We watched Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang. I liked the first Nanny McPhee film, but this second one just seemed a bit too far fetched, even for a kids movie
Can it get anymore far fetched? My kids loved the first Nanny McPhee, I hated it and fell asleep. Even Colin Firth could not keep me awake. They wanna see the next one, but I am hoping that there will be other movies to watch instead!

I'd never read a parody book before either, CW, and I loved it! Honestly, I kept wondering how they came up with some of the jokes. It was hilarious! I need to find a copy to have for my own since I'd love to read it again
.
Ok, you have convinced me, on my wishlist.
Ok so I have been back on here five minutes and have added four books to my wishlist.

His first in the Insp.Banks series is 'Gallow's View', and it probably wold be better to read then in sequence so that you have the background of some of the returning characters. Peter Robinson
ETA Catwoman ~ I really like them. They are not outlandish crimes with the criminal brought to justice through flukes or a ridiculous and beyond belief maverick :)cop, but a series of taut and beleivable stories with well rounded characters.
Thanks for the Info. I have added his first book to my wishlist.

I am a big Peter Robinson fan Frankie. 'Aftermath' is one from a long series of his Inspector Alan Banks. He is one of the few writers I have come across with a series where the latest book is as good as the first, and all the ones in between. So many writers lose their way during a series, but not Mr Robinson!
This sounds interestin do you think I would like it Chrissy?
I finished Nemesis by Jo Nesbo, and started The City & The City by China Meiville, so far so good.
I have Jo Nesbo's first book on my Library pile and will be reading it really soon
Kylie - what did you think of the Hinton? I so enjoyed the Outsiders
.
Cali - you MUST move the Twilight Parody up a buncha notches in your TBR pile! It's so hilarious, I was practically falling out of my chair!
While the forum was being moved, I finished The Last Witchfinder by James Morrow, and started Topics About Which I Know Nothing by Patrick Ness.
I don't normally read Parody books but if it is funny I might well do.

#22: SkullDuggery Pleasant: Derek Landy
Synopsis
Meet the great Skulduggery Pleasant: wise-cracking detective, powerful magician, master of dirty tricks and burglary (in the name of the greater good, of course). Oh yeah. And dead. Then there's his sidekick, Stephanie. She's! well, she's a twelve-year-old girl. With a pair like this on the case, evil had better watch out! "So you won't keep anything from me again?" He put his hand to his chest. "Cross my heart and hope to die." "Okay then. Though you don't actually have a heart," she said. "I know." "And technically, you've already died." "I know that too." "Just so we're clear." Stephanie's uncle Gordon is a writer of horror fiction. But when he dies and leaves her his estate, Stephanie learns that while he may have written horror, it certainly wasn't fiction. Pursued by evil forces intent on recovering a mysterious key, Stephanie finds help from an unusual source -- the wisecracking skeleton of a dead wizard. When all hell breaks loose, it's lucky for Skulduggery that he's already dead. Though he's about to discover that being a skeleton doesn't stop you from being tortured, if the torturer is determined enough. And if there's anything Skulduggery hates, it's torture! Will evil win the day? Will Stephanie and Skulduggery stop bickering long enough to stop it? One thing's for sure: evil won't know what's hit it.

Ok so I really liked this book, my son wanted to read this, so I decided to read it before hand. I found it such a different type of idea. It starts of with the lead character Stephanie finding out that her beloved Uncle has died. I found the chapter about the reading of the will was hillarious. It then is a non stop rollercoaster, with fantastic characters and oneliners.
The style of writing reminds me of Percy jackson and the lightening thief, with the same tempo and the same feel of the unbelieveable being the believable.
Stephanie is a thoroughly mordern heroine. A 12 year old with an independant streak yet with compassion and empathy.
I don't know why but in my mind I always felt like it was set in the like it was a scene in dick tracy, haha. Maybe because of Skullduggery's hat.
9/10

Thank you everyone.

I bought the first one in the series in a charity shop for 50p. It is on my mount TBR Everest, but looking forward to reading it.

Aw, it is a shame that you had to put aside the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, I loved the book after page 275. It went so fast and the second book is amazing. But I can understand how boring it can be, I remember nearly giving up myself.

A lot of the radio stations I think are going to be stopped, along with the BBC website to be cut down. and also things to do with the Iplayer. I have heard that alot of the series will also be stopped, and new shows will not be made.
There are lots of shows I can't stand, and I am not a huge TV watcher. But While I had my kids at home with me Pre school I found that some of the CBEEBIES programmes were fantastic for my kids and for an hour before betime it was lovely to have an hour in front of the Tv watching shows that other countries would be envious of.
Also after traveling alot I still find our BBC news to be by far the best. Alot of news channels around the world are so bias and judgemental that I find it hard to watch, with the BBC I find that ok there may be times where facts are not exactly right but are far better at stating the facts than other channels. For example Sky.
If I am right even though BBC funding will be cut our TV licence will stay the same, even though some politians have stated that if the funding cuts so should the TV licence.
*Edit* There does look like there could be a cut in the TV licence.

I finished the second Percy Jakson book on Saturday and I love the series!
Gret news to hear he has a new series coming out!
-
Guess what I just bought...... the Journal Of Impossible Things!!
It comes with a silly sonic screwdriver pen and Master's ring - but hey, better silly extras than lacking anything!! Squee!!
My son will love that. I will most likely be getting him that for Xmas.
Thanks for the link.

Ok so this was a link from the comedian Rufus Hound on my twitter a while ago.

Please please please can you sign the petition. It is free and will only take a few seconds.
Even if you do not like a lot of the BBCs shows or channels I think most people have at least one show or memory that would warrent a few clicks of support.
Think of all the Dr Who episodes made by the BBC, CBEEBIES and CBBC for the kids and the parents who watch alike. For all the nature docs that only Attenborough can master, or the family Sat night shows like Strictly come dancing.
How about the amazing radio shows and the new music you heard for the first time just beause of John Peel.
I hope I am not breaking any rules here. I just thought some of you not on twitter might not of heard of this issue.
Thanks
CW.

I totally hated Martha, she annoyed me in everyway. The chemistry was just not there.
-
Thanks for the heads up. I remember when I was reading The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and i was thinking this is a pile of rubbish, and people on the forum were saying to keep at it, so I did and now I love the series.
So I will most definately keep on with the series, even if I don't like it I will for my son.

I was looking yesterday at my 'Mount TBR Everest' after it toppled over, and I asked the boys to pick out one book for me and I would choose the restof them, for when we go away.
They chose the First Harry Potter book and my oldest is dying for me to like Harry Potter as all his friends parents love it. Oh dear so that is my reading for the summer. I hope and pray that I love it as much as you folks do.

Hi and Welcome.
Fantastic intro.
I am starting to learn more about Lord of the Rings as my oldest son is totally crazy about it. I tried reading the book, but I gave up. One of my aims in life is to read the series.
Look forward to reading your posts.
