  1. OMG I love Taylor! He's an absolute legend - thank you so much for that link!! 'If those abs are real then the guy who played Jacob deserves an Oscar.' LMAO!! GIVE HIM AN OSCAR!!!
  2. Tee hee, thank you
  3. No it was just Hugh Grant's little speech during the opening credits about love being all around!
  4. I am exactly 2:06 minutes into Love Actually, which I've never seen, and I'm in tears.
  5. That is truly awesome
  6. I saw a beautiful illustrated edition of Poe's The Raven on ebay once, but it sold for around $60 so I couldn't afford it. I'd love to have a book from the 1800's. I almost wouldn't care what it is.
  7. 1886? Wow, how much did you pay for that?? I have 5 old books, there's a thread about them on here somewhere. I have Oscar Wilde's Importance Of Being Earnest (1920) and Picture Of Dorian Gray (1925), Alexandre Dumas' Count Of Monte Cristo and Stevenson's Kidnapped, both sometime in the 1940's and the second run of the original Pooh Bear book, from the 1960's. I got all mine on ebay too I just happened to start looking through them one day on ebay and decided to buy some. Oscar's in particular go cheap because he's not as well know in America as say, England. I only look for pretty editions in good shape. They don't have to be perfect, they don't have to be first or second editions, just pretty, maybe unusual, and more than anything, old. It's the history and age that I like more than anything
  8. Read another 110 pages of The Last Dickens and still loving it - I'm so glad I decided to buy it considering I gave up on The Dante Club. Now that I'm familiar with and enjoying Pearl's writing style, I'm sure I'll have no problem getting into The Dante Club. It just caught me when my mojo wasn't at it's best.
  9. In general, no. But Katrina is looking to increase the variety of genres covered by black authors in the bookshop where she works, as her manager insists on keeping them seperate from books by white authors, and the only books the shop has by black authors are virtually all perverse in nature. That's why she wants help finding suggestions, to increase stock diversity.
  10. Oh no, it's your first Stephen King book? It's the only one I've ever given up on! You should try Salem's Lot as well even if you end up not liking Gerald's Game - it's an excellent traditional vampire story set about 40 years ago I think - so very modern compared to the likes of Anne Rice and Bram Stoker's settings!
  11. Oh, let me know what you think of that one, I had to give up on it but have wondered since if I should have stuck with it!
  12. I don't know any personally, but I had a look on Wiki and found firstly Octavia Butler who I know you are aware of - the other name who jumped out was Samuel R. Delany, have you heard of him? He writes in many genres including Sci-Fi and seems to have won quite a few awards. I also just discovered Nalo Hopkinson. LeVar Burton, the guy who played Geordi LaForge in Star Trek: The Next Generation wrote a sci-fi book which might make for interesting reading considering his involvement with the genre on TV! It's called 'Aftermath.' And lastly, Walter Mosely doesn't specialise in Sci-Fi, but he does write in a variety of genres and has three Sci-Fi novels. I hope this helps!
  13. Can I tentatively ask that this thread, being (appropriately, given the original question) placed in the 'Looking For A Book' section, now stay exclusively on topic? The reason behind the original question has been explained and no more discussion on such matters is really appropriate in this forum. To be honest, it's just that some of the posts in this thread are more suited to a Mature Discussion Forum thread, it's a little tense in here. Thanks guys
  14. I have now read 55 out of the 112 I have here. So my TBR is actually going down! Slowly, but it is. 8 books read to the 5 I've bought.
  15. I hate the name Rosalie - in a place I used to work the boss's wife was called Rosalie and she was the most pernickety, nosy, critical person alive
  16. Jacob is rapidly making it's way onto my baby name list
  17. Oh there's no rush at all with it! Don't worry about that. I just get excited easily.
  18. Eee I can't wait to get my bookmark! I won't be able to read anything I'll be too busy gazing at my bookmark!
  19. I agree completely Chesilbeach - I liked Edward more in the books and Rob Patz as him has turned me off him totally - conversely Taylor has made me love Jacob. I also agree that Midnight Sun did wonders for Bella and Edward, but I still dislike them both.
  20. I wouldn't bother with the blanket if I had Jake wrapped round me
  21. All I ask is a shirtless Jacob. I'm already saving my pennies.
  22. Working in groups with people who cannot take responsibility for their own sections.
  23. Chris is totally right in what he says, it's one thing to arrest someone who is found with the whole film on video, or a hidden camera that has recorded the movie up to the point where it's discovered, and a girl with a couple of minutes of it. It does set a bad example to punish her JUST because she got caught, when she only got caught because she wasn't actually doing anything.
  24. Well good for him! He's a sound sort of fellow alright.
  25. Two of my favourites! Enjoy!
