  1. You did it! Well done. Regarding your enjoyment of it - I hesitate to ask.......
  2. If I'm reading in bed and lying down, then I read in landscape mode, but the rest of the time I have it on portrait. Not sure why I do the change about, but it suits me. The font size I change depending on how tired my eyes are, although I have just been prescribed reading glasses so that should end the font shuffle.
  3. Congratulations Ischa on passing your driving test! The last text I received read Yes!#! It was in response to a test text that was confirming my 'phone was sending and receiving texts properly.
  4. I was walking passed one of my bookshelves the other day and happened upon a tree copy of Jasper Fforde's The Eyre Affair and started reading, It has been a such a long time since I spent time with Thursday Next, and I am delighted. I think a series read is afoot!
  5. What nice feedback to receive from the lady. A booky and doggy lady too!
  6. I'm so pleased that you are enjoying it! I'll keep my fingers crossed that your enjoyment continues.
  7. The Last Battle is a surprise in many ways isn't it? Your reading and reviewing of the series is triggering a re-read urge in me! I cannot wait to read The Shepherd's Crown! The series really grabbed me from the off. As you say Brilliantly put! It is a series that I desperately wish had been around when I was young, because Tiffany Aching is such a fab role model. I have learned so much from her even at my advanced age.
  8. I think the book does have a turning point for some readers, and mine was around the 100-150 page mark. Until then it was a real mind boggling slog. I do recall that a few others in the group just loathed the book quite passionately, with a couple never (don't tell my tutor) finishing it. The cd is my 'gardening all day' book of choice - I am currently 9 cds back in.
  9. I have the cd of Midnight's Children, beautifully and magically narrated by the wonderful late Lyndam Gregory. If you ever want to give it another try Janet I am more than happy to send it out to you. A module for my degree was on post colonial literature and this was a required read, but although it was super tough to get into it, by 100 - 150 pages I was hooked. It's a definite 100% 'marmite' book.
  10. Despite only being back from holiday only two weeks ( ) I am off to Stuttgart in Germany on Monday. Husband has two days of work meetings (and two evenings of work socialising), so I am going with him and spending my two days taking a mini solo break, while my evenings will be spent with a book or two. I am so looking forward to it.
  11. Oh, that does look intriguing.
  12. Good luck at the dentist Chalie, and with the Open Evening.
  13. I had the first two, but have now toddled along and got the others. Thanks Raven.
  14. I have had to stop myself from examining it too closely now, as I have too much to do. This Sunday however, I will be thoroughly going over it. I love maps.
  15. That may not be cute or funny woolf woolf, but that is great! Thanks for sharing it.
  16. Have fun in Brussels Nollaig. That is a big move Woolf Woolf, exciting too. Good luck sorting out all the arrangements.
  17. I'm arriving late to the news. Congratulations on the flat - that is wonderful.
  18. We got home from holiday just before midnight on Friday. We had a lovely time driving down to Northern Italy, taking in (briefly) lots of places en route. We are pretty tired still, and the stinky cold that husband developed on holiday has been passed on to me, so I am a sniffling, coughing mumbling mess who keeps losing her voice! Husband is much better though, which is great. Back to normal tomorrow for us both, but we have a new (to us) car to collect next weekend which is something to look forward to. I have a hot pot / casserole on a slow cook in the oven, we have fresh made bread, and it's husband's 'turn' to make a cuppa. Not a bad way to spend a Sunday.
  19. I look forward to watching that, so thanks Kylie. I'm 'enjoying' a challenging week, so my sitting down and watching this will be the perfect way to relax. Excellent timing!
  20. It was a wet old day, but it cleared up a bit just as husband and I decided to go out for a long walk in a local National Trust park. 'Twas a lovely walk along soggy paths and under drippy trees, watching ducks on the lake and little ones splashing in puddles.
  21. Have just finished watching the Edinburgh Tattoo, which was brilliant. Am now watching and attempting to understand the questions on University Challenge.
  22. Purple / blue linen shirt (heavily crumpled now), dark blue trousers and a pair of navy crocs. I know many loathe crocs with a passion, but I find them incredibly comfortable.
