  1. Oh, that sucks! :(

You are right. They shouldn't have pre-sale tickets. Bon Jovi is from the state I grew up in, by the way. New Joyyyysey.

  2. I do not like any of the ads for free credit report dot com. Every single ditty they come up with is so annoying. :D
  3. Just stopped by to say hello and I hope you are feeling better. :friends0:

  4. I wish I could, but I have a bit of a headache, and if I read too much, it will only get worse. I was just thinking, this is actually a great book to read for Halloween.
  5. A couple chapters into The Book of Lost Things and I am already loving it.
  6. Now I am really interested. Going to read now!
  7. Once upon a time - for that is how all stories should begin - there was a boy who lost his mother. The Book of Lost Things by John Connolly
  8. Well, frankly, many of the Grimm and Andersen fairy tales in their original form were not children's stories.
  9. Well, I love fairy tales. I have the complete Brother's Grimm and the complete Hans Christian Andersen collections, and I have heard that this book references fairy tales. So I am already excited about delving into Connolly's book.
  10. Regrettably, I had to put down The Lions of Al-Rassan for the time being. I am not sure if it is because I am distracted by this forum (which is not a problem, I will settle in), or there are too many characters with similar names and it is confusing, or if I am just not in the mood for this book at the moment. It may be a combination of all three. In any case, I don't hate it. I just haven't been grasping what I am reading. I could either start over, or return to this novel later. I choose the latter. So on to the next book, The Book of Lost Things.
  11. You can ship me off to bed, but I will probably end up propped up on my pillows, reading.

  12. *prepares to chillax*
  13. A Christmas Carol is a great one! If you are looking for something funny, you could try The Stupidest Angel by Christopher Moore.
  14. Thank you so much, everyone, for the recommendations. I just purchased Night Train by the Oscar Peterson Trio, Time Out by the Dave Brubeck Quartet, and Midwinter Graces, the new Christmas CD by Tori Amos. They won't arrive until mid-November, but I got the free shipping on amazon.com. Looking forward to expanding my jazz listening experiences.
  15. You're welcome! Yes, everyone really is friendly and yes, it IS addictive.

  16. I hope this is the proper forum to post this in. I searched, and did not see a similar thread, so I thought I would start this one. This is my favorite forum game. The rules are simple. Each person can only post five words at a time of an on-going story. Be serious if you want, be humorous if you so desire. I give bonus points for alliteration, although the points won't buy you anything except my appreciation. Here we go: The melancholy murderer mauled many...
  17. Mark Helprin is who comes to mind when I think "obscure". He has written very few novels, I can count them on one hand. Each one is very different from the other, but his poetic prose is always breathtaking. It flows, and you find yourself wanting to underline passages and savor them in contemplation. He also has three collections of short stories, and these are just as fine as his novels. There is only one book of his I have not yet read. For anyone that is interested, here is a listing of his works. Novels: Refiner's Fire (The one I have not read) Winter's Tale A Soldier of the Great War (his best, in my opinion) Memoir From Antproof Case Freddy and Fredricka Short Story Collections: A Dove of the East and Other Stories Ellis Island and Other Stories The Pacific and Other Stories
  18. That is the direction I am heading in, and I can't do it. I have IBS, and if I don't get my sleep, it's savagery will take over. The beast requires sleep and as little stress as possible for it to be tamed.

  19. I have, but the only one I remember is A Swiftly Tilting Planet. (I believe that was the name.) The sequels didn't impress me as much as the first.
  20. Yes, I got the PM, thank you. I am enjoying this forum immensely, except it's keeping me from my reading. :motz::lol:

I am sure I will find a happy medium once I settle in and get used to things, though.

  21. :friends0:Hello, new friend.

  22. Cool deal! I am a new Dean Koontz fan, and have a lot to read, so I will ad this one to my list.
  23. Not a problem. Laugh if you will but I discovered my love for piano jazz by watching Peanuts and then buying the soundtrack. Vince Guaraldi is a brilliant jazz pianist. Most people don't realize that all those Peanut episodes have jazz music playing in the background. :D

  24. Thank you so much! I will look into all of these.
  25. I have recently discovered a love for piano jazz. Could you recommend me something, as I don't really have a clue what to look for.
