  1. It's just such a good story. I thought the film with Juliette Binoche (?) and Ralph Fiennes was a bit iffy mind you.....has anyone else seen it?
  2. Dark chocolate and chilli you say?? Hmmmmm.....what percentage of cocoa might that be? haa!! :eek2: I've never heard of chilli with chocolate before!
  3. I agree with you Dimitra. It's one of those great love stories even though the characters aren't likeable in the slightest. I like Nelly and Hareton but that's about it. One of my favourite quotes has to be: My love for Linton is like the foliage in the woods; time will change it, I'm well aware, as winter changes the trees. My love for Heathcliff resembles the eternal rocks beneath--a source of little visible delight, but necessary. Nelly, I am Heathcliff! He's always, always in my mind--not as a pleasure, any more than I am always a pleasure to myself, but as my own being.
  4. :welcome2:Hi Gillian!!
  5. Something chocolatey always gets me by. I make my own Chocolate and Banana cake which is nice with a cup of tea. Also have a thing for Green and Blacks 85% cocoa dark chocolate when I'm a bit down. (I'm slowly becoming addicted to it!! I used to eat ordinary dark chocolate, then I moved onto 40% cocoa, then gradually made it to 70%, now 85% and I've had 89%.......I think the next step is to sit with a jar of cocoa powder and a spoon!! haa!!)
  6. Hello Bookologist! :eek2:
  7. I used to love love love Ben and Jerry's pineapple icecream (forget the name of it) when I went to the cinema and then it was gone. Never to be seen again! I've been contemplating buying an icecream maker just to make pineapple icecream but I'm scared that I'll be heading quite quickly to a heart attack!! Really nice though

Haaa!! The man flu eh!! My boyfriend gets that too....it usually only lasts about 20 mins at a time which is quite unusual!

I always think it's good to take a couple of sick days each year....keeps them on their toes! :D Plus I really don't like my job so it's quite tempting!

So what have you been reading on your leisure days.....I mean 'sick' days! ;)

Hope you feel better soon :D

  9. Hey Mac! I'm very well thanks!! How's you? I know exactly what you mean. I suppose it's a good look at how the other half live!! I usually read something pretty light hearted after reading a Chuck book. I love the fact that he can get an audible reaction out of me whilst reading. In the Diary With other books you normally think "eugh that's pretty awful" but with him I usually end up gagging! haaa!! Or saying "Right that's enough for now" and putting it to one side for about 30 seconds before I put myself through it all again!! Do you think that he leads you down the garden path thinking that you're going to be told one story then all of a sudden you're not being told that story at all and never really have been? With Rant I was thinking Haaaa! I've not heard of Michel Houellebecq (I've just copied and pasted! haa!!) but will definitely take a look! That is quite a name isn't it!! I've recently been bought Danny by Chancery Stone which I'm hoping is along the same lines as Chuck. It's a pretty big book so I'm waiting for the summer to start it. The flyer inside the books reads "3,623 swear words, 3,907 sexual acts, 4,373 acts of violence and 12,638 things to object to. Your Mother wouldn't like it." It'll either be fantastic or just give me nightmares for the following month!! Have you read it or heard any reviews of it at all?
  10. Haaa!! We've been talking about the 'little wee' all day at work!! Small minds and all that!!
  11. There were a few books that I haven't read but really should have like A Clockwork Orange (if I can get past the disturbing nature of it!), Bram Stoker's Dracula, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society (I've never heard of it but it sounds good ), The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. Also those Raven Hart books too! I think you mentioned The Vampire Lestat by Anne Rice which made me think 'hey I've got one of her books. I'll see if I can find it.....wonder how many pages it is? Wonder if the intro is the same as the movie?'. Then I accidentally read some of it which lead me to becoming hooked! So judging by that I think it's all your fault!! haa!! Also, I've read The Five People you Meet in Heaven and think along the same lines as you pretty much. It was a pretty fast read though which isn't too bad. It'd be awful if you'd persevered with it for 500 pages before realising that it doesn't really get much better. I think he may have another book out now so it might be interesting to see if he's improved at all

    I'm back

Hey Welshman! I didn't know you the first time around as I'm pretty new here but look forward to any book suggestions etc you may have (Although my tbr and wish lists are out of control!)
  13. What does everyone think of Siralan's choice tonight? I'm unsure.....really don't like that James character. He's so gobby! I'm really liking Philip though. Maybe I'm a bit biased as he's a Northern boy Tonight's episode was too funny!! Togas!!
  14. It's really good that they'll do that for you. Hope our library will do the same! It's in the middle of being re-built and should be open this summer (along with a new museum.....it's all go in Newcastle Upon Tyne!!) I really hope you like Mr Palahniuk's work......It'll be nice to have someone to rave about him with!! Most of my friends read chick-lit which I never read really. Really enjoying Interview with a Vampire.....it's much better than assignments!! haa!!
  15. Ooooh well I'd go with Fight Club if I were you I accidentally picked up Interview with a Vampire the other night after people were commenting about good it was and now I'm hooked. Think Noughts and Crosses is on the back burner!! Eeeek! Hope your library gets a few more Chuck books in stock.....they really are worth a read!
  16. I totally agree! She could've lived out her life and he would follow her into death, like he said. The fact that he couldn't live without her would have been so much more romantic that what actually unfolded.
  17. Yeah I'll let you know.....I'm hoping to read it in small slots on the bus and before bed etc so small victories and all that
  18. The film is so good but I think it's a good representation of the book. It's one of the best book to film adaptations out there in my opinion. It's actually one of my favourite movies.....good story and BRAD PITT!!!
  19. My least favourite book was also New Moon. When I re-read the books I skipped out so much of this book.....mainly Jacob's bit if I'm honest but that doesn't mean that I don't like him. I just think the whole 'Bella mourning Edward' section was really boring! In Breaking Dawn, I really liked Jacob's point of view. It was a nice change and I found parts of it pretty funny. I really can't believe people were burning books......that's crazy!!

    Hello!

:welcome2:Hey Sam! You'll have to let everyone know what you think of 'The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon'. I recently read Misery by Stephen King and I'm still having nightmares!! I'm looking forward to reading some of your works!
  21. I've just read your reading list and added more books to my wishlist....eeeek!!! I'll be having the busiest summer ever!! haa!! Yeah - The book of lost things. I think it's one of those books where your opinion constantly changes depending on what mood you're in. I'd definately recommend reading it after something that's been heavy going as it's a breeze and really easy to get through. Plus you'll recognise a lot of the characters....Snow White's in there! Haa!! Chuck Palahniuk.....ah I just love his work!! Haunted is my favourite book of his but I've also read Diary, Rant, Choke, Fight Club and Stranger Than Fiction. All of them have been really good and had a few stomach turning scenes.....my stomach's turning just thinking of them now! Yack! So I'd probably recommend you read Haunted, Diary or Fight Club first.
  22. Dear Me Frankie!! I've just added about 10 books to my wish list following your recommendations!! Eeeek!!
  23. Hey Bookbee!! It's ok......I'm not too far into it as it's assignment time at Uni so I've had to put it down. I'm up to the part where Callum's sister has just died and Sephie turns up to the wake. As soon as I pick it up again I'll let you know how I'm finding it. Seem's like it has lots of potential though
