  1. Sad to see if go but I think that's probably the right time, I'd hate it to get stale. I wonder if Jeff Lindsay will continue with the novels.
  2. Mine was from one of my best girl chums to say that 8pm was an ok time to meet up. What was yours?
  3. No, I haven't been calling random tramps, I mean when your mobile phone isn't locked and it calls somebody. Who was the last person you heard shouting from your pocket/bag?
  4. I too am a Dexterette, my lovely son has pre-ordered series 7 for me as part of my Mothers Day pressie. Very excited, brilliant cliffhanger at the end of series six. Few things in life beat a rainy weekend, a Dexter box set and a cup of tea. I've even got a Dexter hoodie. When I set about the slugs and snails with the secateurs we call it Dextering. I'm sure he would approve.
  5. I've just started Birthdays for the Dead. So far, so good. It's everything you love about MacBride, but Loganless. I'm fighting the urge to sack the domestic urgencies (ironing pile like K2, feral dust-bunnies, rancid salad swamp in fridge, etc) and curl up under a blanket reading the latest from the grim, beardy giggler. The king of gallows humour and the safest pair of hands in crime fiction.
  6. Just finished Double Dexter and series 3 is winging its way from the Amazon Overlords as I write. There is righteous slaughter on the breeze, and quite right too!!
  7. James Bond and Mr Bean completely stole the show. Great stuff. On the whole I enjoyed the opening ceremony. Some of it was a bit naff but you can't please everybody. Now we can get on with the sport.
  8. I'm getting quite excited now. I'll be glad when it starts then the media can stop waffling on speculating, and second guessing what MIGHT happen. There's a buzz of excitement in the air. Work was ridiculous last night, everyone getting their BBQ essentials ready for the opening ceremony. It's coincided with a warm spell so there'll be a BBQ frenzy. Who do you want to light the torch??
  9. Thanks Talisman and you're absolutely right. The only thing you CAN change is yourself. I'm determined not to sweat the small stuff today. To get through a shift with no hidden hostility or resentment towards my colleagues, to remain in the moment and conscious. Well, the whole day might be pushing it....will try for ten minutes then keep reminding myself what my plan was when I'm wanting to attack a lazy workmate with my box-cutter.
  10. Much to the amusment of my OH and my son who eat worthy health conscious cereal, today I opted for Sugar Puffs and a banana and a big latte.
  11. Ooh fun topic Popps. I've never read or seen Lord of the Rings I've never been to a gym. I've never had a manny/pedi I've never been ice-skating I've never eaten marmite. I've never worn stilletos I've never watched CSI I've never played conkers I've never used an iphone I've never put petrol in my car
  12. I've just had a look at the website and its seems interesting. I might give it a whirl. Having said that as a dedicated Michael Moore fan, and having read No Logo by Naomi Klein, just create in me a futile rage and intense apathy. Whilst the wealth is owned by 1% who aren't subject to our laws or morals, what can I do? Protests don't work. Lobbying doesn't work...politicians are either all crooked or in the pockets of the decision/money makers. Multi-nationals paying lip service to green issues and recycling, that's a joke. All I can do is fume quietly, plant my veggies and scream obsceneties at the TV, before they cart me off to a care home that my son's inheritance will be paying for.
  13. I am of the same opinion, if everybody adhered to the Coffin Nail handbook that the world would be a fantastic place. My OH informed me that meglamaniacs and facist dictators are also of the same opinion. I haven't had him killed yet, but I've informed the secret police about his wrong-thinking.
  14. Hi, and welcome to the forum. I read New Earth a couple of years ago and I found it invaluable. I try to adhere to the lesson it has taught me, but its no easy task. All the negative interactions in life are ego related, I know that to be true, but trying to live by Tolle's principles whilst dealing with the day-to-day negative energy created by others who don't care about 'the now' is a life long quest. In a consumer society that is solely focussed on the attainment of stuff and the notion of ' me first', this book should be required reading.
  15. Too true Frankie. I got bored with Post Mortem and started to read Slaughters' Fallen instead. I usually really love her Will Trent novels, but I'm not enamoured with this one. Its still better than average though.
  16. I've tried to read the Scarpetta novels a few times and never really got into them. I thought perhaps it's because as usual I jumped into the middle of the series. Perhaps I'd take to them if I read them in order. So I got Post-Mortem from the library on my last visit. Early days yet. Not made up my mind.
  17. My lovely son bought me season 1 on Blu-ray, so I can finally see how he started. Seems very like the books, Michael C Hall is perfect casting. He's very Dexter. Throws up some very interesting questions for the reader/viewer. Is he the epitome of the anti-hero? Is he righteous avenging angel or socio-pathic monster? Does anyone read Dexter because they want him to get caught? Or like me, they always want him to get away with what he's doing, and kill as many scumbags as possible. Sideing with the anti-hero always has its moral ambiguities for the reader/viewer, but all the more joyful for it. :D
  18. Dinner for Schmucks. Not on the worst list, but not on the best list either.
  19. Not according to Ian Rankin. According to the BBC website he revealed his plans at Hay. He said that there was unfinished business for Rebus and that he would appear in the next novel. My cynical mind suggests that Rankin's sales figures are down so including Rebus alongside his new creation will appeal to the fan base.
  20. That's right fans of grumpy, Scottish detectives everywhere. Rankin has resurrected Rebus for his new novel, published next November. After reading Rankin's books since Rebus retired, it was only a matter of time.
  21. I just ordered Adele 21 (I must be the only woman in the country who doesn't yet have a copy.) And I've just replaced my vinyl copy of Violent Femmes/Violent Femmes for a CD.
  22. Oooh a lovely addition to my list. The world is always rosier after some righteous, violent slaughter Thanks Frankie.
  23. Eat, Pray, Love. Not my usual choice of genre, but I enjoy a girlie movie every now and again.
