  1. Awwwhh bless. If I come into a lotto win or inheritance anytime soon I'll buy you a set
  2. Finished So What If I'm Broken by Anna McPartlin. 328 pages in three sittings in less than 16 hours. Hello mojo, welcome back.
  3. The new Kate Mosse is sitting in Waterstones. Hardback, €20, but I think I'll buy it because IT'S JUST SO PRETTY. It's navy and silver. I was like 'must have must have.'
  4. Is that the set I have, or a different set? This is a great topic. My level of fussiness varies depending on much I love the book or author. Like BookJumper, I spent more on a certain set of paperback Coldfire books because of the artwork, and I'm very pleased with them. I have other books from the same author or series in different styles and amn't bothered by it. I like to go both ways with older books - I want a new edition with notes and information and I also want a very old copy as I collect old books. Dorian Gray, arguably my favourite book - I have my college Norton edition which is ugly but informative, I have the leatherbound Penguin collectible which I recieved as a very thoughtful present, and I also have an illustrated hardback edition from 1925 which I'm afraid to open. I like to have a bit of everything - notes, aestethics and sheer class.
  5. I'm now 140 pages into my new Anna McPartlin book. Still loving it. Probably going to be up half the night trying to get it finished.
  6. Bought Anna McPartlin's "So What If I'm Broken?" her fourth and latest novel, inspired by the songs and her memories of Jack Lukeman. I'm 70 pages in, and unsurprisingly loving it. I reviewed her first novel a few months back for our reviews page and loved it, despite not being a chick lit fan. As I adore Jack L too I absolutely had to have this book.
  7. Today I discovered Anna McPartlin has written a book inspired by Jack Lukeman. I've read the former and was impressed, and I adore the latter. Am going straight to Waterstones tomorrow to track down this book.
  8. D'awwwwww Just isn't grabbing me! But I shall prevail, never fear, etc.
  9. My Matthew Pearl book has fallen off the radar. Haven't opened it in days. This does not bode well.
  10. Plus, Frankenstein is an awesome read.
  11. I only know one song by them. Thank you for reminding me to check out more of their material.
  12. Fantastic review. Sounds a bit like Fluke in reverse! The title was what caught my attention. What a gorgeous title! Definately going on the 'To Be Bought A.S.A.P' list
  13. I'm feeling particularly liberal today so I will hypocritically disregard anything else I've said in this thread (if I have said anything, I don't recall -) and say I would never refuse to read anything once! :)
  14. Cool, I'll probably give it a go. I really wanted to like Beauty.
  15. I wonder might I like Rose Daughter more then? Although I really didn't like anything about Beauty. It's a character driven story, and the characters had no personality whatsoever, and it's a novelization of a short story, but there's nothing added to that story whatsoever! In fact, if I recall correctly, the original had far more detail. (Irrelevant detail regarding lineage and conflicts I think, which is why it was left out of all later versions, but present in the original none the less.)
  16. I was leaning towards mash and garlic mushrooms anyway, but mash goes cold quickly and waffles are merely mash in a tidier format. So, it makes sense!
  17. Nope, sounds as good as anything to me! Think that's what I'll do.
  18. Not sure. What do I have? Hmmm... theres mash, some kind of fish in breadcrumbs, chicken fillets, garlic mushrooms, waffles Haven't decided yet.
  19. Glad you're enjoying it! It made me cry too.
  20. I don't know, but they have a new single out already
  21. I only read Beauty and thought very little of it.
  22. Aspy. Nickname for someone suffering from Asperger's Syndrome, which is an autism spectrum disorder (as Austism isn't something you have or don't, but something that everyone has to some positive (autistic) or negative (neurotypical) degree.
  23. I really did not like that book. It was just so forced! As I've said elsewhere, it didn't read like an aspy kid, it read like a dude pretending to be an aspy kid.
  24. Still the only book I've managed this with remains The Book Of Lost Things
  25. Still though, I think a book that makes you want to re-read, even if you know you 100% never will get round to it has done the best it possibly can.
