  1. True, Jake's aversion to the Cullens is intense and I did think long and hard about that particular point as a result. This is the conclusion I came to: Vampires are evil by default - good vampires are the exception to the rule. Werewolves (or at least, these specific shape-shifters as they're not real werewolves) are good by default - they originated as a response to hostility and attacks by vampires. They are self-proclaimed protectors of humans. SO, Jake's blood, as the (super)natural response to the bad blood of demons kinda gives him the right to hate the Cullens. Or at least, to be slower to trust them. The Cullens should actually realise that the werewolves are protectors - I don't know if that applies to all werewolves, but, the Cullens (or Edward at least) admit to knowing the Quileutes are actually shape-shifters, designed to protect. Either way, the Cullens should be proving themselves to the Quileutes, whether they like it or not. Not insulting Jake and in Ed's case practically banning her from seeing Jake when the safest place for her is at La Push. So I'm with Jake on that one too Oh and r.e. the suicide thing: being a vampire is no excuse. If he were human, he'd be put in therapy. None of the others are THAT protective of Bella; (his obsession is largely based on her being a clumsy human). It's not normal. I don't find it at all attractive. I like that Jake allows her to make her own mistakes, but minds her without her ever knowing (when she thought he was ignoring her, he was actually wolfing round her house, and then he takes up double shifts without a word to anyone in Eclipse - Edward would rather lock her in a house.)
  2. Yeahhh I love him too I'd love to buy a collection of his movies - as many in colour as possible! I have It's A Wonderful Life in colour and I love it.
  3. I love Christmas beer ads. Somehow, people in the alcohol industry always seem to make much nicer Christmas adverts than anybody else! I love the Budweiser and Guiness ones - though I don't know if you guys would get those over there? The Budweiser one maybe, with the horses, but the Guiness one is an Irish advert.
  4. I'm terrible lately for having turkey and cranberry sauce sandwiches (with stuffing, lettuce, bacon etc) for dinner. A sandwich isn't really dinner, but they're so yummy that I keep eating them and not bothering with anything else!
  5. Shop Around The Corner is a brilliant movie! James Stewart was so dishy! It's a really lovely movie, funny and sweet in turns. I only watched it for the first time myself recently, and thoroughly enjoyed it. There are some scenes, and even some bits right down to the script that were borrowed and used in You've Got Mail which, once you've seen both makes You've Got Mail not only an excellent stand-alone film, but a wonderful, respectful tribute to a classic too.
  6. When I was at the cinema yesterday I saw the trailer for The Lovely Bones, and though I've been told the movie is completely different, I was intrigued enough that I plan on buying the book today or tomorrow. Still reading Eclipse - I keep getting distracted by things, so I'm only reading little pieces at a time. I reckon I'm probably actually going to go straight back to the start of the saga as soon as I'm finished it - and probably take notes - there's so much to take in over the four books and I pretty much suck at remembering the sequence of events in ANY book, let along a four-piece saga.
  7. He lived in almost Victorian times. In Victorian times, a girl married well if she were lucky and could sing/speak French and sew well enough, and if she were really lucky, she befriended or learned to love the person she married. Men looked for prospects and child-bearers before anything else. Edward's devotion I think is largely a vampire trait - they're (vampires) all the same. And devotion is not a bad thing, but the way he goes on and on and on is just irritating. I don't see Jake as being spoilt at all, even when I didn't like him I didn't see that. Pushy, maybe. But considering he's got the man vs. monster thing, and the one girl he cares about is batting for the other monster-team, I think he's got every right to kick up a fuss. Especially when Edward acts the way he does. Like going on about envying Romeo his suicide - who talks about that kind of thing? This is BEFORE Jasper, and he's still like, 'I want to be able to kill myself in case anything happens to you.' Excuse me? If someone said that to me, I'd worry about their mental health and probably slowly back off from them. At least Jake never abandoned Bella. He told her to go away, and less than a week later came back and apologised, begging her to work it out so she could be part of his world - and surprise surprise that was for the best. What did Edward do when things got a bit tough? Abandon her. BTW, I love both Eddie and Jacob in different ways, but I'm a new addition to Team Jacob and I have a lot of anti-Eddie steam built up I also think about this too much and need a job
  8. Edward is totally emo. And so melodramatic. 'That's not a solution, that's a tragedy'; oh get over it Edward. The way he talks is so annoying. 'You already do protect me; you're my only reason for being...alive...if that's what I am', /melodrama. Man if that guy spoke like that to me, and was 109, I'd be like, 'dude, you've lived over a century, look at Carlisle, look at Alice, look at Emmett, they're totally cool with their lot, GET OVER IT.' Jacob can be cringeworthy at times, but mostly it's just like 'I like you. You like me. Where's the problem? Oh yeah, you like emos.'
