  1. Hello Sarah, and welcome to the best book club around! I feel the same way about kindles too! I have nothing against anyone who owns one though.
  2. Great reviews! I have added five of the books to my list, and I think I will need to put some higher up on my list.
  3. Do you like visiting secondhand or independent bookshops? Are there any good ones in Melbourne? (I could note them down for future reference. ) I found out about Readings a while back. They seem to have a few branches in and around Melbourne and look pretty good. Well I would think there would be a few in Melbourne, but I only know how to get to my specialists and back. I should really check out where they are though and try and visit one or two on one of my trips. You get bookmarks with every order? I only get them rarely and haven't actually received any for ages. Maybe because I order so many books they figure I've received them all by now. They have stopped for me too, I haven't had one in my last 15 or so books. I emailed them about it and they told me they were all out of stock and were in the process of printing new ones. Haruki Murakami's 1Q84 is a book that keeps popping up everywhere I go, its like it is trying to tell me to buy it . I don't know if that ever happens to you with a book.
  4. I too am a girl in a castle - about half way through it now.
  5. I've only ever read two major series (shock horror I know) and they both came highly recommended to me, by my now brother in law who has similar reading tastes. Hunger games and Game of thrones will be my next two, but as odd as this will sound, it never really occurred to me to read a series until I had met my now brother in law. Though as I write this, I do remember reading the goosebump books as a kid (it got turned into a decent tv series as well) but they were more of a single story contained in one book kind of series, so it didn't matter what order you read them in.

    Hobbies

Well you could say I have a mixed bag of hobbies, my main three though would be gaming (consoles/pc), reading and photography. I also build models, sketch/draw - both digital and old school, paint, I co-own and help run a forum, and sometimes (but very rarely in the last year or so) I do a little scrapbooking. I used to do jewellry making, beading, longstitch and cross stitch but had to stop a few years back when It all got too painful for my hands to work with needles etc.
  7. I too, have started reading I capture the castle
  8. I too, am keen to check out the Bartimaeus Trilogy!
  9. It was much the same down here when the commonwealth games were held too.
  10. I think it was you! Yes it does have illustrations with Gustave Dore, it has a red leather cover with a ribbon marker and gold page edges? (not sure what you call that). I have always been interested in the book ever since I played the game Dantes Inferno a few years back, which is a console game based on Dantes book.
  11. I finally finished The Reapers by John Connolly! Not sure what to read next though. I also received my illustrated copy of The Divine Comedy yesterday, which I believe someone else here on the forum also has? The first book of game of thrones also came this morning so now my set is complete! I'm not quite ready for a heavy series yet though.
  12. Well the shelves are built! So all I need to do is name all the books and put them on said shelf. To add to my delight, my illustrated copy of the The Divine Comedy came in the mail today! I believe someone else on the forum has a copy too?
  13. I don't watch sports... well almost, I do watch the motorsports, but every four years I get excited for the Olympics! Though while I had figured there would be a few problems here and there (I remember what it was like when we had the commonwealth games here in Melbourne, and the news reports I heard when the Olympics were on in Sydney), it's still makes me sad to hear it goes on still. It's meant to be about the athletes after all isn't it! Sadly it is the world we live in, where money and greed are everything, especially at times like this (financial crisis).
  14. Hi and welcome! You will fit in perfectly I think!
  15. I have a copy of treasure island too! Except it's one with the original title - coral island (it's original name before its new one) I'm not entirely sure how true that is.
  16. My mum gave me a box of old books including one that is over 100 years old! I had to go and buy a fourth bookshelf, once I have put ithe shelf together I will write up the list of books I got.
  17. I have been stuck on the same book for almost a month now, and it's driving me nuts because I would of read it in about a week. Big fat book, but it's got a big font type. Not the large font type for people who have trouble reading.
  18. I am at the halfway mark for The Reapers It's taking me far too long to get through. The third game of thrones book arrive from BD today, so now I am just awaiting the first and I can finally start reading it! I loved the tv show. The first hunger games book also arrived, so that series is ready to be read.
  19. Hello and welcome!
  20. Hello and welcome! You will love it here!
  21. I also added that book to my list too VF and a few of the others as well! I'm going to need a room for my books alone soon.
  22. As a new comer to Barbara Erskine, which book do you guys recommend I read first? Or should I just start from the first one published?
  23. I got one of many books I ordered in the post today (damn Easter/Mid year sales). George Orwell - 1984 which also happens to be the year I was born!
