  1. Just a quick question really - do you have to read these in a particular order to understand them - do they make reference to previous events in previous books or are they all completely different stories?
  2. I have got the Northern Lights on my TBR list. I promised I wouldn't watch the film until I had read the book. I have heard mixed reviews that the film is a bit pants, I am not sure people who haven't read the books are completely understanding what is going on.
  3. I had seen this advertised and made a bee line to buy it but when I saw it, I was disappointed at how thin it was so decided against it at the time.I feel robbed unless I get 300 pages for my money
  4. The Stand Stephen King would have to be quite near the top of my list, Dark Rivers of the Heart by Dean Koontz I really enjoyed too but might be a thriller more than a horror. I loved Dean Koontz's Hideaway which was the first of his books I ever read. And Dracula was fantastic
  5. I only ever read one at once, I find that I enjoy it best if I throw myself completely into a book and once I'm caught hook line and sinker, I couldn't put it down
  6. If I was to try and keep every book I ever read, I think I would be divorced - headline, husband drowns under a sea of paperbacks
  7. I went to see the film last night - it reminded me a bit of cast away. The book will definitely go on my wish list for the year. The film was very good but I didn't like the sad bit
  8. A book I have on my TBR list which probably falls under the chunky challenge category is Nelson Mandella's A long walk to freedom 751 pages. Quite looking forward to it as it is very different to my normal reading materials.
  9. I mainly get my books from charity shops or car boots, I can remember the last time I bought a book brand new. I also keep an eye on Greenmetropolis in case anything catches my fancy. I have to admit thought to be being completely ignorant when it comes to nearest library - thats my resolution for 2008, join the library and try to utilise that. I don't even know how long you can keep a book for when you get it out of the library Where do you source your reading materials from?

    Hi!

Well, just thought I would pop along and say hi having just joined the forum. I am 29 (nearly 30:smile2:) and work some funny hours at the moment while our little girl is under school age, I go out as my other half comes in etc. When I get back from work most nights, I am bright as a button and find it difficult to switch off from work and go to sleep - so I read . I have in the past, only read a certain genre of books, crime, horror, blood guts and misery. Favourte authors include: Dean Koontz, Stephen King, James Herbert, Shaun Hutson etc. I have recently made a conscious effort to broaden my reading materials. I have just finished reading back to back the complete Harry Potter so feeling at the moment, a bit emotionally drained and despondent that it is all over . Looking forward to discussing books with people and getting some good recommendations.
