with an Amazon Prime membership can borrow popular Kindle books at no extra cost, as frequently as one book per month and with no due dates. Choose from over 200,000 titles, including all seven Harry Potter books and other top sellers in the Amazon.co.uk Kindle Store. Am I being thick? Does that say you can borrow just one book a month? Amazon prime is £49 a year.. Wonder if they'll introduce general local library membership at some point?
  20. It was on the Amazon front page this morning and it mentioned the kindle lending library becoming available in the UK too, need to read into that a bit more!
  21. I've read another 17 books since starting this thread, I was just going to add the books with the highest rating I have given to the list but thought instead I would look at my list and see which ones I remembered most fondly, and they are... Torn by David Massey (a great YA about the realities of war, for fans of that particular genre, one I am trying to persuade my 13 year old to read!) The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey Home Front by Kristin Hannah Ordinary Dogs by Eileen Battersby A Dog's Purpose by W. Bruce Cameron How's the reading year going for everyone?
  22. So sorry to hear about your uncle Laura x x
