The sense of 'ownership' some readers feel over books and/or characters is
astounding sometimes, although maybe that's a sign of good writing/storytelling -
if people have such a strong reaction.
And yes, where can they go from there? Another time, another thread maybe?!
Oh, Yep - big time flooring here! But it wasn't a disappointment -
just a shock!
Going to have to say - although I loved the Harry Potter series, and loved MANY parts of
Deathly Hallows, some parts did not ring true/believable enough, and I was annoyed that
Harry's closing thought was wanting a (probably) knackered Kreacher to fix him a sandwich!
Silver oak leaf for my Mum (she has a thing about Oaks!)
Silver Tree pendant for me! The etching on it is so similar to a picture I have in
my imagination I HAD to buy it!
You are a very bad person Kell!
I have bought two pendants that I completely feel in love with! Her designs
are just gorgeous. You are still a very bad person for putting a link in!
Psssst Thanks Kell!
I'm a big fan of Kathy Reichs' books, and I have seen 'Bones' a few times. I don't connect the two together, despite knowing that the tv series is supposed to bear some resemblance to Temp and co.
They have taken some components from the books and made them tv'able,
which works pretty well. There would be too much nuance lost if they attempted a straight
book to tv transfer.
I haven't read 'Devil Bones', and although I enjoyed 'Cross Bones' I think I would have preferred had it been a stand alone novel with characters separate from the Temperance series. It felt like an interuption to a flowing series.
I've been pondering the question of what kind of reading year 2008 was for me, and
finally (ta da!) can answer....
Blinking awful to actually get to read anything properly, but pretty good in terms of
getting hold of books that are now on my TBR 2009 pile!
I never have. I have raced through to the end of a book, but not jumped to it.
I have never even thought to do it......
Oh No! Is this "Harry-itis", "Last-page-itis", "Last page syndrome" catching? - Will I now try to do it too?
I think reading a book makes you a reader - not the pace at which it takes place!
I have differing speeds, depending on mood, circumstance, whether it's a first read or a re-read, the 'depth' of the book. There are so many factors. It's an interesting thing to consider though.
I read to learn, escape, comfort myself, resolve issues, be alone, be in company. I read to quench, satisfy, explore, to push, to challenge. I read to share.
I read to be alive. I live to read.
I have a pile I call my TBR (to my understanding OH), and that has 14.
I do however, have another shelved location that presently carries a few books I
just happened to accidentally on purpose purchase in the past year. There may be in
the region of perhaps *cough mutter* 17 books there. These are not the 'want them' books
that are yet to make it to my place!
My name is Christine and I'm a book-a-holic.
ps I feel so much better looking at the numbers everyone else has come up with -phew!
I love the author Carol O'Connell, and the first of her books that I bought was
Flight of The Stone Angel, from a charity shop.
The cover had a gothic style picture of an ornate grave stone, and that combined
with the blurb on the back, made me buy it....
The young stranger came to town just past twelve noon.
within an hour the idiot had been assaulted, hands bloodied and broken;
Deputy Travis suffered a massive stroke at the wheel of his patrol car;
and Babe Laurie was found murdered.
The young stranger who had preceded all of these events was sitting in a jail cell....
