  1. Finished Love All the People. I'd read it before, but I'd lent it to a chum ages ago, and got it back at the weekend.

It's a bit repetitive at times, but it shows how Bill Hicks shaped his act.

I don't know if I'm looking forward to the forth coming biopic or not.

Started Doors Open by Ian Rankin, so far I'm finding it dull. I'll stick with it awhile and see if it improves. I'm not sure whether its the subject matter or whether I've been too tainted by Rebus. I'd hate to think I'd never read another Rankin book.

  2. Since I joined this forum I was shocked at how much I'd forgotten. I started keeping a reading journal just so that I'd have a record of what I'd read.

I've started reading books and got that reading deja vu.

I thought it was an age thing.

And I think that your OH has a very valid point. It makes me feel much better anyway.

I'm doing well to remember my name, number and that Gordon Brown is still Prime Minister.:D

    He is isn't he??

  3. Um lets see I would buy the little dude on the bicycle in the SAW movies as well as the head trap.

AND a whole outfit that Eric has worn in True Blood(its not a movie I know, but..)

Would you be trying to clone Eric's DNA for your own sordid ends, Denise?

  4. If they were auctioning your must have movie memorabilia, what would you buy?

It could be a car; a costume; something specific to a favourite movie, or sign scripts etc.

That sounded so much simpler in my head.

    Anyway, I'd go for;

the snow globe from Citizen Kane

    Ripley's gun from Aliens

    Bogarts Mac.

Gene Kelly's umbrella from Singing in the Rain.

  5. I love Mr Carlyle in anything!

Although I love his Lecter, I think Brian Cox should take the crown ~ 'Manhunter' captures his intelligence and charm in a way that the later films didn't quite achieve.

You're absolutely right Chrissy. It's been a long time since I watched it, I'd forgotten how good he was.

  6. Robert Carlyle as Welsh's monstrous Begbie in Trainspotting.

Antony Hopkins did a superb job as Hannibal Lecter.

    Christian Bale in American psycho.

I don't always think its a problem with the actors abilities, they are just miscast.

When I think about how many novels are adapted into screenplays, this could be a very long thread. :D

  7. I just caught up with this show by accident.

Written by and starring the brilliant Julia Davies and Jessica Hynes. It's about two women who seek vengeance on their selfish, philandering husbands.

It's on late on BBC 2 on Saturday night, but available on catch up or Iplayer.

If you like dark comedy, or you were a fan of Nighty Night, you'll like it.

  8. Black Books - "Bernard: No! I think if you're, you know, going to give the guy pencils for drinking his wine, you're talking about, you know, magic pencils. You draw a cow, the cow comes to life! Those kind of things." :D

Comedy doesn't get much better than Black Books.

  9. This is a book that's been on my shelf for years, and I'd never gotten round to it until now. It's a really old copy too.

'The novel is a grim tale of adultery, murder and revenge in a nightmarish setting. A thriller and as L.W. Tancock says in his introduction, a cautionary tale on the sixth and seventh commandments, this early novel of Zola's is full of black macabre poetry which has kept its tragic power for over a century'.

I really loved this book. It's imagery played on my mind in a way that few modern novels do. It's like Irvine Welsh in 19th Century France.

The novel caused a furore when it was first published and was accused of being pornographic and I can still see why.

If its on your tbr list. Bump it up.

  10. 1) I often see friends in my dreams ~ they pass through Hitchcock like.

    2) Whenever I think of my son (which is often), I have a simultaneous pang of missing him (he's north and I'm South) and intense pride ~ he's a blindingly lovely guy. :D

    3) I love my car because it's the only space that I've ever felt belongs to me, and me alone.

    4) When our dog and two cats die, we will not get others. They mean too much to us and are also a real tie, albeit a wonderful tie.

    5) I love walking boots, and much prefer them to heels.

I haven't replaced my dog or my cats since their sad demise. I just felt I'd

never get one's that I loved as much. I miss having pets around the place, particularly on curry night when there's no furry hooligan begging spicy prawns.

That said, in a couple of years we're moving further north to buy a small holding and that to me means menagerie.

    I can't wait!:)

  11. It's not a quote it's a parenting technique. Sort of Mary Poppins on crack.

Along the lines of 'if you don't stop running round in circles I'll nail your other foot to the floor'.

  12. Is your signature form Buffy?

Muntax is a name from Norfolk. There's a taxi firm called Mundford Taxi's - we shortened it to Muntax 'cos it sounded so cool and post-apocalyptic.

    Aaaah Norfolk. That explains everything.:)

I've never watched the Buffster, so nope.

  13. I love Wall-E. It's become a comfort movie for me of late.

And I adore a beer drinking lady! Even those that have named their as-yet-to-be-even-practised-for children.

To be fair, I'd quite like to meet a lady who doesn't mind the names I've thought up for my future kids - Muntax and Spangle.

One of my guinea pigs is called Spangle. The other is called ASBO.

  14. So you can only drive in a straight line, then? :)

Awesome! This is the work of a clear but cold thinking genius! I love your style, my friend. May I use this tactic, please?

I've eaten all of my Tictacs. :D

I can drive in a straight line if I'm going forwards......I have no sense of direction either!!!!

If you're ever in need of petty vengeances Mac, I have loads. I rarely lose my temper, but life's injustices need counter balance sometimes.

Five years on he still doesn't know it was me. Tee hee.

  15. 1. A woman a work wanted some lily bulbs from me, I don't like her so I planted them upside down.

    2. I'm a good driver but can't manoevre. Much to my eternal shame and the delight of my local garage I got wedged in a tight spot and the mechanics had to get me out. :)

    3. I have size 10 feet. And if I could wear wellies everyday I would!

    4. I have a degree in Theatre and Film, trained as a teacher and have never taught a class since I qualified. I hated it!

    5. A so-called friend and writing partner tried to submit one of my scripts as his own. He sent to someone who already knew me and the script in question. When I found out I put his personal details in a gay contacts mag.

    Revenge is better than Christmas;)

  16. Delicatessen....another forgotten gem.

    Some more on my list;

    The Big Sleep

    Maltese Falcon

    African Queen

    Spartacus

    The Committments

    The Crying Game

How to get Ahead in Advertising

    Withnail and !
