  1. I hope you don't mind me voicing my opinion here (you don't know me), but I have read Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? and I highly recommend it. It will take you on a wild ride where reality is never as it seems. Philip K. Dick is a master of unexpected twists and turns.
  2. It was just past midday, not long before the third summons to prayer, that Ammar ibn Khairan passed through the Gate of the Bells and entered the palace of Al-Fontina in Silvenes to kill the last of the khal-ifs of Al-Rassan. The Lions of Al-Rassan- Guy Gavriel Kay
  3. I have read two chapters of The Lions of Al-Rassan by Guy Gavriel Kay. Today has not been productive in terms of reading. I usually read between 100 to 150 pages in a day, when I am not working.
  4. Alas, though, my bursts of wit are few and far between. ;)

  5. Thank you for adding me as a friend. :)

  6. Yes, the movie starred Jack Nicholson and a number of other pretty well known actors. Danny De Vito was one and Christopher Lloyd was another, I think.
  7. Thanks for the welcome. Enjoy the Heinlein! That one is, arguably, his best work.
  8. A good book is like a good friend. Both are valuable to me, so I like to visit with them as much as possible. A book I don't like I either sell or donate to the library. It might be a good friend to someone else.
  9. Thank you thank you and thank you! I hope that covered everyone.
  10. Thanks for the more welcomes!
  11. A Canticle for Leibowitz by Walter Miller Earth Abides by George Stewart The Road by Cormac McCarthy
  12. The Girl in a Swing by Richard Adams. I can't say why, because that would give the plot away. I would like to add that I don't get disturbed easily. I have read many King, Poe, Bradbury, Lovecraft, etc. stories, and while I enjoyed some, the book I mentioned is the only one that has ever haunted me after reading it. Real life is more disturbing than fiction.
  13. My favorites are The Door Into Summer, The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, Stranger in a Strange Land, and Time Enough For Love. The first is a time travel book, without the time travel paradox. You will see what I mean if you read it. The second is a book about rebellion against oppressive government. The third contains everything you need to know, and not know, about religion. LOL The last features Lazarus Long, Heinlein's most interesting character. He's an ass, but my type of guy.
  14. I've read a lot of Heinlein. The book is far better than the movie, I will say that.
  15. Hmmm, I can't speak for all females, but yeah, I don't generally go for that type. I have read Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card, which I loved, and I have The Mote in God's Eye by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle, still to be read, which I am pretty sure has a military feel to it. I also liked Starship Troopers by Heinlein, although it wasn't one of my favorites of his. So, I am not adverse to it, but it's not what I usually go for.
  16. I am exactly 999 years old. Hoping to make it to the big three oh.
  17. Hey, well, my taste in books might suck.
  18. Thank you. Looking forward to see what you might suggest as well.
  19. I adore Patricia McKillip. Her books make me feel like I am literally falling into a fairy tale. Thanks for the welcome.
  20. I like almost any type of music. Even one or two rap and country songs. But my two favorite bands are: Porcupine Tree and Rush I also love Tori Amos, Arcade Fire, Coldplay, Dishwalla, Death Cab For Cutie, The Decemberists, Duran Duran, Flaming Lips, Peter Gabriel, Dave Matthews Band, Modest Mouse, Mozart, No Man, The Pixies, Radiohead, The Shins, Tool, Toad the Wet Sprocket, Wilco, XTC, and Frank Zappa.
  21. Thank you!
  22. Some of his best! Dandelion Wine is a bit different than Bradbury's other works, but surprisingly good. A light-hearted romp through a small town in middle-America, told through the eyes of an exuberant 12 year old boy. I hope you enjoyed Something Wicked This Way Comes. That has always been my favorite Bradbury book.
  23. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is the only one I have read. An excellent read, and has a lot more to offer than the movie did.
  24. Thank you for the welcome. Which Ray Bradbury are you reading, if I may ask? I have read most of his books.
  25. Thank you both for the welcome!
