I think all readers go through a stage of binge-reading a certain genre. And a lot of crime/thriller writers are female so it's most likely co-incidence.

Hmm... I don't know that the NG or Voyager totally broke away from the canon before becoming canon, TBH. I guess I just don't trust modern writers to do ST properly if they don't break away. They made a right mess of most of the recent reboots.

I think I've worked out why I don't enjoy Jay's dances. He has nothing in his face. He's almost as Stepford Wife as DoD. Darcey hit the nail on the head. And it's a shame because he has everything he needs to be a great dancer. He should be the next Louis Smith. But ... the lights on and there's no-one home. Compare him to Kelly. She shows all the acting and emotion in her face. Even when she's exhausted, she puts some character into it that it's great fun to watch. Even some of the non-actors put more life into it.
