  1. Poor BookJumper lol. Sorry, but it's true. I may even have to pass on writing a review on it because I just don't know how I can in all honesty say anything good about it. 'It has a nice cover.'
  2. I actually agree with this. But what I mean when I say it is, 'I may never read this book ever again, but even if I don't, it deserves it.' I usually have to leave a year or two between re-reads if I do at all, and usually I don't.
  3. These aren't the top 5, just a random 5: The Shack - W. P. Young Pig Island - Mo Hayder Haunted - James Herbert The UnDead - Dacre Stoker Okay so four, I can't come up with another. Clearly, I know my own taste too well to pick out awful books. That said, all of the above were guilty pleasures at the time of reading, and I would read them again, by man they're bad.
  4. I couldn't even estimate percentages, but fiction wins by miles. The non-fiction books are mostly the equivilant of 'dummies guide to' books in various areas of interest - quantum physics, astrophysics/astronomy, archaeoastronomy, the Incas & Aztec civilisations, paeleontology, philosohpy and various books on literature (like say 'vampires in fiction' and so on, which explore the development of various writing styles or themes in literature. Not sure what you call them) and autobiographies or biographies of artists and their works.
  5. Yes, it is actually! I must start my Halloween read soon.
  6. I read the entire thing in one sitting
  7. It's okay, just means I can't sleep (nothing new there) and that I sound like a man (novelty just in time to scare small children at Halloween.) Thanks though! I'm thinking of starting a second book alongside The Dante Club.... but I'm not sure what.
  8. Yeah I know! That's what's so great about The Book Of Lost Things! It takes warped fairytales to a whole new level of grotesque! I've always been fond of the more adult original versions
  9. Yes, it explores several fairytales, and they're all very, very dark interpretations. It also includes information about the original tales at the end. It's quite a heavy book, it's graphic and it's pyschological, and it's definately not a children's book.
  10. Wahey! That's quite the popular book on here, I look forward to hearing your thoughts!
  11. Still reading The Dante Club by Matthew Pearl. Only 56 pages in. It's still not quite grabbing my attention. There's so many names, and half the time he seems to forget to mention who is actually in any given scene before said people start going things, so it's easy to get completely confused. Or maybe it's just delirium from my flu.
  12. Listening to a lot of Westlife at the moment in anticipation of their new album after a year's hiatus
  13. I've never read the sequels, I must admit I know next to nothing about them.
  14. Oh it's brilliant Giulia. I love any book with a dab of physics, no matter how makey-uppy it is. Plus, mine had a cover with this awesome centaur with wings for arms on it.
  15. Yeah I saw it in my room at my parent's house over the weekend. Should have brought it back home with me really.
  16. A Wrinkle In Time was a great book, I must read it again.
  17. I grew up with The Dark Is Rising. Personally I didn't like them as a kid, but wanted to, so I'm re-reading them now - I flew through the first book, and am struggling with the rest as the latter books take a massive turn for the fantasy side of things and the first is pure adventure. I wrote a review here of the first book if you want to read it. I'm about 4 books behind in my personal reviews so it's actually the most recent one.
  18. Inkheart, Coldfire, His Dark Materials, Lord Of The Rings, The Dark Is Rising, Oscar Wilde Mysteries....
  19. Read Oscar Wilde. Short stories (I love The Canterville Ghost), plays (I love The Importance Of Being Earnest), and his only novel, The Picture Of Dorian Gray. If you don't love him, your soul is about as reedeemable as Dorian's.
  20. I'm dubbing this my Halloween Read. At Halloween I usually read a scary book and watch scary movies while eating Malloween Delights
  21. I've started The Dante Club and my mojo is like 'wuh? Is it time to wake up?' as I haven't read in a week. I'll probably be slow enough while I'm sick, but so far it's intriguing if not disgusting
  22. Right now it's all Brent Spiner, Mika and Tim Minchin. Also going to get Westlife's new album, and I suspect Jack L's 'best of' album will respark my interest in him.
  23. I'd feel better if it went to someone's kid! Whoops, the link has disappeared onto the previous page. I'm going to delete it there and bring it onto this page for maximum exposure. If no one takes it in a few days though, I am going to take it as I absolutely loved it as a kid (one of the first books I bought at my primary school book fair!) but I lost it *** *BUMP* Just to let you all know in case you didn't notice: Inver is very kindly giving away a free copy of "The Butterfly Lion" to a good home. So, if anyone has any kids that might want it, just pop over to this thread and let her know. I'm only posting this here because no one else besides me has asked for the book, and I'm not exactly a kid. So go go go!
  24. I was the one planning it, and I told you to take it over as you'd be doing me a favour. Not Janet, not Michelle, and there's no thunder involved. I should have informed the other Mods I simply don't have time to do this and Janet would not have posted (and subsequently been ignored) on my behalf, so I've apologised to her and the other Mods, and I apologise also for any confusion or ill feelings perceived as a result of my inattention. However, Janet and Michelle were just trying to be fair to me and to draw attention to the technical side of arranging such a big event. No hard feelings were actually intended from anyone on our side, and more were in actuality created by the above unnecessary post by you. Let this be the end of it, and if anyone wants to take on running this, feel free.
