  1. Still read it! As I can only remember the feeling when I finished CCM, rather than why I felt it, I may be putting you off unreasonably! ps Nic Cage - Phroar!
  2. I bought the book (small hardcover - not utterly gorgeous binding), and I read it with interest. This little book felt like the efforts of someone feeling as though she no longer has to really try. The depth of the stories was ok, akin to 'muggle' fairy tale books, but the footnotes by Dumbledore were disappointing. I felt JKR could have brought the reader real insights and intellectual stimulation with them, but didn't bother. Yes, they are worth buying as the proceeds go to charity, but perhaps buy and read in time, don't race to read!
  3. Captain Corelli's Mandolin. It has been a while since I read it but I remember thoroughly enjoying the book until the end when I felt unexpectedly violent and bitter toward Louis de Berni
  4. ^ Definitely makes you a bad person - but you are not alone with that particular response.
  5. I have never really had a method of discovery, but from reading here I do wonder whether I would benefit from a having a list of sorts. Great thread to start Susanne - I would love to know the answer to this one myself!
  6. I have made myself become more philosophical about the condition a book is returned to me. I was close to scaring myself with how irate I felt at damage, especially cup rings . Now I just give a wry smile and remind myself that the book being read and enjoyed is what's important. *deep cleansing breaths. In with love/out with hate*

    Hello

Hi Mona, I'm fairly new too! See you on the threads!
  9. Italian sausage filled tortellini, with a homemade tomato based herb sauce and homemade rolls. Just reading through a few posts here is both inspiring and mouthwatering! Yum!
  10. Yeah, he has changed jobs in recent years, and now drives rather than taking trains to work - he resents his reading time being cut! I cannot imagine a home without books, and thankfully don't have to!
  11. Astonishing the Gods - Ben Okri. Stunning book, I was transported through the read! A number of the Harry Potter books - JKR (earlier rather than later ones). Chariot Of The Gods - Erich Von Daniken As time has passed I have not been able to dedicate myself to the all-in-one read in the same way. I still have the inclination though.
  12. Thank you Bev, and may I express my appreciation for your avatar (i.e Phroarrr!) Thank you Nici, is that your cat in the pic?
  13. I wasn't going to introduce myself, but felt compelled to! Chrissy, 41, married, one child (in his 20's), two elderly cats, one elderly dog. Love reading (obviously), and have a leaning toward crime/detective/thriller 'sh books, although I never say no to a decent read of whatever genre. Books are my escape, my reassurance and my constant companions. I LOVE the vibe on this forum and feel very welcome. Thank you to all who have contacted me since my arrival - I am sincerely touched. I look forward to catching you all on the threads!
  14. Mr Jeffrey Archer - NO, NO, NO! You can't make me! Zceleb/footballers/reality tv biogs - Would only if I was made to!
  15. Back To Black by Amy Winehouse - for a friend
  16. The often used reference books are kept handily nearby in the living room, along with currently being read books. All the others are on bookshelves in our bedroom, the landing and our sitting room. My OH overheard me saying how much I'd always wanted a library, so he brought as many bookshelves into the sitting room that he could. (I knew I had good reasons for marrying him!) Until we win the lottery and I get my vast library with sliding ladders and window seats this will do nicely!
  17. I can honestly answer that I get my books wherever I can! Proper shops, charity shops, second hand bookshops, car boot sales, library.....anywhere!
  18. Sometimes I still felt that I had fetched up on the edge of the world. Losing You By 'Nicci French'
  19. 1) I love animals. 2) I love being female. 3) I love books. < that's a shocker! 4) I love walking in the countryside. 5) I love the men in my life (OH, son, dad, brother)
