  1. I was thinking about some books that I read when I was younger and for some reason I cannot think of them at all! From what i can remember:- They were a trilogy of books It was centered around a beauty contest and 3 girls that were entering? One of them was murdered early on in the first book and was found to have been pregnant. There was your typical rich, spoilt teenage girl who entered and one of the girls was from the wrong side of town. In the end you found out that one of the geeky followers of the rich girl (she may have been called Penny and a little bit of a pyscho!) had been the murderer because she wanted her friend to win?! I think some of the characters names were Lacy Pinkerton and Raven Cruz. It's just bugging me about the titles! Does anybody recall these at all?
  2. Oh brilliant - thanks for that! I live quite near the hospital too so I will check it out. There's an Age Concern shop near me which is really good for books, I managed to get Lucky Man by Michael J Fox for 50p which was a really good read. Can't wait for the summer, a nice walk along the river and sitting in the Museum Gardens in the sun with a cracking book!
  3. Definite born reader - thank god my mum has finally got into actually reading books. Bless her, it only too her to retire to realise what I'd been going on about all these years. I remember English lessons at school and the fact that I'd always read the entire book when we were actually supposed to be reading and discussing a chapter at a time..... Just too impatient.
  4. After all the bookmarks I've bought, my favourite is a fish shaped one that came as clothes tag from a shop?! Not sure why really but it's the one I always look for! I've tried to use the paperclip type ones that you attach to the top of where you were reading but I always find they tend to tear some of the top of the page?!
  5. I'm sure there is something wrong with my library (or right) as it's actually free to reserve the books! I usually check if they've got it, sometimes it will be at another library and usually within a couple of days it's arrived for me.. Our main library at the moment in York is having a big refurb so we were able to get up to 25 books in November and they don't have to be back until it opens again in April. All the other little libraries are open though so it's books galore at the moment for me! I get some of my books from Amazon too though, especially the 1p ones. As long as it's readable I don't mind if it's creased! I've just ordered a Lynda La Plante book from her and with postage of

I've just read your review of 'The Killing Floor' and have to agree with you about that god awful quote on the back of some of Lee Child's books! Urgh, it's absolute cheese on toast.

The first book of his that I read was actually 'The Enemy' which someone had kindly left in the hotel I was staying in in Cyprus and that's how I was introduced to him! Had I realised that one was actually the prequel, I would have trid to read them in order!

  7. I've not read any of hers either but after watching 'Under Suspicion' without realising it was based on one of her books and quite liking it, I've decided to read the next one in this particular series 'The Red Dahlia' (once it arrives from Amazon!)
  8. I've been digging around and I actually own 'Wire in the Blood'. I got it in 2006, the reason I know this is that the receipt from Borders is in the front of the book! I actually remember buying it as it was
  9. I've read his other books and loved them. I really enjoyed The Five People you Meet in Heaven and For One More Day. I think I may have even shed a tear!
  10. Brilliant, thanks I'll give it a go. Need to read Shadow of the Wind too as everyone raves about it. I tried it a couple of years ago and got about half way through........then for some reason got bored and stopped reading it! Going to have to do some digging as I think I actually own both books!!
  11. I think I might have to read to Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell at some point as I think some or all of it is set in York, which is where I live!

Thanks I will do - I've just subscribed and I think I've got a lot of post reading ahead of me!

  13. I've never actually read any of her books! Are there any that I should read in particular? Any recommendations? I usually start reading books then find out from someone that I should have read about 10 books before the one I'm reading!
  14. Oh yes Kurt Wallander too! My friend gave me a copy of the White Lioness and that was how I was introduced to him.. I deliberately stayed away from watch the TV series as I just couldn't understand Kenneth Branagh playing him. I assume they've kept the TV series in Sweden? Does he attempt a Swedish accent?! Oh Lincoln Rhyme too - I always picture him as Denzel! even though in the books it is mentioned that he was red hair.
  15. Yes it is indeed - well done! Your turn..
  16. Oh yes, Harry Bosch! That's another one for me too...
  17. Thanks! How about:- "Oh my God, I'm getting pulled over. Everyone, just... pretend to be normal."
  18. Ha! It is a funny film! Anybody know this one? "Coffee, tea..............me?!"
  19. I think I have to agree with some people who have posted that I prefer American crime writers! I think it's probably because they just seem to have more twists - saying that though I have read a lot of Jeffery Deaver and James Patterson books!
  20. Oh that's great thanks very much! I tend to avoid watching TV versions of books as I usually find them so disappointing. I agree that they do tend to miss out a lot of what you read as it's just not possible to igo nto that much detail. I would have probably liked to have read 'Under Suspicion' but I didn't even realise it was based on a Lynda La Plante book.