  9. Edward? Mature?Edward is a whiny emo! The boy is so self-indulgent and childish it's sickening! Jacob is mature - he deals with his issues in a couple of weeks and moves on to minding Bella! Private viewing for the win though. So many people kept talking and laughing through today's showing that I couldn't concentrate on the movie
  10. Jacob rules. Don't fight it Charm.
  11. Having gotten this movie's soundtrack, it's actually much more distinctive than I gave it credit for the first time I watched the movie - I've listened to it a few times now so I'm hoping to do what Peacefield did and identify the placement of various songs. For instance! I know I loved the song that played during the ever-so-sweet montage of hanging out Bella and Jake did when working on the bikes, but I can't remember which song it was. Also, some of the songs have a not-so-subtle relevance, so it'll be interesting to note placements because of that too. The movie is showing all this week and all next week at LEAST, so I'm going today again and might go again next week.
  12. Hmm, this is a good topic! I think my surprise book of the year was probably actually Dracula - I'd tried to read it so many times and disliked it that I was amazed at thoroughly enjoying it this time.
  13. Eep Sorry, I get quite passionate about books that really strike a chord with me
  14. I'm still reading Eclipse but I'm stopping at the end of virtually every chapter to debate (with myself ) about who is right and wrong among the vamps and wolves. They're both right AND wrong about various things and I can't weigh it up enough to know who is closest to doing right by Bella. Grrr. Stephanie Meyer should not be making me think. Isn't that like a contradiction, or oxymoron or something?
  15. Whatever about Stew not winning it 'anyway', he doesn't DESERVE to win. Gino or Justin FTW (for the win), quite literally.
  16. Awesome! I'm delighted to hear it Chesil - and I really hope you enjoy it! I can't wait to hear your thoughts
  17. I love Gino and Justin - I loved Colin too and was gutted when they were split up. I hate Kim, I'm glad Joe is gone, and as for Stewart and Sabrina - did anyone hear them last night talking all about now knowing what they want from life and what's important, and then saying 'kids, a beautiful car and a beautiful house'. Stew said that and Sabrina agreed. Kids, grand. But specifying cars and houses over things like happiness, health, or at worst, financial security (without being loaded)? Materialistic much? I hope they both go a.s.a.p.
  18. I thought his hair was awesome lol, messy and bleached looking. I thought he looked a bit crazy, actually, which I like. If he got more screentime I bet Jackson could make the character genuinely unsettling to watch. That's terrible. I hated Jake for the longest time, (I decided that before I read the books and didn't give him a chance) and thought I would hate this movie as a result, but it was the movie that changed my mind, and now having re-read New Moon I'm completely on Jake's side - Edward is a big pansy who can't deal with a little hardship even though the solution is OBVIOUS and ends up happening ANYWAY so about two and a bit books were a waste of time. Jake on the other hand is in very real danger of hurting her because he is her natural enemy. Course, due to Ed being a pansy, it takes a while for the enemy bit to become literal, but it is in her nature from the beginning. He actually has something to deal with and overcome, which is more than Ed has really. Plus, everyone seems to forget that while Ed is 110 and Bella acts about 30, Jake IS only 16. For a 16 year old typical male who is dealing with being a monster, I don't think he acts all that spoilt. I can actually completely relate to him,and in no way to Bella or Edward.
  19. Also, whatever about R. Patt - So there you go.
  20. Wow I hope that doesn't happen. For one, if it doesn't have the entire original cast, it's not Twilight. For another, the story has four books. It's done. It's dusted. Until Steph writes more the story is complete. I hate spin-offs from completed entities.
  21. I hated Breaking Dawn too, marginally more than New Moon. But it has a whole Jacob section, and I love him now so who knows!
  22. Finished New Moon and this time enjoyed every page, if not the Edward pages less than the Jacob ones. Considering I hated it the first time through due to all the Jacob, the next two should seem considerably improved now. I worry about myself.
  23. Okay. I tried, I really did. The Twilight books I've been reading since I discovered them last year were 'borrowed' copies. I've never bought them, but since I saw New Moon and started re-reading it's counterpart, I wrestled with the morality of spending good money on my own set of 'novels', if you could call them that. Saw all four books in a local HARDWARE shop today, (no I don't get it either), the Twilight edition with red-tipped pages and the first three books only
  24. I haaaaaaaaaaaaaaave to see this movie again or I'll cry
