  1. Recieved The Butterfly Lion by Michael Morpurgo in the post today from Inver - going to give it a read as soon as I finish my current Kate Mosse book.
  2. Read about 100 pages of The Winter Ghosts last night, nothing major has happened yet so I don't know if it's GOOD but I'm enjoying it all the same.
  3. Apologies, Inver! I never remember who is where, beyond 'UK' But it's the same from all UK countries - even Northern Ireland!!

I am whizzing through books - they're all short light reads, but I'm really enjoying them. And I saw your note about Light On Snow in the book activity thread too - I had seen you and other people mentioning it, which is why I picked it up :D It was only €1.50 in the charity shop.

  4. Nope! Usually takes a week for things to arrive from England. I'll be sure to let you know as soon as it does arrive. .x

  5. I felt so guilty! The guy behind the counter was like, 'it's a stunning edition isn't it?' and I said, 'Yup, and I shouldn't be buying it because I have the book but it's too pretty to resist!' I needed a new hardback reading copy anyway, my Norton isn't something I'd want to heft around with me, my 1925 is partically in a glass case and my leatherbound one stays in it's box.
  6. In Waterstones I got: The Winter Ghosts - Kate Mosse The Picture Of Dorian Gray - this edition (I couldn't resist, it was all on it's lonesome and it's gorgeous!) In the I.C.S. charity shop I got: Light On Snow - Anita Shreve Miss Smilla's Feeling For Snow - Peter Hoeg I is a happee bunnee
  7. I want to know what you think too Peace! *waves*
  8. Anything I can find in the charity shop! I read Girl With A Pearl Earring the other day but it's all I've read by her, and I'm sure I've seen more by her in the shop where I got Girl.
  9. Thank you Tomorrow I'll be buying some Kate Mosse and Tracy Chevalier, with any luck.
  10. Finished The Garden Of UnEarthly Delights, reading 196 pages today. That's the third book I've finished in six days, two days per book!
  11. "Rock N' Roll," said Maxwell Karrien, opening the official looking envelope. - The Garden Of UnEarthly Delights; Robert Rankin.
  12. Reading another few chapters of The Garden Of UnEarthly Delights
  13. I have 47 unread books out of the 107 I have here in Cork (which doesn't include about 10 Philosophy books, my old book collection and anything at my parents house, which could number 10-20 (all read). There's also my Buffy books, I have about 10 of those but they're mostly read too. Can't be bothered going to count as they're out in the living room.
  14. I definately think the film took a better spin on it than the book, the book was obviously more drawn out by virtue of being a book, so it was easier for it to ramble. But yeah, both were immensely enjoyable (I may well not have bothered with the movie if not for Colin - gosh long hair is gorgeous on him! and I can't wait to read more by that author.
  15. It was, but I'm still unsure about the two things (book and movie) because neither seemed to be sure of where it was going and in the end went in different directions. In the movie, But in the book, And the rest of the time, But other than that, I actually loved reading the book and watching the movie, even if by the end of both I was kind of going 'huh?'
  16. Not sure what I'll have today. Since I'm going to town tomorrow, and the shop today just because I have no food left, I imagine it'll only be a sandwich or a pizza or something.
  17. Started Robert Rankin's The Garden Of UnEarthly Delights last night, read 122 pages. Probably going to try to finish it today/tomorrow morning as I'll be starting a new book tomorrow.
  18. It's infinately superior to Matheson's book. It takes his facts, which are (granted) heavily researched and plonked before the reader, and makes a story out of it.
  19. I'm about to watch Girl With A Pearl Earring. ColinFirthColinFirthColinFirth.
  20. I'd seen her other books, but never picked them up. I only grabbed this one because I knew the name. I can't wait to get more of her books - I think Falling Angels was the one I saw a few copies of in the charity shop. (That charity shop is amazing, everything is
  21. New Moon is out soonish, isn't it? I'll have to start saving my pennies. Can't wait to see it.
  22. I finished Girl With A Pearl Earring this morning. Thought it got a little unsteady towards the end, it seemed to keep changing it's direction, but overall a very very good book.
  23. I decided to leave The Dante Club for now, as it's not getting my full attention and I'd rather give it a proper go another time when my mojo is at full functionality, rather than spoiling the book now. Instead, I completely randomly decided to read Girl With A Pearl Earring, and I only meant to read 20 or so pages to see what I thought, but I'm already 212 pages in and loving it. I adore Chevalier's writing style. I've seen her other books in the charity shop where I got this one - I'll be buying them all a.s.a.p. Only50 pages to go, but it's 7am
  24. Yeahh a mate showed me that trailer. Looks pretty neat!
  25. Hehe it's a shame you can't get them soon, I'm going reading them this Christmas. I've only read the first one, and the guy who told me about them said it's not the best of the three. Actually back on topic with this - the reason I had such a struggle with choosing which Coldfire set I originally wanted is because there's a range from gaudy-90's-sci-fi through to modern Garth Nix style covers. With regard to old books or modern reprints, if I get a reprint, I want one that stays true to the character of the original book if possible, like actually retaining any of the original artwork.
