  3. Thanks for the tip-off Vimes. I agree,Andrea,that historical crime is probably a sub-genre,though it's soared in popularity in the last 10 years I would say. There's also a fast growing 'historical action' genre now too.
  4. Do you class historical crime as a separate genre to crime? Examples are C.J.Sansom's Shardlake series set during the reign of Henry VIII,Rory Clements' Elizabethan series,and more recently D.E.Meredith's Victorian crime novels,Devoured and The Devil's Ribbon. I do tend to split historical crime from modern crime/thrillers though they're often equal or superior to the modern crime novels.

  7. I only had the final chapter of Ghost Moth by Michele Forbes left to read,so finished it in a comfy leather armchair in the library! Recently found a boxed,near mint 1976 illustrated copy of Watership Down in Oxfam for £5! Also bought Butcher's Crossing by John Wiliams,The House Of Silk by Anthony Horowitz,A Cry In The Night by Tom Grieves,and Revenger by Rory Clements.

  12. I've read Familiar by J.Robert Lennon on Kindle,and now halfway through The Woman In Black,Angel Of Death by Martyn Waites. I've ordered Brother's Fury by Giles Kristian and The Last Kings Of Sark by Rosa Rankin-Gee from t'library.
  13. Just finished Shadowland by C.M.Gray,a kind of pre-King Arthur novel on my kindle. Started The Pagan Lord by Bernard Cornwell,the 7th in his warrior series. Also lining up Wolf's Head by Steven A McKay,a new Robin Hood series for the kindle.
  14. Finished The Cuckoo's Calling by Robert Galbraith,excellent crime debut from Rowling. Started The Unseen by Katherine Webb,and picked up library request of Secrets Of The Sea House by Elisabeth Gifford.
  15. I'm 140 pages into The Cuckoo's Calling by Robert Galbraith aka J.K.Rowling.Very impressed so far,but as I've never read Harry Potter there's no comparison. Going to collect The Unseen by Katherine Webb from't library later.

  25. Half way through Ghost Hunter,the sixth and final novel in Michelle Paver's Chronicles of Darkness series. Next up is One Child's War by Hugh Hafani Hayes,a fictional novel set in London during the Blitz in WW2.
