  1. Mexicola, if you ever have the opportunity to pick up Tartt's 'Secret History,' please do! It remains one of my favorites . Readwine, glad you are considering some Kostova now! Both of her works are excellent so you really can't go wrong .
  2. I agree about rather having the DVD with the film cell, Noll. Eclipse and June are not that far off, right?! Thanks for the heads up on the BAFTA awards, Fi! Hopefully it'll be broadcast on cable over here or someone will have it streaming online.
  3. I stopped at Starbucks while I was out today so am enjoying my latte and a petite cranberry orange scone that the barista dude talked me into buying...
  4. Woo-hoo Ben! A most excellent choice - Count of Monte Cristo is one of my all time favorites as well and I'm excited to hear what you think. You will be SO glad you read it after you've finished, believe you me .
  5. Oh lordy, Fi, an Excel spreadsheet comparing all the versions?! I want to cry and sit in awe of the time it took for this to create all at the same time . Thanks for the linkie though, I will study it carefully!
  6. I see salt and vinegar crisps (chips) here in the grocery stores too and get a bag occasionally. I love balsamic vinegar though, especially on my salads. I've also gotten into the habit of putting seasoned rice vinegar on my grilled chicken which is oh-so-yum! Right now for dinner I'm just having a bowl of Corn Flakes with blackberries. I had a big lunch and couldn't be bothered to cook tonight...
  7. Awww, man, Fi! No cheeseburgers?! Now that's just a shame. Why would they tell us Chris was doing a commentary with the cast and then make us all unhappy? Sad . Thanks for the heads-up on the Target DVD. It looks like this one comes with a collectable film cell and an extra disc of footage but not the sneak peek at Eclipse like the Wal-Mart version. Hmmm decisions, decisions!
  8. Okay here are a few of mine, but you guys have to promise that if you ever run into my off-line friends you won't mention that we had this coversation! - Reality TV shows like Big Brother, The Hills and The City - Romantic comedy films - EZ Cheeze (aka spray cheese in a can) - Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends cartoon - Some Katy Perry and 3oh!3 songs - A crazy tween vampire craze that makes me swoon whenever I see certain people with nice necks drinking coffee...
  9. Just finished watching Seinfeld and am about to turn it over to NBC for Olympics coverage.
  10. I started The Blackstone Key last night and managed to squeeze in a few pages tonight when I got home, but now the Olympic coverage is about to start so I doubt I'll get much more in! I am enjoying it so far though. Speaking of plays, Frankie and Kylie, if you haven't read Our Town by Thornton Wilder before, please consider adding it to your lists. It's my favorite play and is just a wonderful work . I've read it numerous times and have seen it on stage twice and never get tired of it.
  11. My lunch - Indian takeout we had today in the office, mmmm .
  12. Sure Shot - Beastie Boys
  13. True! I don't mind waiting the time between when the Historian was published and this one - it was so worth the wait! Have you read either of Donna Tartt's books, Mexicola? I absolutely loved Secret History and was SO disappointed in The Little Friend after waiting for 10 years for it, ugh.
  14. Oh man that's a hard one to answer since I loved both! I think the Swan Thieves would be just a wee bit higher in my book since I have a great love of art, but mostly I loved them both .
  15. Oh good, Mexicola! I think you'll really like this one . I don't remember, have you read The Historian?
  16. Oh man I forgot about Strictly Ballroom! I love that one, Chesil. "Shame on you, Miss Leachman!" I watched Mamet's 'The Spanish Prisoner' last night. One of my all time faves!
  17. A banana and a decaf () Starbucks.
  18. I see you're reading Heretic's Daughter, Charm, yay!! I'm hoping to get this one soon - you'll have to let me know what you think.
  19. I finished The Swan Thieves yesterday and posted my thoughts. I decided to read The Blackstone Key by Rose Melikan next and am hoping to get a chunk read tonight, providing I don't fall asleep since I was up at 5 this morning .
  20. Boy with a Coin - Iron & Wine

USA is up 3-0 now and it's in between the 2nd and 3rd periods. Switzerland's had all the penalties so far! I suppose if the USA doesn't make it to end I would root for Finland .
  22. Great reviews, CW! I feel the same way about the Lost Symbol, and agree with you on the dislike of in BD. The ending definitely could have had a lot more pow, and I adored Edward as well (surprise, surprise) . I don't know if I've asked you this before, but have you read the 260+ pages of Midnight Sun?
  23. The Swan Thieves by Elizabeth Kostova Synopsis: Psychiatrist Andrew Marlowe has a perfectly ordered life
  24. It's Pancake Day?! I had no idea! Is this a UK thing? Well, I approve . Yummy lemon-y chicken and artichokes are waiting for me at home tonight for dinner...
  25. Flipping between Bones and Olympics coverage .
