  1. Welcome, Amika. I love sci-fi and fantasy as well.
  2. You are correct! I guess it is your turn now.
  3. Thank you! And I forgot to mention the author, who is Joseph Conrad. Hmmm, I think people should be able to get this one. I was an up and coming musician from the USA. I wasn't a very nice guy. It took a terrible tragedy of world wide proportions for me to discover the good in myself and work towards being a better person. Who am I?
  4. Lord Jim? Is that you?
  5. I certainly will. I love the Broadway play, but the book always looked intimidating, as it is so long. I finally decided to take the plunge into its depths.
  6. I just purchased Les Miserables (unabridged) by Victor Hugo and The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. Shhhh, don't tell anyone.
  7. Enshrouded everything within eyes that...
  8. The reading woman sits by the window, lamplight falling over her shoulder onto the book. Memory and Dream by Charles De Lint
  9. I just finished False Memory by Dean Koontz. My next read will be Memory and Dream by Charles De Lint.
  10. Oh, I am definitely a born reader. The first book I remember loving, I was around 4 or 5 years old, was One Fish, Two Fish...Red Fish, Blue Fish by Dr. Seuss.
  11. Wonderful review. This is a nice idea, but good luck getting me to read it, as I avoid almost every non-fiction book. Is this perhaps a 'symptom' that could be discussed?
  12. Here are five more about me: 1. I have emetophobia (fear of vomiting) 2. I have a cat named Ulysses (I didn't name him, though) 3. I am not a true believer in anything, although I try to believe in myself. 4. I love collecting anything to do with unicorns 5. My boyfriend reminds me of a pirate. Yarrrrrrrrrr!
  13. House of Leaves by Mark Danielewski. It looks very interesting, but also a book that I will have to give all of my focus to. Also The Iliad and The Odyssey by Homer.
  14. False Memory is ok, but there have been other books by Dean Koontz that I have enjoyed more. I like a lot of different authors. Ray Bradbury, Mark Helprin, Patricia McKillip, Robin Hobb, Tom Robbins...just to name a few. I have no idea what the square root of that number is. :D

Thank you! I hope you are well also. :D

  15. I thought of another book that might fit your criteria. I haven't read it myself, but it is on my bookshelf and my favorite book of all time is by the same author. It's called Lord Byron's Novel: The Evening Land by John Crowley. Here is the synopsis on the back of the book: ...John Crowley imagines the novel the haunted Romantic poet Lord Bryon never penned...but very well might have. Saved from destruction, read, and annotated by Byron's own abandoned daughter, Ada, the manuscript is rediscovered in our time - and almost not recognized. This is the story of a dying daughter's attempt to understand the famous father she longed for - and the young woman who, by learning the secret of Byron's manuscript and Ada's devotion, reconnects with her own father, driven from her life by a crime as terrible as any of which Byron himself was accused.
  16. I am about halfway through False Memory and it's putting me to sleep. It started out well, but now the author keeps on covering the same ground over and over again. I get it already! The plot also seems predictable, but maybe there will be an unexpected twist that I haven't foreseen. This is the worst I have read by Koontz so far. I hope the ending will make it all worthwhile.
  17. Chrissy, thank you for your response. At the moment, I don't think I will look into any more of Jasper Fforde's work. One of my main issues with the book is that I felt no connection to the character of Thursday Next, and if I don't connect to characters, I generally am no longer interested in reading further. Last five books I read and my ratings, five being the highest: The Book of Lost Things by John Connolly - 4 stars Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte - 5 stars The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde - 1 star The Color of Magic by Terry Pratchett - 3 stars One For the Money by Janet Evanovich - 2 stars Next ten books I will be reading: Memory and Dream by Charles De Lint The Birthday of the World and Other Stories by Ursula Le Guin Lord Jim by Joseph Conrad The Darkest Evening of the Year by Dean Koontz The Ivory and the Horn by Charles De Lint Solaris by Stanislaw Lem Lord Byron's Novel by John Crowley Darkfall by Dean Koontz Jack of Kinrowan by Charles De Lint One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez I am going to do an actual review of the Dean Koontz book I am currently reading. There are things I like about the book, and things that I don't, so it should be fun putting all of my thoughts down in review form.
  18. I have a Mark Twain book that I have had for over 10 years that I haven't read. I think it's called The Lesser Known Writings of Mark Twain or something like that. It looks sort of interesting, but is not really in novel or short story format, so that is why I always put it off.
  19. I should clarify what I said. I can read when under stress, but I would get through about 50 pages and not remember one word. I also tend to veg in front of the telly when stressed.
  20. Thank you for adding me as a friend. :D

  21. I know how you feel in regards to the baby shower. I avoid weddings and things of that nature like the plague. And you are correct, we can be anonymous at concerts. I do enjoy hanging out with one or two friends, as long as I know I can trust them, but everyone is too friendly at parties, weddings, and baby showers.
  22. I actually can't concentrate on a book when I am under stress.
  23. Hmmm, I don't even know if there are five facts about me. Let me try. 1. My favorite past time is reading. 2. I don't enjoy small social gatherings like parties, but I do enjoy larger gatherings, like concerts. 3. My favorite band is Porcupine Tree 4. I am bi-sexual. 5. I love animals, even the ugly ones like armadillos.
