  1. Ewww, the salad would probably get all wilt-y if you poured hot gravy all over it.
  2. Well, we were in heaven while eating it! Oh, and your previous post was lacking gravy, Rawr. What's happened to you?!
  3. We had the best french toast in the world at this tiny little restaurant in Plymouth, Massachusetts a few years ago. It was made out of fritter bread and sprinkled with powdered sugar. OMG we were in heaven!
  4. Ohhhh WOW! Thanks for the visual . They are kind of shaped like a calzone, but they look all crunchy on the outside. Yum!
  5. Not until I started coming on BCF had I heard of savory waffles or pancakes. Before that the only way I had them were sweet with syrup poured all over them. Also can't forget pancake's and waffle's step-sibling, french toast! Also sweet and yummy with syrup. I have had Latkes at Jewish delis however, and those are sort of a potato pancake, so I guess I could say I've heard of them . I'm trying to imagine this pancake stuffed with things though, Ned. Are they round? Are they more like a calzone? For some reason I can't see a pancake stuffed with chicken and cheese in my head .
  6. I hope you like the Sookie books, Kylie! I need to get back on board and finish the series - I've got the 3rd one waiting for me. Lucas is very nice, Charm! You finished Kiss of Evil rather quickly, huh? Sounds like your mojo is back in biz . Mexicola, I'm sorry your not shouting about Remarkable Creatures yet. I hope it picks up for you! I only got in a chapter of Dime Store Magic last night before falling asleep with the light on. I was up at 5am yesterday so I guess I'm not surprised I faded away so early .
  7. We clearly need to have a BCF shindig out on the east coast so we can all bond . Will your pad hold everyone, Bethany? And how far are you from the ginormous B&N? OMG I hope they sell Starbucks!
  8. Forty Six and Two - Tool
  9. Do you think they'll mind us doing that in the world's largest book store there in NYC, Bethany?! I've always wanted to visit that Barnes & Noble and have been kicking myself ever since I came out there and neglected to go. I loved the Haddon! Such an excellent book - I can't wait for you to read it .
  10. Woohoo for finishing The Big Over Easy and starting Stolen, Catwoman! Two excellent reads I must say . I hope you get to read the other Nursery Crime book soon, The Fourth Bear. I have it waiting on my shelf as well. I can't recall Kylie, but have you read the Sookie books before? I read just a bit when I came home today and am now halfway through Dime Store Magic. Hope to get a good chunk in before bed tonight.
  11. I agree! Throw in some Rage songs and you have heaven right there. Dusty - Soundgarden
  12. Awww lovely tune . Kickstand - Soundgarden
  13. Finishing the last of my taboulleh salad tonight, and if I do say so it was an exceptionally good batch! My grandparents would be proud .
  14. Rusty Cage - Soundgarden
  15. I think what made The Little Friend especially painful, at least for me, was that I had waited so long for Tartt's second release after having read and loved The Secret History back in '93. Ten years later The Little Friend comes walking along and ugh, such a let down!
  16. Killing in the Name - RATM
  17. That's a fabulous idea, Frankie! By the time Charm gets to New England I'll be there too, then you can move here! No matter where you live, all four of us will be within driving distance, see? Perfect .
  18. Jesus Christ Pose - Soundgarden
  19. Awww Luke! He's such a cutie . Kylie, do you have the big box set they put out a couple years ago? It reminds me of a Barbie case because it's white and puffy and has a handle on top . I just wondered if with that complete series set they added more extras? I love seeing outtakes though, I think those are my fave kinds of extras to watch, and I can see how all those guys would be hilarious!
  20. It's kind of a painful relationship to watch sometimes! And with most shows, there are a handful of episodes that I just can't figure out what the writers were trying to accomplish. But, the good episodes are ohhhh so excellent! There aren't many pop culture references that I don't get, but I bet it would be cool for you guys not from here! Like you were part of some inside joke or something .
  21. Lots of great titles on your list there, Stephanie! Ditto the books that Frankie highlighted, plus the Mortons and Orwell. Terrific reading you have ahead of you!
  22. Well you could always just come for a visit, Charm Like Sirinrob said, Fforde is a bit of crime/fantasy, and I would start with The Eyre Affair. He's so clever with his words, and hilarious! I think he's the only author where I actually laugh out loud when I read him. I think you should give him a try .
  23. Oh no, Charm! I hate it when that happens too . Listen to Bethany - you'll be fine . I read a bit of Dime Store Magic last night before bed and just about halfway through now, with more to be done tonight!
  24. Recommendations are the best, Poppy! Since I've read both of Tartt's books I'll be completely honest with you so I hope you don't mind . I thought Secret History was far and away superior to The Little Friend. In fact I seem to remember taking the time to write out a list of all the things I didn't like about Little Friend. Who knows though, you might have completely different taste than me!
  25. I'm looking forward to the titles below, and hopefully there'll be more to add! Remarkable Creatures - Tracy Chevalier The Swan Thieves - Elizabeth Kostova Shades of Grey - Jasper Fforde
