  1. My weekend was crazy busy so I barely got any reading in, but I received The Swan Thieves by Elizabeth Kostova as an early birthday present and yesterday picked up First Amoung Sequels by Jasper Fforde at Border's for only $2.00! Very exciting .
  2. Wow this is a hard one! Here are my five I'm thinking of now, but I'll probably change my mind later. Julian Kestrel - From the Julian Kestrel mystery series by Kate Ross Edmond Dantes - The Count of Monte Cristo by Edgar Dumas Bernadette Hogan - Circle of Friends by Maeve Binchy Jonathan Argyle - From the art history mystery series by Iain Pears Aleinor De La Chapelle - The Lady and the Unicorn by Tracy Chevalier
  3. Crackerjacks, mmm.
  4. C'mon C'mon - The Von Bondies
  5. Hummus and carrots!
  6. Most of the time I get my books from the used books shops in town, but if I'm really excited about a new release I'll either go to Barnes & Noble or shop online at Amazon since they have excellent deals. Other than that I go to Borders or the library .
  7. Spoonman - Soundgarden
  8. Hmmm, maybe I should go to my local store at midnight and bang on the doors asking for my sparklies! When I went looking for the NM soundtrack on the day it came out here, I had to wait for the guy to go in the back and get one since they hadn't even unpacked the boxes yet! This was on the actual release date too - I tried to act cool but I was annoyed at this kid.
  9. I've heard that about Coke but I've never tested it out! Yikes! This is odd but I learned what the term 'Lot Lizard' means today. Everyone was surprised I hadn't heard of it before. Apparently it's code for a prostitute who hangs around in a truck stop parking lot . I had no idea! Is the US the only place that has truck stops? I've often wondered...
  10. Aww what nice presents, Fi! I'm hoping for a NM FSE next week . I'm hearing that the NM DVD comes out on 20 March, but I'm confused because that's a Saturday. DVDs (like music) usually come out on Tuesdays here. What's the standard in the UK?
  11. I liked No Country, Mexicola, but I didn't love it I'm afraid and liked TWBB more I guess . Definitely check out Hard Eight! Excellent little movie with John C. Reilly .
  12. Of course you would like Welcome to the Dollhouse, Frankie! I love that movie . There are many faves for me, although I do tend to have more fave directors and films rather than specific people. Here are a few though- Benicio Del Toro, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Sharlto Copley (I think his only film is District 9 but I loved him in it!), Kate Winslet, Emma Thompson, Mark Ruffalo, Forrest Whitaker, Scarlett Johannson, Kevin Spacey, Jeff Bridges, Russell Crowe.
  13. I'm in Book Fiend's boat as well - I cry very easily! There are a few that made me actually feel ill from crying so much though: Terms of Endearment Steel Magnolias Born on the Fourth of July Charlotte's Web
  14. I love that quote, Mexicola! Paul Dano did amazing in the film as well - I wonder what he's up to? Haven't seen him in anything since. I really wish TWBB had won the Oscar that year instead of No Country for Old Men . Magnolia is one of my all time faves too! Definitely an overlooked film and I still love listening to the soundtrack. Have you ever seen Anderson's 'Hard Eight?' Another piece of magic .
  15. Thank You (cover) - Chris Cornell
  16. I hope you get to see it sometime, Frankie! I love Hoffman, although I must admit I've never watched 'Happiness.' I loved him in Doubt and all the various PT Anderson masterworks .
  17. Have you guys seen the film 'Capote' with Philip Seymour Hoffman? I've never read In Cold Blood but I thought Hoffman did a fab job paying Truman and it was interesting to see how his writing of In Cold Blood came about.
  18. Top five I've been listening to lately- The White Rabbits MGMT The Dig Phoenix Band of Skulls
  19. I finished the lovely Lady and the Unicorn last night and am unsure what to pick up next. I'm expecting The Swan Thieves from Amazon as a pretty present next week from my mom, so I'm not sure what to read in the mean time...
  20. I loved There Will Be Blood, Mexicola and Andrea. I never find fault with any PT Anderson though, so I'm a bit biased (oh, except for Punch Drunk Love, ugh). Daniel Day-Lewis is amazingness . Glad you liked Juno, Scarlette! I could watch that one over and over. I watched quite a few West Wing episodes over the weekend and also a guilty pleasure film of mine, Catch and Release . Love Timothy Olyphant.
  21. Ooooh very sparkly and pretty! If it can be played on a multi-region player then it's a very tempting purchase .
  22. Yet another book on my TBR shelf that I hope to get to this year, Noll. I hope you enjoy it! I read just a bit more of The Lady and the Unicorn last night but then the Mentalist came on TV and I was lost forever once Simon Baker walked on the scene .
  23. Love clementines, Charm! I've been having a couple of the small ones almost every day for a couple of weeks now . Right now I've got some pistachios going on my desk here at work. This time of day I get starved!
  24. Whipping up some homemade chicken/veggie soup when I get home. Seems to be a good time for it too since it's going to be so drizzly/snowy out the next few days .
  25. Company I Keep - White Rabbits
