Has anyone read Sansom's historical novels which began with Dissolution and are set in the times of Henry VIII? I picked up Revelation in a charity shop recently. The synopsis makes me think these books are historical thrillers played out with factual history as a fascinating background.
I'm fairly certain it was Terry Brooks' Sword Of Shannara,fantasy-wise,and I'm still reading him 30+ yrs later(I sound ancient!). I've got the latest trilogy starting with Armageddon's Children waiting impatiently on my bookcase! Horror was James Herbert's Rats. I had nightmares as kid reading that and the two sequels! I can't honestly remember my first sci-fi! Def getting old!
I was star-gazing with two friends when there's a sudden flash and the stars and moon are no longer visible! I discover later that satellites are blocked affecting t.v and the internet, and that tho' the sun rises and sets ev'ryday it may no longer be our sun!
Did you have room to put 'em up,or are they in a hotel double room?!
Never read Neil Gaiman, but was a big fan of the tv adaption of Neverwhere,so will have to sort it!
It's Viking:Odinn's Child by Tim Severin-it starts in Iceland,then moves to Greenland,Newfoundland,The Orkneys,and currently Ireland,but it's all set in the 11th century! Plus it's a trilogy,so I'm expecting more globetrotting!
Watership Down by Richard Adams
Quest For The Faradawn by Richard Ford
All Quiet On The Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque
Sophie's Choice by William Styron
Shadows On Our Skin by Jennifer Johnston
Not you personally, but the character you are/are reading about in your currant book!
I'm a 15 yr old boy in 1014 Ireland where I've travelled with 'vikings' from Iceland, and have just been in a fierce battle with the Irish High King!
Thanks for hearty welcome ev'ryone! I've tried dozens of avatars now,all within the limit, and just cannot upload them! I've uploaded avatars to other forums first go,and just never had any problems like this! Maybe I'll just keep the big question mark, then!
Hi Susanna
Fantasy faves are Terry Brooks,Mark Chadbourn & Celia Friedman.
Favourite thriller writer is/was John Case, but Robert McCammon has started writing historical thrillers and Kenneth Cameron's debut,'The Frightened Man' was excellent. What sort of fantasy & thriller d'you like?
Hi ev'ryone! I've already introduced myself, but on somebody else's thread! Any way,I love books right across the genres, and this looks like a friendly 'library' I'd like to drop into on a regular basis! Look forward to taking part in your forum, and making new friends. I've tried several times to upload an avatar within the correct scales, but it just comes up as 'upload failed'.
