  1. I have just finished reading A Room with A View. Again, as this is quite a popular book, i won't do a full review. I will just say what i particularly liked about the book. I have to say i really enjoyed this one. I liked all of the many colourful characters. The story was delicate and sweet. The plot was quite slow moving in places, but i felt it only added to the picture of a group of people leisurely touring Italy. It captured the atmosphere of a beauifull country. It's slow pace also mirrored Lucy's growing into maturity. If it had gone a faster pace i think it would have lost all that, and become just another mushy, wishy washy mush story. Rather than the deep feeling love story that it is. It isn't just a love story. To me it was a lot more about life and passion (in which admitedly romantic love features), and how we should be true to our feelings. In the book it talked a lot about being 'muddled'. About lies and decieving yourself, and about truth. I think it's wonderful how the lifestyle in Italy contrasts to the English of the day, who to often, put social airs and decorame, before true feeling and real life. The Heroine, Lucy, goes on a journey to learn this. She almost manages to lie to herself and convince herself, she feels nothing for the Hero. But a lovely and sometimes brutaly honest man (and interestingly, more 'prim and proper' members of the party critisize him for this honesty of feeling) helps her to wakes up to herself. The book mentions at this point that 'she saw to the bottom of her soul', and was no longer able to decieve herself. Clever, brilliant, funny. In fact the more i think about this book, the more i love it. 9/10
  2. We'd get on well then. I drive people crazy with my constant use of commas.
  3. Since at the moment all i'm doing is editing posts at the moment, i thought it would be a good idea to send this to keep it's place on the board.
  4. This is not the best thread to be on at this time of night. It's making me want to eat, eat, eat!
  5. I found out of all the Jane Auten books, emma was the most difficult. I think to a large degree, the main character is meant to be quite idle because thats why she has nothing better to do than matchmake. For a book that has some action in it, Charles Dickens is really good. And i found the goings on in Far From The Madding Crowd good for that too.
  6. I am going to make a chick pea and veggie bake with garlic bread and feta cheese.
  7. I don't think i have ever been bothered by the name of an author. If they have a really obscure name then i may forget what to look for when i go out book shopping. But i usually take a notepad and pen with everything written in, everywhere i go.
  8. Chicken Korma with a peshwari naan, pilau rice and chips! Or Aromatic crispy duck pancakes with hoi sin sauce, spring onoin and cucumber sticks.
  9. Ok here we go... They Might Be Giants Jewel Kilcher Barclay James Harvest Yes Ozric Tentacles Clannad Men from Earth Dream Theatre Rodrigo Y Gabriela Macalmans Runrig........ etc. If any of you guys look these up be prepared: this list is eclectic and varied. Lets just say i'm a massive fan of music, not just a type of music. And i love to find bands out there that are just clever and fun, not just crowd pleasing. Although i do love the crowd pleasing type as well.
  10. I'm sorry about that for you Chrissi. Sometimes the worst thing is a deadline. And if your not feeling like you can cope or do it, it doesn't matter that the deadline is there. In fact for me, it makes it worse. I tend to bury my head a lot. It's my way of coping. But then i'm really fed up with myself when i let someone, or myself down.
  11. I will hopefully read this some day. I have always meant to read it for as long as i can remember, but for some reason it just hasn't happened. I love the animation adaptation of the story. And i love the song Bright Eyes.
  12. Sorry i have only just seen this Thread and realised i haven't said my hellos yet. I've seen some of your posts around here. Glad you've joined us.
  13. Hello and:17: to the forum.
  14. Recently me and my Husband, ben, have started going to the park and having a picnic and then afterwards reading. When it's sunny we put the blankets and cushions on the grass. When it's wet we sit inside our van (which is a big transit), with the doors open, on the blankets and cushions and read there. I have to say it is becoming one of my favourite places to read a book. It's so cozy and i love the fresh air and scenery.
  15. I have recently read Louis Caroll books for the second time.
  16. I have amended my post and i have only read 1 more on the list since i sent it! I do have some others on my TBR list and shelves though.
  17. I just couldn't get into this book when i read it, so i didn't finish it. Maybe it just wasn't the right time, coz looking at it again it seems like the sort of book i should and would enjoy.
