  2. I have just bought this book. I might give it a miss then as i love the James Herriot stories and would hate to lose that. For some reason it doesn't appeal to me as much as it did when i bought it anyway. I have just got hold of a Roald Dahl biography from the liabary. Not started it yet. But i am looking forward to it. I am wondering if i should reaqaint myself with some of his work first though. I'd love to read Fantastic Mr Fox and Georges Marvelllous medicine again.

  9. "I opened my eyes. The room was fuzzy abd the bright overhead lights were surrounded by blurred haloes. Something hard and uncomfortable was aroung my neck, digging into me." Endal - Allen and Sandra Parton.
  10. I have just bought myself some magnetic bookmarks with pics and quotes from Winnie the Pooh. I love buying stuff like that. I think if it wasn't for the fact that i want my money to buy the books on my list i'd buy a bookmark everytime i entered a book store!
  11. My fav reading place at the moment is in bed. I seem to only have the time at night, just before sleep.
  12. It makes a difference if the book is one of my favorites. I like the idea of having special additions or book that look good on display.
  13. The Client - John Grisham IBSN: 009950801 X Pages: 458 The Law, the Mob, a murder - and the mind of an eleven-year-old child.... An eleven year old has discovered a secret that not even an adult should know. A US State Senator is dead, and Mark Sway is the only one whos knows where the body is hidden. The FBI want him to tell them where it is, at whatever cost to Mark and his family. The killer wants him silenced forever. Only one woman lawyer cansave them from these twin threats. Together with Mark she must take on the might of the State and the wiles of a cold-blooded killer. This book has much to recommend it. Gripping, clever, and plenty of varied characters each with their own unique backgrounds and stories that add to the feel and dynamics of the whole book. All of them are well balanced and add to the story, not distracting from it in any way, even though there are a lot of characters. I felt the plot was very realistic, without being to dark and sinister when it dealt with the Mob. Mark Sway is a truely exeptional boy, who is written as a streetwise 11 year old. One that has been through a lot already and in someways had to act as guardian and protecter to his family. But now he needs protection. And this is where Reggie comes in. The two of them carry the story brilliantly. At times you really admire Mark when he seems able to do it all alone, and other times you feel sorry for him, and he becomes the 11 year old child again. All of this came accross, and i felt it. This story is clever, comical in places, and very satisfying. A very good book written by a brilliant writer. 9/10
  14. I really enjoyed this book, but at times i did find it exhasting to follow. For a couple of chapters i just seemed the writing was a little stressed (if that word makes any sense.). But i felt this was in keeping with what the author was trying to get across.
  15. With certain books, i may feel the need to go back and re-read things. For example, in The Time Travellers Wife i found myself going back to refer to past travels. And sometimes i actually re-read the chapter.
  16. I really feel like some Sushi. I love it!

Thanks Mac. I'm loving Douglas Adams. He is so funny. I'm thinking, that after i've finished reading his work, i'm going to try to get hold of a copy of the radio and tv series. I honestly can't remeber laughing so much at any other book.

My abstainense from alcofrol ('hic') isn't going according to plan! I'm not going mad or anything. It's just people keep drinking beer and read wine around me and i always want a glass!

    Hope your well.

  24. I forgot about the song. Good point. And now i have the song in my head. "hey nonny, nonny.."
  25. I agree that this adaptation doesn't really address Claudio's ridiculous jealousy, and his general immature behaviour. He is very unstable. Although i feel that when Hero marrys him in the end, and once again gives him her heart, that it is a testament to her unswerving charater and her loyalty, not only to her father but to Claudio. She literally becomes 'the hero'. However there was a modern version of the story (if i remember correctly Billie Piper played Hero) and in it she decides not to marry him in the end. Which i think is also a good ending. I do like the film adaptation, because the ending fitted the time they lived in. And i feel that Claudio's interchangableness is addressed and he learns a lesson of humility. He learns the hard way that he had, from the start, a problem he needed to address (like when he became jealous of the Prince, thinking he had asked Hero's hand for himself). He humiliates her, and in turn he humiliates himself!
