  1. Oooh.. I hate that when you're reading a book and you have this feeling that you've read it before but can't quite remember.. I'm always so disappointed by that. :( I hope you enjoy it through the end and at least eventually figure out if you've read the story before!

  2. Yes yes! We are back, mostly settled, and it's back to reading and BCF for me while Raja watches sports.. just like how we left it. ;)

Things are good.. New apartment, new furniture, new(ish) city.. now just need a job and new friends! :D

You are still doing your internship yes? A few more months left, right? And how's BF? (Look at my discretion.. I'm the best secret keeper EVER!)

    xoxo .. yeeeeeeey!! ii again!

  3. Ohhh Inver! I see you're reading "Midwives" .. This is one of my absolute favorites! How are you liking it so far?
  4. Haven't been able to do much reading lately, but hopefully that will change now that we're settling in after the move! I'm reading Rumours by Anna Godbersen.. 2nd one in the Luxe series. Really good so far.
  5. Hi there :) We are good.. We haven't moved just yet, just took a weekend trip to mainland China this past weekend. We will be going back to the States on Sept 18th.. We have 2 weddings the following weekend, and that next week will be when we are moving. It's looking like Manhattan is going to be the final destination, although Baltimore is a distant possibility as well. Hopefully we will find out soon! :)

    How was your weekend?

  6. Glad to hear the French reception went well! If you have any pictures uploaded on any site, I'd love to see some. :) January, huh? Not much longer.. That's going to be so exciting!

Shenzhen was great.. And we leave Thursday for Thailand. Hopefully it'll be fun! :) We will go back to the States after that.. looking like Manhattan could be the final destination, but nothing set in stone yet. We shall see!

  7. It was really good. Let me know if you get your hands on it! I'm about to start reading another book by Morton, "The Forgotten Garden," next.
  8. Someone give the crazy lady some answers.
  9. *shielding ii from the Twilight fans* Runnnn, ii!! Save yourself!! Just playing!
  10. No real review on either of these, just some quick thoughts for update. LOVED "The House at Riverton" and have now put Kate Morton's other book, "The Forgotten Garden," on my TBR/wish list. This book was so haunting, and I literally closed the book and sighed, wishing I still had more to read of it. Also enjoyed "Blue Diary" by Alice Hoffman, but I felt a bit unsettled after reading it.. Not quite the impactful ending I was hoping for. The ending provided left me feeling sort of like a feather, floating along in the wind, aimless and lacking something to weigh it down. (Geez.. crazy-sounding metaphor much?? I SWEAR I haven't lost my mind over here. ) I'm sure some found the ending quite fitting, and some may have felt just as I did.. To each their own, but still a good book overall.
  11. I just finished my first Alice Hoffman read: Blue Diary Next up, The Jane Austen Book Club
  12. Hey no problem!! I probably forget half of the messages on here.. It's hard to keep everything straight! Between emails, Facebook, text messages, private messages, I figure I do pretty well if I get around to half of them. ;)

Things are good here.. We're going to Shenzhen, China this weekend, and Bangkok the next. Cramming everything in since our time is almost up!

How long until the wedding ceremonies start?

  13. Totally American here.. Born in Alabama, and lived there until I was 25 and was married. Husband is from Alabama also.

As for HK, we LOVE it here. If this place was in the States, we'd probably settle down here for a long while. There's tons to do, it's really nice here, there are mountains and beaches, and people are nice. Plus the Asia market is hot right now in the finance sector, so business is thriving and the economy is still growing, despite the hard time globally.

If you ever get the chance to come to HK to work, do it! What kind of work do you do, by the way?

  14. Heh.. I liked your last comment. Funny. I agree with you on #1 (yes, I'm in that minority with you!) and totally disagree on #4.. Loved that book! (But I think I'm in the minority again on that one.)
  15. Going to a Swiss restaurant tonight.. I'm thinking fondue may be my choice there. Yum!
  16. I have what I call a "TBR" list, but I think I'm really using the wrong name.. It's really a "wishlist," as it's a list of books I think sound interesting enough to consider picking up when I'm in the mood for something like that. It's not at the exclusion of other random books that I may run across that aren't on my wishlist.. If I run across a book that's not on my wishlist that I want to read, I have no trouble either adding it to my wishlist for later, or checking it out (library) at that point. I also have other random lists, like "Books to look up more info on" or "Authors to Research," or "Authors recommended to me." I have no qualms about having multiple lists concerning things I want to look up later when I'm in the mood. As for an actual stack of books I have to read, I have about 3 books in it, mostly because I check out so many books from the library, and approach books to read like any other to-do list.. I like to check things off as I go, instead of piling things onto my list when I still have 17 things left to do. That's not to say TBR lists aren't good, don't work for a lot of people, or anything else.. Just what fits MY preferences as a reader.
  17. Hi and welcome, Burto.. Glad you joined us!
  18. Hello and welcome!
  19. Hi Laura! Welcome to BCF!
  20. Hello! :)

So Texas it is, huh? :) I've never been there myself, but we have 2 good friends living out there, and they love it! I'm glad you've gotten to spend quite a bit of time there, visiting your partner. My (now) husband and I spent the first 8 or so years in different states most of the time, so I so get the going back and forth thing.. It's definitely necessary, and usually fun! :)

  21. I agree completely.. I am a BIG proponent of getting away from your small town where you grew up. I had a great childhood, even loved high school, but I still feel really grateful to have a separate adult life from my child life. Just something about knowing people look at you and don't see your past 25 years all in one quick flash. :)

  22. Heh.. You joke, but I harbor a secret desire to live in England. I think it's from all these damn books I read by British authors.. ;) Raja and I talked about looking for opps in London, but unfortunately, the London market for Citi isn't the major player it used to be since all of the banking shifts, so it wasn't a very good option. :(

It looks, right now, like we may end up back in Manhattan which is very exciting! I just find something magical about NYC, even after living there a short time. The change this time would be that I'd be working there, and I haven't attempted a job search in Manhattan before.. a bit daunting!

  23. It has a FEW twists in it! It made the book REALLY good for me. The first maybe 70-80 pages were kinda rough because I felt like it was too formulaic chick lit, but soon after that, I was sucked in. The twists are REALLY good in this one.. I'd say get your hands on it if you can. :)

  24. I have a wire bath rack almost just like that one. You are so right -- It looks really primitive, BUT I will say that I bunked out almost $100 for a really nice bath rack one time, and it was super heavy, really difficult to move around, hard to store, and got in the way more often than not. I eventually got sick of dealing with it and bought one just like the link for $25 at Bed, Bath & Beyond, and it functioned waaaaay better. Sometimes, simple is better, apparently!
  25. Hi, and welcome, Emm!! It sounds like you and I share some common reading interests.. I also loved "The Book Thief" and "A Thousand Splendid Suns," and am sooo not above lying back with some chocolate, a glass of wine, and a chick-lit read. For chick-lit recs, 2 of my favorites this year have been: The Luxe - Anna Godbersen (Book 1 of a series) The Ivy Chronicles - Karen Quinn (one of the funniest books I've read) Just throwing those out there in case you haven't read either of them and are interested. Hope you're finding your way around!
