  1. I do it coz no shoes on God's green earth will actually fit my feet. I wear ballet flats a lot and they tend to slip a bit, so if I don't shuffle at least a little, my shoes fall off
  2. I'd love some bacon, cabbage and mash. Mmmm.
  3. I need to give them a thread on here, but my review on my blog is packed with spoilers and is more like an essay. They're brilliant. They're epic and dramatic and if they were a band they'd be Kamelot, loud and OTT but charismatic and alluring It is actually a big adventure, group sets out on quest and encounters various things along the way. It's also hilarious, the exchanges between the vampire-esque creature and the religious guy, technically enemies but unable to deny the similarities in their intentions and views, lead to some very funny moments.
  4. His Dark Materials is also a superb choice, but it's pretty mainstream, most people are aware of it. Poor ole Friedman isn't well known at all. What I love about Coldfire is it has a tad of sci-fi in it too, not much, but like, the 'magic' on Erna, where it's set, it's not just Harry Potter 'it happens' magic, it's due to various forces on the planet sorta like the wind and tides we have here, but it's an energy that is influenced and formed by the minds in it, creating magic or even sentient creatures, affecting the evolution of creatures, etc. Also, there are various religious ideas, good vs. evil debates etc etc. And then, Gerald Tarrant is a bit like a vampire (who feeds on fear) and is the coolest dude ever.
  5. It's okay Frankie, I shuffle too!
  6. These are some photos I took up at the Lough near my house, they've been sitting on my phone for a while, I forgot I had them. They're nothing special, but the Lough is gorgeous.
  7. The Coldfire Trilogy! Read it read it read it read it read it I will it I order it I command it! You're a legend just for being aware of it - READ IT NOW!!
  8. Oooh thank you, that would be great!!
  9. I'm not borrowing any books, I still have poor Gyre's copy of The Fetch due to mojo loss (If you want that back at any time Gyre just say so, I've already had it for way too long. I'm nearly finished it.)
  10. Well there you go!
  11. Peacefield, I had forgotten this - why does Thomas have a really bad Irish twinge in his accent?? He sounds Irish!!! Or at least, as Irish as any Canadian trying to sound Irish can Also, he's pretty cute when he loses the braids and suit 'Hey Victor, I guess that warrior look doesn't work ev-' 'SHUT UP, Thomas!' Thomas: 'You know the only thing more pathethic than Indians on tv, is Indians watching Indians on tv.'
  12. The Vampyre is next on my list
  13. Superb Muggle. And it's true. There's another very funny one but I can't post it as it has a rude word in it, but it has a photo of RPat as Edward, beside a photo of Nosferatu and under Edward it has a rude word, and below Nos it has 'vampire' and the poster says 'KNOW THE DIFFERENCE' 'It could save you $11'
  14. What really bugs me is waking up to construction work every morning for the last two or three weeks.
  15. I'm going to let BookJumper do all the finding, I'll do the reading
  16. I haven't read it, I'm a Stephen King rookie
  17. Oh yes, covers are another huge thing with me. If I see a pretty cover I want the book no matter how bad it might be
  18. I ocassionally browse Amazon via 'if you like this, you might also like' and have seen a few I want to get based on what I've read there. But that is usually also influenced by how many stars a book has gotten etc, so I don't know if that counts. I can easily read outside my normal range by reading through the threads on here and picking up something someone says is great, even if I'm not sure it's my thing. So it's cool.
  19. I think I may re-read Salem's Lot coming up to Christmas, as it's arguably the book that got me back into reading last December, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
  20. Civil Twilight! They had a song featured in Harper's Island (Letters From The Sky) but from what other bits I've heard I'd say they're worth a listen.
  21. Oh wow, I must read it so!
  22. Salem is short for Jerusalem. I must look up this short story, I'd be interested in reading it if it's connected.
  23. I'm totally going watching it tomorrow Thanks for reminding me about it!
  24. OMG Smoke Signals is an amazing movie. The main character is so hot I have a serious thing for Native Americans. But it IS a great movie. The speech at the end is superb. 'If we forgive our fathers, what is left?'
  25. Glad you're enjoying it, Sarah - it's great when it picks up the pace
