  1. I'm tempted to see what combination of answers would make one a Riddle, if that is possible........maybe if I have some spare time later.......................
  2. A Jeffrey Deaver stand alone novel that might suit would be perhaps his Praying For Sleep. For a twisty turny "What the blazes is happening?" type read, Sebastian Fitzek, either Therapy or Splinter may be worth looking at. I will think on this a bit, it's a matter of matching the book titles with the stories I'm thinking of.
  3. Lovely colours muggle not. How did your trip go? Clean bill of health I hope. I out for lunch today, taking my elderly neighbour for fish and chips For a little old lady, she can really get through a large piece of battered fish! I always have the small version, and struggle with that. The weather has settled down after yesterday's rain so it should be a nice trip out.
  4. That looks so yummy Gaia. I hope your Dad enjoyed it.
  5. I love that whole section of the episode, from the drive to school, through to the 'leaving'the lesson. Brilliant acting by Ms Bledel.
  6. I hope you have taken a photo of that cake Gaia! Poppyshake would not forgive a cake being made and no picture of it! We enjoyed a lovely quiet evening and are just lounging about catching up with ourselves. Husband is currently playing some game or another on his laptop, so I will wander off and do some washing up soon. There's not much there, so not too chore like.
  7. Brilliant stuff Kylie. They seem to have GG on a loop over here, having just finished the final episode, followed a few days later back around at the pilot. A deer ran into the car Rory was driving in the one I managed to catch the other day.
  8. Yay to "me" days. Bananarama? That's a wonderful blast from the past, I would have enjoyed them too, no guilt at all! Husband and I have individually had a busy couple of weeks, with more on the way, so plan on doing pretty much zero that involves effort tomorrow. Today we visited my parents, taking lunch, pudding and naughty chocs (for UK Father's Day tomorrow) with us. Had an enjoyable time, but are now home and looking forward to a quiet evening together.
  9. Peacefield, I don't know about anyone else, but I've just put both those books straight onto my wishlist!
  10. Two books that I have read and really enjoyed this year, We Were Liars by E Lockhart The Guardian newspaper (UK) describes it as cool, bitter and brutal, this compelling short novel casts a dispassionate eye on the insular world of the American oligarchy You are compelled to read on as the hints and clues to what is going on and was going on are intriguing. It is beautifully written, being both descriptive and refreshing. No Good Deed By Manda Scott (From my review) Orla McLeod knows too much about violence for her own good. She knows about pain and how to inflict it, she knows about guilt and she knows about survival. Dark, gritty and tender, Orla makes a great heroine, with her passion and determination and her ability to hear the statements made in between the words being spoken. She is desperately flawed, and all the better for it. A twisty turny read that never lets you lose track. Good luck finding something that appeals.
  11. What a horrific event, and such a cowardly and racist act. How are people capable of this?
  12. Although all three look good, the one I would read first is The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress.
  13. Started with light drizzling rain and then developed into a hot day, now a warm early evening.
  14. Athena, the forum looks lovely. Great Job you and Boyfriend. :)

    1. Athena

      Athena

Thanks Chrissy, I'm glad you like it.

  15. Off the top of my head, the only ones I can think of are Patricia Highsmith's The Talented Mr Ripley, Dan Brown's Angels & Demons, and another Dan Brown style book, Galen Watson's Psalter.
  16. I hope your check up goes smoothly and you pass all checks with flying colours muggle not. We will be handing our niece's dog back tomorrow. Although we now have blonde fur EVERYWHERE in the house, we have loved having him to stay, with all the long walks, and cuddles on the sofa. He has been very good, despite a few times that he was clearly feeling homesick. We are looking forward to how happy he will be when we arrive at his house.
  17. How are you enjoying the series? I read them all in one hit, and they blended into one long story which was actually pretty fun. I was able to totally immerse myself in Morganville for a while there.
  18. You can't mention a book splurge without mentioning the book titles too! I hope the splurging helps your mojo.
  19. Warm, with a hint of rain this morning.
  20. I had only just heard about Ron Moody and Christopher Lee. R.I.P. both
  21. They are so pretty! Thank you muggle not.
  22. Does 'fitting in' really matter to you muggle not? You offer an interesting and compassionate voice to the forum, striking a wonderful balance between talking about about your life, and the books you have been reading. You are appreciated and enjoyed. Is that fitting in? If so, you do.
  23. Went for an early walk with Ben, and now I have finished some housework, he is snoozing in my husband's chair! I won't tell if the dog doesn't.
  24. I have an eye condition that requires monitoring. It's called Pigment Dispersion Syndrome . Apparently it's most common blue eyed men, but as I am always an awkward mare, being a brown eyed woman hasn't stopped me developing it. I still adore my car, but she was genuinely filthy, having been 'decorated' by the local feathered community! As regard the path clearing, the garden is mostly my job/pleasure and enables me to listen to lose myself in music and let my garden remind me of my sense of contentment. My hosta is always a victim of slugs, making it look like lace leaves by the end of summer. I try to remember that hedgehogs love slugs, so the hosta's change of look is the price I pay for hedgehogs visiting. My back is feeling better this afternoon, and Ben the golden retriever has arrived. We have enjoyed a short walk in a local field and are enjoying a quiet time before I start sorting out tonight's supper.
