my copy of the lord of the rings the fellowship of the ring. i decided to buy the book in the three parts as the full book terrifies me
The three seperate books scare me!!!
I ended up going into Waterstones this evening and picking up Fallen by Lauren Kate - it's one I'd been meaning to get for a while.
I have this on my wishlist. I have heard some good and bad reviews, but heard that most people think that the series has a lot of potiental. Looking forward to hearing your review.
As for me, I did manage some reading I finally started the book The Devil's Star by Jo Nesbo. I read the first five chapters before I fell asleep. It was Ok so far. I hope to settle into it soon. Still don't seem to be as one with the book. I hope to soon, I have heard nothing but good for this author.

Yeah, The Resurrectionist has been sitting on my bedside table waiting for me to pick it up since I wrote that post, it just puts me to sleep! Drags a bit I'm afraid.
Both Fantasy Lover and Pleasure Unbound are definitely not for young adults, I'm not sure I should be recommending them to older adults!
*coughchokesplutter*!!
That sucks about the Resurrectionist. I saw that in a charity shop and the Blurb looks really inticing. Hmm my mojo is still tempermental so I may slot it down a few notches.
Oh you should recommmend them to me I need something to kick start my mojo!!!
Are you alright there Charm, you seem to have an awful cough.??
Well, all you lovely ladies have convinced me to take Hamilton's 'Guilty Pleasures' with me on my vacation! I need some um, 'fluffy' adult reading materials,
Then I'm sure I'll be on the hunt for more of them when I get home!
Hehe, you likea 'bit of fluff' don't cha Peacfield? *High five* Join the 'Bit of fluff' group for Sweet...Innocent..Ladies'

Haha! Awesome you found that note mate! I bet you were being very sneaky sneaky trying to look around trying to see who found it
That Mo Hayder book is the one I don't have. I am sure we had a discussion about Hayder right at the beginning of the year and I kept getting hte titles mixed up. I still have not read any of them, but look forward to your review
Yay for second hand book shops!

Ooo, I found there were a couple characters that I didn't like in the first so I hope that won't put me off.
Gah! Maybe I should get it sooner rather than later!
-
Whatcha trying to say Fi!
I am a sweet... Innocent... Lady.. Who is rather shy to 'smut'
.
*Runs out of the house to go get the book!*

I would recommend the Skulduggery Pleasant series. Just finished reading the first one and I think an 11year old would love it!
He might like the Maximum Ride series by James Patterson. fantastic reads, The first few were awesome. I was not keen on the fourth one but I have heard other people love it. I think it is up to it's six in the series. Another one by Patterson is Witch and wizard. If you like the HUnger games he might like this.
Rick Riodan who wrote the Percy Jackson series (which I love reading to my son) has a new series out. The Kane Chronicle Series. It is about Egyptian Mythology. I have not read it yet as I am going to y it for my son for Xmas. The first one in the series (and I think the only one out at presen)t is called The red pyramid.
Artemus Fowl are always a good series. I read these also to my son and he loves them.
Hope some of these suggestions help

Have you read the second in the Hunger Games series? It is suppose to be better than the first.
How about some Jasper Fforde? I have only read The Big Over Easy and The fourth Bear, but I find them great for light Holiday reading.
Another book that maybe quite good is Wicked. The others name has dissapeared on me, but I am sure someone on here will give you the name. The theatre production of the same name is based on the book.
Have you tried the HOuse of the Night Series by P.C and Kirstin Cast? It's a vampire series but nothing like Twilight.
Hush Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick is another book that I really enjoyed. Not vampires as such but can be compared to twilight. Also Shiver by Maggie (forgot her surname) A big favourite with some of us on this forum and the second one in the series has jus come out. Not about vampires but Warewolves.

I too love Abs! I saw it and it just made me giggle!

Hi and welcome!
Haha what a very clever idea!!
What are some of the books that you have on that massive TBR pile of yours? Do you have any Crime Thrillers?
Look forward to reding some of your reviews (If you decide to do any)
Oh and Good luck on that ban. You will find so many recommendations that your wishlist book will be filled by the end of the year, and and your Credit cards and Library cards witll get awfully floppy by being used so much.
Enjoy the forum and see you around.

