  1. At the moment I'm reading three.... I tend to focus on one or two core ones, and often skim a short one for the sake of variety.
  2. I never give away any books, I don't even sell my old school books!
  3. I actually agree entirely. Her writing style is really her only flaw - shes got the raw material in her head. She just doesn't know how to use it.
  4. Right, I spent all day today working things out, but I finally managed to add in a third column, which shall be primarily for the archive! it can now be as long as it wants! and the whole blog looks neater, and has new images and things. Now I just need to put all my posts back in XD
  5. Oh, I inspired a thread. Hee. My mum bought Kate Mosse's 'Labyrinth' (google won't work so I can't dig out a picture) because the cover drew her attention. Its a beautifully designed hardback - the sort of thing that looks like it should be in a fancy old posh library. Even the inside is stunning.
  6. Patrick Stewart is the best Shakespearean actor I've seen - though thats usually movies. I think he does stage shows too, or did. I love him primarily because hes Captain Picard, but I think hes superb in Shakespearean dramas and also classic english ones - A Christmas Carol/Canterville Ghost.
  7. Either Twilight or Black Sun Rising....... I think its only fair to say Twilight, its not the better book by a long shot, but it did have the greatest impact, particularly on my funds =[
  8. Yeah I was thinking about that, but the sidebar is really to narrow and makes it look all disjointed. I swapped my quote with the archive, so now the archive is at the bottom - the main page will always be a current recommendation (I'll keep updating it) and it will always be short, so the archive won't get lost. What do you think?
  9. Awesome! Someone who agrees!! I didn't buy the first ones simply because there are many variations of publishers, title colours yada yada and it was hard to be sure which I was getting off Amazon (they were all second hand, too.) What I'm going to do is when I have the money, buy the hardback editions, which have the exact same covers as the first editions, but with more detail. I am the ULTIMATE sad little book nerd amn't I? =P
  10. Turns out the prettiest covers are actually the original hardbacks with their shiny metallic titles and detailed cover pictures, but until I'm rich (hah) I'll have to do without.
  11. I've finally finished fixing up and personalizing the blog, and I've added ramblings for several books, so its just about done! I think its quite pretty looking if I do say so myself =D
  12. Haha everrrrrryone likes the newest covers. Yeah, they're pretty, but its exactly the same cover! Its like my LOTR books with the Green Sky for the Fellowship, the Blue Sky for the Two Towers and Orange Sky for the Return. I think they're too modern for a classic story which in and of itself and its genre IS a gaudy old bit of sci-fi. I eventually decided to go onto the American Amazon site, and they had the three covers I want, brand new direct from Amazon, and including crazy shipping prices its still only about
  13. I've been hunting on amazon and ebay (.co.uk and .com) for two days. These are the three best deals. The original 3: 1st book: Like New and 2nd and 3rd: Brand New Total including shipping: approx
  14. Thats exactly what I like about them. But they're also the least common and most expensive =/
  15. Yeah I thought you might, thats why I included them. They're very modern and very snazzy.... but the books are old gaudy sci-fi books =P Snazzy and modern just doesn't suit them! Plus, pretty as they are, they don't have the endlessly awesome Gerald Tarrant on them!
  16. Its the Coldfire Trilogy by C. S. Friedman (Sci-fi/Fantasy) Original Editions: (92-96ish) These next three are the ones I want: (2005 reprints) And then the not so great third variant: (2006/07)
  17. I'm buying a trilogy on Amazon, but I have a small dilemma. There are three variant paperback editions - the original 90's ones, cheap gaudy looking science fiction covers, but they're ORIGINAL you know? Vintage! AND I can get 'new' (mint condition!) ones. Then the second variant editions are newer, printed in 2005, but they're beautiful, easily the nicest covers of the lot. However, they're very expensive as a result and I'd have to get 'very good' conditions as opposed to 'like new' or 'new'. And they're obviously not vintage like the early 90's ones. And then theres the third variant, which are gorgeous sleek black modern covers, but don't worry about them, DO NOT WANT. So, should I get the gaudy but vintage and cheaper originals, or should I pay more for not-as-good condition non-vintage but beautiful editions? And yes, I am a book nerd of the highest order. Halp
  18. I've moved my random ramblings into a blog of their very own, due to being too obsessive compulsive about the arrangement of these things. http://roxisrandomramblings.blogspot.com/ Feel free to leave comments on the blog itself or here. I'll probably update this thread as I update my blog. ^____^
  19. The last couple days I've been reading morning evening and night. Trying to get through an epic trilogy. Onto book 2 already.
  20. I have a copy of The Count Of Monte Cristo in hardback... its kinda falling apart, it came from my school library. I'm not sure how old it is - I must check it out, but I suspect its old. My teacher/librarian allowed me keep it coz no one used the library.
  21. Its the best show I've seen in a very long time. I really miss it.
  22. Actually, thats a great point. Charlie was superbly acted, really endearing despite his lack o screentime. And I liked Mike simply coz I love the actor - he played Joan's brother Luke in Joan of Arcadia and a young Jack O Neil in Stargate SG-1, so I adore him.
  23. 1) Winter is my favourite season. 2) I love model dragons (like resin figures and things) 3) I have OCD, and as a result of my obsession with sets of three, I adore trilogies. 4) Music is my greatest love, and if I could be talented at one thing, it would be playing piano. 5) I'm a Trekkie. Star trekking across the universe, always going forwards coz we cannot find reverse!
