I managed to read a few pages of Swan Thieves this morning before work but just got home so hopefully will squeeze more in before bed tonight. I also just received a late birthday present of a Barnes & Noble gift card so I'm excited to spend it this weekend!

Excellent tune, Stephanie! That guy is from a town about an hour away from me . I Know What I Am - Band of Skulls
-
Stephenkingman, I've also read both 1984 and Animal Farm and loved them both. So very thought-provoking and definitely books everyone should read IMO .
-
I agree, Bonnie is interesting and her character gets more fleshed out in future episodes which I like since she's got a great background .
-
Hello and welcome to BCF, Kayla! Glad you joined us. I'm a big fan of historical fiction as well so I look forward to some recommendations.
-
Not wrong at all, Stephanie! Damon is 'massively hot' and keeps getting moreso if that's even possible, hee-hee!
-
Great bunch of books you picked up there, Frankie! And 'From Dante to Dickens' does sound amazing! Nice work . Does the BF let you wear his new Kyle Busch shirt? It's a snazzy one indeed :D.

Emmerdale is about sheep?! I've often seen that advertised on BBC America and public TV here but I've not watched it. Vampire Diaries is on Thursdays here and so far I think we're on episode 14. It definitely gets more interesting as the show goes on, guys! I know you'll like it .

Lady and the Unicorn is my fave Chevalier, Noll, so I'm excited to got it! I just finished re-reading it again a few weeks ago . I only managed a few pages of The Swan Thieves last night since I had lots of stuff to do at home and then had to hit the hay early since I was up at 5 this morning. It's still very enjoyable though. I hope you like it Cosychair!

What have you been watching at the cinema? (Cont..)

I saw 'A Serious Man' again over the weekend and found more parts to laugh at, surprisingly! Such a lovely film . -
Excellent job on all the books read so far, Charm! I just got Guilty Pleasures for a birthday present last night and I'm excited to read it. A friend of mine who I turned on to Kelley Armstrong bought it for me - yet another series to read! Are they all about vampires, Fi?
-
Woo for The Historian, Steeeeve! Excellent book . I got about halfway through The Swan Thieves over the weekend and am enjoying it muchly. I'm really curious as to how it's going to end! I also received Laurell K. Hamilton's Guilty Pleasures as a late birthday present from a friend last night at dinner so I'm excited to see what all the fuss is about with this series.

I read bunches of The Swan Thieves last night but surprisingly am only about a 1/3 of the way through! I was taking my time reading though because there's such great detail about paintings, etc. Love it!
-
Good idea, Nicola, why waste time trying to decide between them?! I'm all in favor of a Damon/Stefan sandwich .
-
Even though I didn't love No Country for Old Men, Mexicola, that's something I definitely appreciated about the film - the landscape and scenery. It was a quiet movie, if you know what I mean. I recognized a lot of place in Fargo too, except truly we don't have that strong of accents here!
-
I loved 'A Serious Man,' Mexicola! Another excellent work from the Coen's, plus I actually recognized some places in the filmed since it was made here last spring . I hope you get to see it soon. I agree about Moon. Sam Rockwell was so great in it and it's too bad that some films just get passed over like that. I would have to agree with you on District 9, Kylie, I loved it. I thought Sharlto Copley did a fantastic job and for the smallish budget (compared to other big sci-fi blockbusters) the efx were great.

I'm in Nicola's boat - can't seem to make up my mind which Salvatore I like more! I started out as strictly on Team Stefan but Damon has looked better and better to me .
-
Good idea, Noll! I've got Strange on my shelf to TBR. How are you finding it?
-
I'm absolutely loving it, Scarlette! I'm only a fraction of the way in but there's lots of lovely facts on art and mythology so far, and the first section is set in Washington, DC so it's really interesting for me. Not to mention the fact that I love Kostova's writing style. I hope you get to read it soon!
-
I'm excited for you guys to see more eps! It's a fun show and I love the Salvatore brothers .
-
I loved The Secret History Dan! Great book . I read up to chapter 10 last night in The Swan Thieves, which is just up to about page 60. I love it so far and can't wait to read more .
-
Ditto to what Kimmy said! It gets uber-intriguing for sure! I've only read the first book but a friend tells me that a lot of what's happened in the episodes isn't even in the book so they must really be padding the story. I really like watching every week though .

I haven't seen Avatar and don't intend to since it's not really my kind of film, but from what I've heard it's well worthy of technical awards it's nom'd for but Best Picture? Not really. I loved District 9 so I'm glad to see it get nominated since it was ignored during the Golden Globes. I'm disappointed that Sharlto Copley didn't get nominated for it for best actor, but was glad to see Jeff Bridges get a nod. I'm also excited for Coen's nomination with A Serious Man and hope they win! I still need to see Precious, An Education, The Hurt Locker and A Single Man (I think that's the title). Oh and Up in the Air! How could I forget the talented Mr. Reitman?! Thanks Mexicola for starting this thread, BTW. Have you seen A Serious man yet?
-
I love Chabon, Steeeve, and hope you like the Kavalier and Clay! I only managed to read the first 2 chapters of The Swan Thieves last night before drifting off, but I love it so far! Kostova is quite the master let me tell you! I also started listening to The Book of Old Houses by Sarah Graves yesterday in my car.

I second the rec of Big Bang Theory - it's hilarious! By far my fave show. The Mentalist is also very good, as is The Office and Flight of the Conchords. If you can see any reruns or rent DVDs, I also absolutely love Arrested Development and Weeds, which are both great comedies IMO. Hope you find something you like, BJ!