GWTW is one of the books that I get told I have to read. I go to pick it up and think Crikey, there is no way I can read a book that big when, honestly, I have no actual interest to read the book other than I have heard good recommendations for it. I will read it one day, maybe when I'm retired and I have the time again to just read, read, read.

Are you not liking the book Brida?
As for me, I have only got 2 pages read of the Jo Nesbo - The Devil's Star read. Just because it is the first day of the Summer Hols for the kids and they are craving my undivided attention today. I am hoping I am not too tired to get some reading down during work.
Lets just hope that this is going to be a good book!
-
Oooo er Missus!!!
You think it is my sort of thing Fi?
-
Brillian t thanks for that Vladd.
-
Ooo, thanks Kell.
For some reason the name rang a bell and I think he has some books that are to do with Roman times. I will take a note of those ones and check he does not have them.
Thanks Kell.
-
I definately going to read it, and it was on my last summer holiday that I read the first one in the series. I am not going to rush to buy it though, as I have found that the series is a little hit or miss.

Ok so I am looking for a book....
My Best mate's Birthday is next month and he is not a huge book fan but really loves the Sharpe series and has them all and I know that whenever his girlfriend and I talk books he always mentions wanting to find another book or series to read.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
He also loves the Lord of the Rings series, and historical fiction like Books based around Waterloo and Napolean. War kind of books, if that makes sense.
As you can tell I do not know much about this genre.
Thanks in advance

I have one of his books on my TBR pile, it's a book I picked up on a charity shop due to a lot of people on here loving it so much. I will read it one day... I promise!!!!
-
I read it at the beginning of the year and like I said previously I liked it, a really easy read, and good for a vacating mojo. I have Linger on my wishlist and I will most certainly either get it for Xmas or from my library.
I finished Linger on Thursday and without giving anything away, I think I loved it more than Shiver
I only saw this comment Fi, and I like the sound of that!!!!
I really like shiver but could see some things that I would personally like in the furure, so this makes me want to get Linger even more.

The Resurrectionists by James Bradley - I've semi abandoned this ... well ... let's just say it has been put in my bedside table for nighttime reading as it's pretty boring to be honest and helps me get to sleep
The Vampire's Seduction by Raven Hart - I've been trying to get my hands on this for ages and I'm glad I did. Really enjoyable with interesting and likeable characters. I will definately be getting the next in the series. 8/10
Fantasy Lover - Sherrilyn Kenyon - This is the first in a huge series of books. It wasn't bad, it kept my mojo here and I will probably by the next in the series to see how it goes, again nothing too taxing. 7/10
Guilty Pleasures (Anita Blake Vampire Hunter) by Laurell K Hamilton - I really enjoyed this. I think the character of Anita will need a bit of getting used to but an entertaining read where vampires are mainstream and zombies are raised on a regular basis (these zombies I can handle ... just about
). 9/10
Worrying to hear about your thoughts on the THE Ressurrectionists. I still have yet to read this on my TBR pile, and it seems to be getting lower and lover down the more bad reviews I hear about it!!
As for Fantasy lover, another book to add to the wishlist. I always know who to count on! Thanks charm.
If I'm right I recommended this to you last year charm and said that the only thing about it was that there were Zombies. I am glad you like the series. I have not read the second one yet, but I will do as soon as I have cut into my TBR pile.
I meant to tell you about another author you have to try - if you haven't already! Nalini Singh, I think she's from New zealand but I've just read the first two books from two series she's written. You absolutely have to try Angel's Blood which is the first in the Guild Hunter series (there's two books so far, the second is Archangel's Kiss) and if you like that try her Psy-Changeling series
Thanks for that recommendation Fi, That sounds good and just joted it down on the wishlist.
Nightswallow ~by~ Bronwyn Winter Phoenix
Blurb:
"Night Swallow is dead. A former travel journalist, she lost herself in beautiful worlds far from the London apartment where she was murdered. Following a series of dark events on an isolated island, she must face her death as she is forced to learn the ways of the spirits around her. As things start to spiral out of control, she is sucked deeper into a world she no longer recognises to battle the unstoppable force she uncovered on her travels. With help from mesmerising spirits along the way Magnus, a mysterious loner; Gabrielle, an extravagant former theatre actress and Leon, an unusual librarian with a penchant for seeing the dead - Night has to stop her killer from destroying all that she loved. But will her unfinished business lead her to the final answer?"
This is a great little read. I liked the main character and how we followed her as she coped with the after life. The story was fast paced and kept me interested with the thriller element to it, the ideas behind the afterlife were very believable too. The writing is easy to follow and the author manages to conjour up the atmosphere brilliantly. Well done Bronwen! 8/10
Pleasure Unbound ~by~ Larissa Ione
Synopsis courtesy of Waterstones:
Someone has been cutting up demons and removing their body parts, and this doesn't make sense to doctors Eidolon and Shade, the only surgeons in the world who care exclusively for demons. One patient after another has been arriving at the 'demon ER' with missing internal organs, and Eidolon vows to find who has been targeting his race and for what purpose. To make matters worse for Eidolon's demon-kind, he's just gone and treated a female demon-slayer who heats his blood as no other has. Tayla is a sexy, lustful, demon-slaying warrior who works for The Aegis, a council of humans who have vowed to rid the world of demons. Eidolon knows Tayla's deepest secret: that she is actually half demon herself. She is, in fact, the only being Eidolon has ever seen who has half-demon, half-human blood. And she's the only woman who has ever captivated him so. But is this woman, who is trained to eradicate Eidolon's species, the person responsible for the rash of demon mutilations that are turning his hospital upside down?
I really enjoyed this book, it reminded me of the J R Ward series I have recently read. It's the first in a series about demons, a quick, graphic and erotic story full of betrayal and action throughout. Note: Contains sexual scenes. 8/10
Yet another two I have just put on the wishlist. That Pleasure unbound sounds right up my street. Because of the sexual nature I am taking it is not a YA book.
Thanks for awesome recommendations!

I loved this Kate, it is an unusual little book, isn't it?
Dan Brown's 'The Lost Symbol' arrived yesterday. OH is heading off for 11 days on a business trip, so this will go with him. So long as it's as readable 'sh as his previous books, we should be ok. Hubby wants a distracting rather than a demanding book for his travels.
I found it to pass the time. If you look at the book like that, he will think it is Ok. Not as good as the Da Vinci code, but did the job on a flight.
I did no reading yesterday after I found the forum was back up and running
Today, however, I'm off to carry on with Linger as it's crying out for attention
Gah!!! I can't wait for your review! I have this on my wishlist.
I have decided to read The Devils Star by Jo Nesbo. Not read any of it yet, but the blurb has captivated me already... Bring it On!!!!

i've just watched The Incredibles and really liked it

Ok so I finihsed Tempted (House of the night book 6) by P.C & Kirstin Cast.
Wow! What an ending.I thought the book was OK. But such a page turner at the end, can't believe the ending! I instantly reserved the next one I have to know what happens.
As for the next book I am going to read, hmm, I'm not sure I have a few from the library I must read. I might start the first Jo Nesbo book.
**Edit*** I noticed that it is my first year anniversary on BCF. Happy BCF to me, happy BCF to me......

I saw this on Coronation Street last night. ( I never watch it normally my Mother was here..... Honest!) anyway Derdre Barlow was reading it, and said t was amazing and raving about it on the show. I have heard nothing but good about this book. Do you think my Mum, who never reads books apart from Danielle steele, would like it? I like to get her a book every year but she is so difficult to buy for.
They sound interesting, can you tell the name of the first book in the series?? Thanks.
I have loads if not all of the authors books on my TBR pile, they look so interesting and right up my street. Great review, may well put them up the pile a bit.
